Here's a pistol I painted today
Really wasn't too sure if I wanted to paint the Aimpoint, but now that I'm done, I'm glad I did....
Here's the pistol painted OD from a few months ago. I just added an arm stabilizer, so I decided to give her a new camo coat.

Base coat of OD.

Highlights and pattern added.
</a>" />

Darkened and finished.

Nice job, could you post exactly what paint/colors and steps you used? Thanks

Thanks, yeah I think it came out good.
I used rustoleum flat camo paint.
Army green base
Sand for the tan
Forest green for the light green
And earth for the red tones

Pretty much just used a few cedar branches as the stencils for the last coats. Used some tall grass as well.
I've done other guns with leaves and small bunches of grass, but I think the cedar beach looks a lot better.

Easy-peasy.
Base coat of Valspar Rugged

Light stripes of Rustoleum Earth Brown and OD

Dusted the darker spots with Valspar Seine (kinda grey-ish tan color)

Dusted the lighter spots with brown

Done and done.

I liked it so much, I went ahead and painted my 600V and DBAL as well.

Screw it!  I'm painting the first AR I ever bought in 2008. She doesn't get much love anymore since the SBRs and Cans took over.  How do you y'all get that grid/mesh pattern?

EDIT:  Did some reading.  Mesh laundry bags.  Genius.

If you want it to wear, use Krylon and if you want it to be durable then use Aervoe.

Thanks, I'm happy with how it turned out.  Its all aervoe.

I started with a base coat of WWII OD green, then I just basically sprayed small blotches of earth brown and black.  The top coat is light green sprayed in random blotches, and with the overspray it all blends together nicely.

Saturday morning I spent three hours driving around town looking for Krylon camo paint.  Everyone had Rustoleum camo, but I've had better luck with Krylon.  Anyway, I ended up using:

Krylon Fusion Camo - Tan
Krylon Fusion Camo - OD
Rustoleum - Nutmeg (close to Coyote Brown)
Rustoleum Camo - Earth Brown

Over the course of Saturday and Sunday I kept adding colors / modifying the pattern until it worked in my environment....

FIRST PATTERN (Tan Base with OD Stripes)

It looked great inside, but outside it was WAY TO LIGHT!

SECOND PATTERN (ADDED Nutmeg Stipes & OD Overspray / Mist)

It looked bland outside....

LAST PATTERN (ENHANCED Tan Stripes, ADDED Earth Brown Stripes, DUSTED with Tan & OD)

I'm happy with the end result.

For the "Sponge" jobs are you guys spraying the paint on the sponge then dabbing it on the rifle or spraying the rifle then pressing a dry sponge onto the rifle?

Spray a little on a paper plate and then dab the sponge on the plate. Let the sponge get dry as you dab the rifle for a feathered out look. You can also mix colors to get other shades to put next to the pure colors.

Sponge paint looks really nice, but it isn't that effective as real camo.

I've painted quite a few ARs and the most effective are the stripped / blotched camo jobs that use about three colors.

Digital, micro patterns, and sponge patterns look neat up close, but don't really work as camouflage in the field.  These types of patterns just blend into their dominate color from a distance.  If actual effective camouglage is a concern don't waste your time with digi or sponge.  You'd be just as well off with plain OD or CB.

My "emergency" rifles are painted like Wulf's and RJeff's. Great job guys!
