Does any one make a pin to replace the factory screw together contraption Colt used on the SP1s? I would like to find something similar looking to what was on the 601s.

yes,but they're fugly.
the pin is long so the detent ball extends outside the lower, not into a counterbore in the upper's lug.
hard to explain, it'd be a last resort for me.

I know what you are saying. I believe the SP1 uppers doesn't have the rebated front lug. It beats the one that has the push button.

What retains the push pin? or one would just continue to use the large head screws?
