They need some sort of reinforcement.  For the mag well and receiver sides, I'm thinking more plastic.  For the fire control pins, I'm thinking dog tags, since they can be preprinted with serial numbers and NFA trust info for those so inclined, or with whatever other text the builder might desire.  For the rear, I'm undecided.  I like Boris' idea of the shaped sheet steel, but I'm looking for something easier for the masses (myself included) to reproduce.

Mag well shrinks too, which is a problem.

This particular receiver was cast in a mold I already knew had problems.  Call it a proof of concept.

Could try casting it with aluminium shouldn't be too difficult to build a furnace to hit that melting point.

True sand casting isn't to difficult but more finish work.

Looks like Boris did a lost wax aluminum casting in his Fruity Ghost thread, in some sort of plaster mold.

Hmm odd size I was considering making side flats out of sheet steel and tacking a bolt on for the buffer.

Why not use one or more steel castle nuts?  Edit - never mind, I think I understood you backwards.  Problem of working on too many negative space problems this week.
