So here is where I'm at.  You can see I drilled through the gas key so I could use a ejector pin as a recoil rod and help capture the spring so I can load a round by spring force.  I did have to machine the gas key square in the rear so the spring had a flat surface to ride against.  You can see that the ejector pin fits inside the handguard nut where the gas tube usually sits.  This helps with the alignment so there is no binding and in that pic you can see I tapped the gas port in the barrel so I can reuse it in a semi auto configuration again if I want.  Cut down the carbon fiber tube so I can attach and detach the can and I'm almost done completely.  I have another spring coming in to see if that will be better than what I'm using now.

This is very cool.  I have always wondered why nobody really does and AR upper with a captured spring contained within the upper.

So you are using this solety as a single shot, and racking the action each round?

I'd be curious if this could be adopted to a direct blowback 9mm?

Just a single shot for this rifle. But I've been looking at make a gas piston system like the XCR has.

where did you source the spring from? does it close the bolt with enough force to feed a round?

The spring I'm using now is from McMaster Carr.  It will close the bolt and lock depending on the round. I hit a snag with some subsonics where I have to help it lock up. I'm getting a flat wire spring that should fix that. Hoping to get that next week.

Sorry I've been busy trying to keep flooding at bay.

If you look up ejector pin at McMaster Car you can figure out which one you need for your application.  On the spring so far it's on the back burner until I get some time.

First off, is this semi auto or straight pull bolt action? Keep us informed of your creation and if you can get it to work. Would be very interested in something like this.

No but I did add some tungsten to the carrier to add mass so when I used the spring setup I have now the weight of the carrier slams it home.

Thanks, SLR makes some awesome stuff.

8'' barrel, 7.5'' rail.

May have been able to get away with a 7.75'' rail, but I didn't want to take the chance.

Did some testing today with my pistol and it runs flawless with 150gr rounds.  I'm using a low mass BCG and it runs fast with the linear compensator and the Fotech Echo.  Didn't get a chance to run subs but I doubt it will work.

.300blk pistol build as of now. Need to add a Magpul AFG, Surefire Warden and red dot still. Special thanks to John Thomas at Retro Arms Works. Did an amazing job on the barrel and gas block pinning. Anyone have a lightly used Surefire Warden in black they’d sell for a fair price please hit me up IM or email. Thanks
