I just saw a SP053** at a pawnshop.
It had the + lower with the early 604 upper, slabside carrier, dimpled selector, mp "s" 12 barrel, 3 prong fs, skinny a1 grip, 3x USA made scope, colt bayo, and colt bipod. ...to bad it is in the "pawn" stage, not for sale. |

The handguards on the rifle are from sometime in 1986, my folks gave them to me for Christmas, which my very cruel father included in my gift box they sent to Guam, where I had as much use for them as I did snowshoes. Just a reminder that he had my rifle. I have the original triangle guards, locked safely away, but I had the Harris bipod on her when I took the pic, something that does not work well on the original HG's. I also have the original rear sight windage knob, also tucked away in the safe, as well as the original front sight post, but in truth, I much prefer the square version. In those three things, the rifle is uniquely mine, and as I never, ever will part with her, it does not make much difference to me. Although I do admit to swapping handguards just for giggles from time to time.

One thing, my baby drew blood, mine, not long after I got her. I was home alone, sick, sometime during the winter of 85, attempting the manual of arms (or what I thought was the manual of arms) and grabbed the top of the triangle handguards with much snap and pop. Doing so, I opened the palm of my hand rather nicely. Having the flu and seeing my hand a nice bloody mess, I promptly went lights out. I am very proud to say that just before crashing onto the bathroom floor, I did have the presence of mind to lean the rifle against the wall. About the only thing I feel good about concerning that incident. Wondered how the hell I was gonna ever make it as a Marine if I passed out at the sight of my own blood. It was not my proudest moment, but at least I didn't drop my rifle.

I found a SP1 today at a local gun store.
The S/N was SP212686. From what I can tell from the serial number info., the rifle was manufacture between 1983 & 1985? The rifle had a 16" chromed barrel and a collapsible stock. I am interested in buying this as my first AR..... |

I picked up a SP-1 this weekend. All markings appear to be correct, with exception of the lack of a bayonet lug.
The only mention I've seen of this is in this thread: http://beta.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=2&f=29&t=149163 His is a 72,xxx S/N, mine is a very high 71,xxx S/N, which is close enough to make me wonder if a few went out the door in this configuration. Very similar to the one in the thread down to the flash hider not being indexed. I'll post up pics tonight if one of the resident experts has any thoughts on the subject. |

HI, hopefully this works, not sure if I'm doing this right (new to forums).
Does anybody know where to get an sp1 bolt carrier? |

This needs to be re-tacked!

I've owned my SP1 for about 6 years. It hasn't had many round fired thru her in about 15 years.
It's ALL original with 'C" in all the normal locations. SN = SP1052xx I plan on keeping it a long time. Thoughts of making it F/A. Jerry FFL 07/02 |

I bought a Colt SP1 Serial # SP 85018 many years ago after I came home from the Marines. Every time I take it out and Shoot it, I get asked to sell it. I love this rifle. I use the .22 cal conversion kit with it often. It looks like new, VERY slightly used. If I was offered something crazy, I MIGHT sell it. I doubt it. I have numerous accessories. What is a high and low value for just the rifle?
Thank you. MILTON. |

Bayo lug no fwd asst. a + on rt. side of lower no fence around mag release. I think this has a 1968 build date? |

You can inquire of Colt and get a letter documenting its actual ship date for $25, or its complete configuration/history for $100. |

Cool, thanks for the info on the docs.
But the last letter I sent Colt, I doubt they would do anything for me at any price. |

For SP 01628, here are a few interesting details. Barrel: between the spares of the front sight: an "M" and "VP" within an inverted triangle. At the front of the barrel (bottom): "12" and a small "s". An "M" and "P" at the front of the chrome bolt. A "+" under the ejector port. These early rifles are really cool and under appreciated.

I bought it off Gunbroker of all places in 2004 to replace the SP1 I stupidly sold in 1990. That was my first AR and first big mistake selling a gun. I bought it at a pawn shop in 1988. I wish I remembered the serial number from that first AR. |

Would anyone happen to know if a colt sporter manufactured in 1978 would've shipped as a complete rifle or possibly as a stripped lower?
All I have is the lower and want to know with any certainty if it was a complete rifle before the ban. Thanks! |
