229

The 229 has a one piece stainless slide -- it also looks better.

Hmmm.... Just for looks I would go with the 226 in .357sig! Can't lose either way!

226

I don't carry (live in IL) and have big hands. That pretty much keeps me in the full-size catagory.

Damn dude, you are posting like crazy! Anyways, I have both a P226 and 2022 both are in .40 S&W and .357 Sig, though I carry them in .357. I love my P226 and its one of the finest handguns on the planet, but its big. I am a CCW holder and its a little large/heavy for this purpose. In retrospect, I wish I had bought a P229 as they are smaller and have the same magazine capacity. A P229 is just more pratical than a P226. While I like the P229, I purchased the 2022 Sig Pro instead. Lighter, customizable grips and half the price of the 229, yet all the performance sealed the deal for me. I would reccomend the 2022 Sig Pro.

Since you are clearly a noob, I emplore you not to buy a .357 Sig. The increased recoil/blast will certainly cause you to develop nearly impossible to break habits.
The .357 Sig has alot of recoil/blast and requires a seasoned shooter to employ effectively. My gf shoots impressively with my Walther P99QA but couldn't hit a barn with my .357's due to the properites of the cartridge. She shoots the same guns in .40 just fine....

The width of the slide and grip on the 229 and 226 are about the same in the 357 sig caliber. The difference is in the barrel length, the 229 is slightly shorter. I think the grip is a little bit shorter also, but not much. The 229 was made for 40 cal, 357 sig and might be a little stronger. I have both and like them both. I can't tell much difference in the two as far as accuracy goes. If you are going to CCW, you probably should go with the 229 because it is a little shorter barrel.
ETA........ i agree with RTW above, if you are a noob to handguns, go with a 9mm. You can get a 229 in 9mm and it is slimmer and lighter and the recoil shouldn't cause you any bad habits. You really aren't giving up much by going with the 9mm and the right ammo.
