So I got this Titan Defense TD415 upper which is a clone of the HK416 10.4 upper... posted it in the Titan Defense thread... it runs just fine both with and without a suppressor but accuracy leaves a lot to be desired, but ill take it back out this weekend and see how it does with a better trigger...

anyways, shooting it has me looking at legit HK MR556s... now, it would definitely go to Investment Grade Firearms for a barrel chop, however, the question is, I'm wondering whether I would want to:

1) form 1 the HK lower before 41F kicks in because its simple right now and have IGF cut down to a 10.4 inch spec, or...

2) leave the lower as is and just have him cut down to 14.5 inches and pin an AAC 51T to it

Option 2 would make the gun easier to move should I ever want to offload it... I already have like 4 lowers that are SBRs... but I sort of want that whole HK gun thing...

what say the HK thread? I have a SCAR 16 SBR already, so I don't know why I would want another piston gun that is arguably heavier than the SCAR or any other adjustable gas DI offering like  a switchblock or Micro MOA govnah... but I cant help myself sometimes, especially with this next political season coming up... I mean, I know the 416 in the MR556 generation isn't as up to date as the A3 or A5 models, but as I understand it, CAG and the FBI HRT are still using them, so I figure it cant be that bad of a rifle if they are still rocking them with the ability to move on to something else over the last several years...

anyways... thoughts?

I was really close to buying one of those uppers, and getting a CMC machine clone lower to finish it off... at the end of the day, I would have been in it for almost the cost of an MR556.... so I got an MR556.

The issue with the factory profile is more the weight than the length.  I'd have it re-contoured long before I cut it to 14.5.  Permanently attached muzzle anything is a crime against humanity.  Either 16 inches, or SBR.  Since you already have a 10.4 upper, SBR the lower, and if you really have a boner for a 14.5 upper, you don't have to mess with anything other than standard threads.

Eodinert,

Thanks for the input. I considered the same cnc machining route, but I agree getting an actual HK gun is really a better route. Depending on how it shoots I guess will determine whether it becomes a 10.4 or a 14.5 on the sbr'ed lower... Thanks again! I'm guessing you still like yours?

My new UMP 3-lug barrel doesn't work with it.  Tonight I will find out how that compares to the SiCo 3-lug adapter.  I do know the AAC Triad 3-lug adapter is designed to be more lenient and will work with any 3-lug barrel.

So short story, be prepared for some inconsistencies in 3-lug compatibility with the Griffin mount.

My SiCo, both Gemtechs, and now a Griffin 3-Lug all work on my RCM 3-lug barrel, and my HK factory 3-lug barrel. Dont know if its Griffins adapter, or Mike's barrel but something doesnt jive in your setup.

I don't know, I've never shot it

I'm contracting in Africa, it's waiting for me when I get home.  By the time I get done making it into the rifle I want it to be (10.4 inch barrel, SBR, RAL8000 tan with an optic and some HK accessories) it will be retardedly expensive.

your rifle is retro-tastic.... totally dig it. That buttstock cant be pleasant under a full power .308 though... maybe enough weight in the gun to make it a little more bearable?

Hahahaha.... We have to do with what we get. We call it 'The Beast'.

The idea is to have a 7.62x51 (or 7.62x54) sharpshooter rifle for patrolling in the bush. As there is constant getting in and out of vehicles, retractable or folding stocks are a blessing. If you don't need to do that, the G3 solid stock (with a heavy buffer if you have one) is the way to go.

Here are the rifles available:

G3s aren't gentle with your shoulder when you fire, but they are defenetly manageable even with that colapsable stock pictured. If you are planning to put 100 rds in rapid fire thru it, then you may need some extra padding... For sure!!!

The other option was a Dragunov in 7.62x54, but that is way to long.

At the beginning we had the G3 just with the Steiner x4 scope set, like this:

Then the need to install a tactical light for night or low light operations made us look for a solution, and believe me, we try a few. At the end we decided to put some rails in 'The Beast' and the Tango Down forward grip was the best solution we had to hold the rifle and use the Sure Fire. We got a Sure Fire M-951 for it but then it was swapped for the longer M-961 so the light was farther forward on the rifle.

So, that's the story behind 'The Beast'.

Those are AIM Sport, they are identical to the UTG ones, I would say same manufacturer but different brand. Not the best in the market. If you can find and afford a B&T or a FAB Defense they are much better choices.... But we have to do with what we get  ;)

Once installed - AIM and UTG - they have very sharp edges on both ends that need to be covered. (see pic attached)

Great looking guns Gentlemen!!!

The PTR K3 rocks the house Fedorov!

The 416 old set-up looks pretty cool, more like a CBQ than the new set-up. Very nice both set-ups ic_guerrero!

The MP5 10 clone is a superb looking smg! I always like the 2 round burst set-up. Congrats on that one 01SVTSnake!

Here two of our 'little ones', HK33K and HK53:
