Digital, micro patterns, and sponge patterns look neat up close, but don't really work as camouflage in the field.  These types of patterns just blend into their dominate color from a distance.  If actual effective camouglage is a concern don't waste your time with digi or sponge.  You'd be just as well off with plain OD or CB.

My "emergency" rifles are painted like Wulf's and RJeff's. Great job guys!

I can't see it in there.

My unscientific test method has always been the same:

1) place various camo items (gear, guns, clothes) in various environmental settings (edge of woodline, in farm field, near a house, etc);
2) take pictures;
3) repeat each season;
4) evaluate.

To my eyes in my area I always found the macro patterns to be most effective.  Good old woodland camo always wins in summer..no matter how much I want ATACS FG, CADPAT, MARPAT, Danish M84, Flectarn, Multicam, etc to beat it.

Your mileage varied.

ETA: For my area Danish M84 was really effective in spring, and ATACS FG is very effective in autumn. It could just be me, but many colors/patterns seem to bright.  I stay away from black, but OD or some other dark green, coyote brown, and dark brown are my favorites.

Began as rustoleum sand and aervoe highland

When that needed touching up i added Krylon khaki and aervoe light coyote

Then finally,  added rustoleum deep forest green and Krylon olive

Wanted something different, stated with base of aervoe light tan

Striped with aervoe earth brown and coyote,  put on the trusty laundry bag and used a stencil to hit it with rustoleum army green,  khaki,  earth brown,  and Krylon olive.

Looks somewhat colorful in pics but is more subdued in person.

With me getting back from my 15th deployment in the last 25 years in 17 countries and 42 states, I will say never knock a finish as not "effective as real camo" until you have put it into the environment it was best suited for....
Sponge, Kryptec, and other patterns do have a place, you just need to be the person to work in that place.

The paint is listed a few posts up,  as far as technique it's just freehand through a mesh laundry bag from Walmart.   Actually it was some kind of bra wash bag iir,  it was the only thing with the small hex print i was looking for.  Skipped the mesh for the green stripes.

The rifle is a 14.7 pinned mostly del-ton with casv handguard, midwest industries rear sight,   b5 bravo stock, primary arms red dot,  and magpul k2 grip. Loosely inspired by the navy eod mk18's

I like to all black high powered scoped rifle on a tripod every now and then..... but, If my safe was full of all black rifles I might call it boring a bit ha-ha.

I'm really digging the worn paint on your stick. Also kinda like the plain black vortex contrast against your paint job.
Well done sir

I'm still waiting on my form 1 to come back before I throw some paint on mine
Just don't want to try it now and then try and get the stock to match later.

Painted Tavor the other day. Looks OK IMO. Could be better could be worse. No doubt it will blend in better though, so I'm happy.
Used sponge method.

Woodland and flektarn have always been two of my favorite patterns, this is my attempt at a hybrid of the two.
Rustoleum army and deep forest green and earth brown,  aervoe coyote, post ww2 od and earth brown sprayed through homemade stencils

I decided to spray the PSA I got in yesterday. (Bottom rifle)

Base coat

Base colors (khaki, fde, nutmeg, avacado, rustoleum brown) turned out WAY too light for my geographic location.

So I added some Rustoleum OD and dark brown camo paint for the finished product:

What do you guys think?

That's actually the look I was trying to mimic without overly complicating things. I used a cargo net out of an SUV. When I laid it over the gun I pulled loose in areas so it wasn't a "uniform" pattern.

Thanks for the feedback.

Can you explain how you did that?  I was going to do mine that way but with different colors.  I already have a base coat of khaki.

Thanks

A base coat of khaki. Laundry bag with flat black lightly dusted on the top. Some stripes of earth brown. Then ALOT of masking tape. Tore it lengthwise kinda randomly to make a rough edge. Then masked off everything except where the khaki and brown meet and sprayed with more flat black.
