So here is where I'm at. You can see I drilled through the gas key so I could use a ejector pin as a recoil rod and help capture the spring so I can load a round by spring force. I did have to machine the gas key square in the rear so the spring had a flat surface to ride against. You can see that the ejector pin fits inside the handguard nut where the gas tube usually sits. This helps with the alignment so there is no binding and in that pic you can see I tapped the gas port in the barrel so I can reuse it in a semi auto configuration again if I want. Cut down the carbon fiber tube so I can attach and detach the can and I'm almost done completely. Just a single shot for this rifle. But I've been looking at make a gas piston system like the XCR has.
