Yamato 2199 is quite faithful to the original, what I've seen of it so far!

Same author,  but I think the two anime series were done by different companies.  There is a side story to the light novels, that is a crossover between SAO and Accel World.

For any of you guys interested in a Gundam game you should check out SDGO online.
It's pretty cheesy and kiddy but it's got about every mobile suit you would want.
Plus haven't seen a gundam game since I was a kid and this one does all right.
Free to play too.

If the conversation at the end of the last episode of Railgun's second season was intended as a hint, it looks like there will be another Railgun OVA, and it will be based on the "Liberal Arts City" side story.

It's not done, but it's at a better cliffhanger than the show (which won't come back for another year or so.)

Shows I'm watching that have just started:

Coppelion

Golden Time

Kyoukai no Kanata

Nagi no Asukara

Outbreak Company

Strike the Blood

Yuusha ni Narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shuushoku o Ketsui Shimashita (the subbing group seems to call it Yuushibu for some reason)

Continuing series:

Attack on Titan (at least I think this is still going)

Infinite Stratos

Magi

And I'm searching for a subbed version of the Chihayafuru 2 OVA but all I've found are raws for it.

Shows I absolutely will not be watching this season:

Kill la Kill

And others which aren't worth mentioning.  I only mention Kill la Kill because it's the worst thing I've ever seen.

adding to the watching list:

Non Non Biyori

Gingitsune is a maybe

Arpeggio of Blue Steel - Ars Nova is also a maybe looks promising but I'm not ready to say with certainty.
Some shows I know immediately that I'll like them... others take 2-3 episodes... and others... like kill la kill go straight to hate.

Meganebu is a No...

I watched all of the first ep of Kill la Kill just to make sure.  I didn't think it was possible for something to be worse than Gurren lagann... And Kill la Kill could have been decent if it actually had a story... and didn't have horrible animation.  It started with really bad animation then got a bit better ... really the only part that was good was when she was walking through the town... then it went right back to bad and the fighting scenes were just completely unwatchable. I can't believe blurry lines filling the screen are what they're trying to pass off as a fight scene... and it's apparently working.

I enjoyed Magi a lot so I will continue to watch it. Very up beat I really like it

Valvrave
I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job
Outbreak Company
Strike the Blood
Beyond the Boundary

Discontinued

Nagi no Asukara
Diabolik Lovers

New shows that have a tentative place on my watch list:

Coppelion
Log Horizon (very, very tentative - I was trying to avoid comparing it to SAO, but I was about to give up on it, then the female ninja's antics kept me watching)
Outbreak Company
Yuusha ni Narenwhatever
ETA: Arpeggio of Blue Steel

New shows that I doubt I'll try watching any more of:

Kill la Kill (didn't make it through the first episode, reminded me of some of the less interesting Young Animator Project videos)
Super Seisyun Brothers (didn't make it through that one, either)

Others are in the haven't seen yet, or haven't yet made up my mind, category. One week into the new season, and I'm already behind.

Not sure how you can say Kill La Kill has no plot when its 1 episode in.
Reminds me of Soul Eater with the oddball art cutscenes in FLCL The direction is like the 70s karate revenge flics with the big titles in red over laid onscreen and quick zooms on character faces. It's an in joke and it's different.

As for the art, FLCL was done by 6 artists so there are art shifts throughout but there are comparisons to be made in the exaggerated art sections of that show.
I'm giving it some latitude I think it will end up being pretty good… but again, its just one episode.

Think I'll add Log horizon.
I haven't seen sword art online... and I loved .hack//SIGN which both of these shows have sorta copied their premise from.  That of being trapped in an MMO unable to log out.
I have SAO just haven't gotten to it yet.
As for Kill la Kill.  I hated Gurren Lagann which was done by the same people.  The ever escalating fights and a paper thin plot designed to spoon-feed the fights to you does not in any way appeal to me.   Mindless fight scenes for the sake of fight scenes is not what I enjoy.   And like Soul Eater I see exactly where this is headed and I'm not interested. I find the art style to be just plane bad.  To compare it to FLCL is to insult FLCL.

The reason I like anime are the rich stories told by it.  I like the weird complex things that it takes a while to figure out especially. But not all anime is like that... it too has its mindless fight fests... and those shows I don't like.

Huge thanks to OhioLongRange for recommending Accel World, that was Epic!

Late in the series, they talk about the history and show the helmets that are used in SAO.  Too cool!

Beyond the Boundary
Comppelion
Golden Time
I couldn't become a Hero
Kill La Kill
Log Horizon
Nagi No Asukara
Non Non Biyori
Noucome/My mental multiple choice (boobies up above lol)
Outbreak Company
Stike the Blood

gunna be a busy season!

what? that I gave it way more time than usual to be good and it sucked?

Questionable anime gets 3 episodes to make a case for itself.  Bad anime I can tell in one episode.  Friends forcing bad anime on me get 5 in deference to them but no more.

But... After Kill La Kill I was pretty ready to say that Everything Trigger does is bad... And then I just got done watching Little Witch Academia.  That was actually good.  Good animation. Good characters.  Interesting world.  Trigger can do something right once in a while.

You're defining the essence of basement dwelling otaku elitism; persistently supporting the notion that "if I don't like something, it must be shit..." and further more "these opinions are facts."

Not every show is made to pander your interests or fine taste in Japanese animated story telling. However that doesn't inherently mean they're poor quality entertainment. Quite the contrary, it goes without saying there are many more people who hold the opposite view as you regarding such shows like TTGL and KlK.

No one says you have to like everything, but try realizing you're not the only person watching.

Then don't respond to me saying I don't like a show with.  "You're wrong." or more to the point... This:

I disagree with your opinion, yes that much should be obvious. However nowhere did I say you must like the things I like or imply you were "wrong" for not doing so. Forgive the 4chan style humor quoted previously - sometimes I forget which site I'm posting on and don't honestly believe you would take that seriously. My point of contention still stands as you are making blanket derogatory statements about things that are entirely subjective. I too don't understand why some people enjoy the things they do (practically every show that you've mentioned the past few pages), yet I'm not about to start telling you they suck simply because I don't particularly find them interesting or watchable.

Ironically, I think you'd find TTGL to exemplify many of the self described qualities you look for in anime - that is if you were to watch it's entirety rather than 5 episodes then proclaiming that "it sucked."
