Started videoing my double Alfa primer pro in action to come up with repairs to make it work.

1 problem I’m having is primers hanging up where the molding process left circles so I sanded those smooth and now those work.

My next problem is where the primers are suppose to got to the outer rim and ride up to the Shute.

They seem to not be able to cross over the arrow to the outer rim , I’ll polish those and see what happens.

Next is the tilt of the Shute.  If you tilt the machine back a little they go down fine .

It seems to me this thing still has bugs to work out.  They say they run 500 primer in each machine before it ships but I’m calling BS on that or this
One would have never left.

After my gempro 250 died last night, I pulled out an old lee balance scale that I have had for years. Fiddled with it for a while till I got it working ok. It is slow, and tedious work. I would hate to do a load work up or precision loads with a balance scale.

I ordered an FX120i scale...

Loaded another 250 9mm.  This finishes off my stock of 115gr FMJ projectiles.

Checked the porch when packages arrived, snd my .380 Starline brass backorder arrived, plus my PPU 7.62x39 soft points.

Went shooting with the Boy Scouts today and unloaded about 80 rounds of .223, then 50 rounds of 12 gauge on the trap field.

Got home, sorted the brass (ended up with about 50 extra pieces of .223 brass and about 100 9mm . Threw the .223 into the tumbler.

Also opened two boxes that came in the mail - 500 pieces of .45 ACP brass from the EE, and 100 pieces of .270 brass from Bison.

Tested lead hardness on 4 ingots that my buddy sent over. He gave me the ingots as a thank you. He also found me 500 Federal 209 primers from a contact of his.

Good day in the shooting/reloading world!

Oops.  Disregard.  I had some "issues" with my WiFi, but it's fixed...  Basically staying "in range" is a good thing.

I wound up with a scratched sizing die...    No idea how that happened, since I was sizing very, very clean brass.  So I contacted Hornady and we'll see how that goes.

Since I wasn't going to size any more brass, I tumbled the lube off of the 200 or so .223 cases I'd already sized.  And I deprimed another 100 or so once fired range cases - also .223/5.56 - to get a wet tumbler load ready.  I'll probably run that tomorrow.

Hours and hours wasted on this DA primer pro.

It’s not going to work well with Winchester primers or cci41 primers.

It does work well with all other cci small primers.

You have to pour 200 primers to get the 100 you want.  You can’t pour 100 and expect it to work , doesn’t matter the primer you use.

Back it goes for a refund.

Did some loads of 150gr hotcor bullets over H335 in 7.62x39.

Switched over to loading some 75gr PCC bullets over unique in the same cartridge. Makes for a fun soft shooting load.

Some friends came over and we made brass. Lots of it.

Tried the dueling tree with the single shot AK loads using the 75gr boolits. Worked good. So, we needed a contender.

Tagged in the 458 socom. 285gr PCC boolits over 8gr of unique makes for a soft load that also requires single shot action. Loaded up a few dozen of those.

Then, we proceeded to make more brass. Duels were had, training was done. Now, I have a lot more reloading to do. I am almost completely out of 9mm.

  • sorted more .223 by once/non once fired, I have too much brass and only way to get rid of the excess is to sell off the once fired but it has to be separated first
  • sorted a piddly amount of 9mm by head stamp
  • tidied up the reloading room a bit, it always needs tidying up
  • put a 380 ACP case I found while sorting the wet tumbled 9mm brass in to the storage tub for 380 brass

Found some .430 projectiles at a small LGS. Speer Deep Curl and a box of 265 gr FTX. I’ll try to work up a load for .44 Mag with the FTX.

Powder, seated about 25 44 Mag. Fiddled with crimping some of the 44 Mag loads.

You know the FTX generally require brass to be shorter than standard due to length - that's why hornady FTX ammo has non-standard length brass.  If you have spl brass you can use that and spl load data and it'll work in your 44 rifles, but may not work in a gun chambered for 44spl.

I have tons of powder, medium quantities of primers, and not enough bullets.  So I got a 45colt mold from midway and it came in yesterday.  Made almost 200 of them and almost 200 357.  Coating is mixed clear and clear/red because I'm almost out of powder.  First batch more than paid for the lee mold and sizing die.

Loaded up another small batch of my 175gr SMK 308 loads them switched the 550 over to 44 mag/spec.  I managed to find some 44 mag brass from eons ago at my parents place.  I’d decapped and wet tumbled them last week so I loaded up some test rounds using some 25 year old Herco I had laying around and Acme’s 240gr coated SWC.  I picked a load in the middle from an older Lyman book.  Went with 10.5gr of Herco with some old CCI LP Magnum primers.  Seated the bullet to the crimp groove with a light roll crimp.

Test fired the five test rounds in my Smith 629 3” round butt.  It’s got Smith finger groove combat grips on it that look awesome but don’t do much to help recoil control.  They felt like what I would call “midrange” 44 magnum.  Out of the little beast it was stout-ish.  The cylinder release did bite my thumb.....  I’ll be loading up a batch of 50 for use in my 4” 29’s and will probably use the rest of those 240’s in 44 Special loads.

I also decapped some range pickup brass from yesterday along with some more 308 brass from a friend.

The old one was as old or older than I am and I recently managed to crack a corner on it while swaging some primer pockets on my Rock Chucker.

Fortunately for me, my cousin had these old solid core doors laying around and let me take one off his hands. I was a bit skeptical at first but the intact door must have weighed 75 lbs or more.

Anyway, I cut it down and added a couple more inches of overhang to the front, then used some lag bolts to attach it to the cabinet.

8 shot (leftover fron crayola slugs ), Corona beer box wads, over Bullseye.  Shellac'ed the overshot wad.
Shot at 9 ft.  Some went through 8ins of foam board.  Happy with the pattern..I counted 2 pellets that didnt hit the target.

Gotta love the great service from these guys.

"uniforming" is the word you're looking for

Sorted another piddly amount of 9mm by head stamp, my heart's not into it much any more but almost done with it

Made big gains in sorting once vs non-once fired .223 brass

Tumbled 500 once fired .223 brass and my mind was blown, never seen such pretty cases and I've wet tumbled 9mm, 38, 357, 45, 762x39, 40, 10mm, 44mag, 45 LC

Some of them had big blotches of brown and black spots, it now looks like jewelry

Was worried I'd get a bunch of pins stuck inside the cases, didn't find any

I shipped out my scratched sizing die yesterday.

Then I tried to see if I could size my cast and coated bullets.  I’d had to re-re-re coat them because of powder coverage issues, and they wound up being really oversized.  So I’d ordered incremental sizing inserts from NOE to work them down in steps...0.456, 0.454, then the normal 0.452 insert.

Well the 0.456 worked fine.  The 0.454 was really, really challenging.  And then the 0.452 just wasn’t working.

So I’m going to remelt those bullets and try again....  I don’t like this trend of “this isn’t working” in my reloading room.

Went to the range for the first time in a year and a half....

Was a pretty successful trip.

Shot a ladder in .223 using Tubal 3000.  I'll start a thread with my findings in the next day or two.

Tried some 9mm with Clay dot.

Found that my new AR9 build works wonderfully with my reloads.

Some disappointments too though.

Loaded 45s with Lee 452-228-1R and found they don't work well in 45acp (must be a 45LC bullet?). Anyway it jammed up my new to me USP45 and couldn't shoot it.  I also brought some 45s loaded with Lee 452-230-2R and those worked fine in a buddy's 1911.

But I came back with more brass than I started with!
