Does there exist such a thing as a 601 style front pin that would work in an SP1?

Somebody will be along in a second to prove me wrong but a 601 style pin will not work as an SP1 upper is not rebated to accept the "ball bearing" detent besides the obvious difference in size.

there's a commercial offering that has the ball bearing outside the lower.  basically it's longer and the detent keeps the pin in place.

I don't know if it'll work for every upper, but I have had good luck permanently installing the  front bushing and then using the detente pin. The shelf that's created between the bushing and lug dia. difference gives a pretty good engagement surface for the bearing and I've never had my NDS pin walk.

Food for thought...

That might work if you're using an SP1 upper on a non-SP1 lower but if you're using the lower you will still have the pin diameter size difference issue.

I have one that is dimpled like a real one and the bearing is set back so it rests between the upper and lower lug.  I think I got it from HeatnBeat

Thanks! That's exactly what I was hoping for. Maybe I don't have to "engineer" something after all!

I got one of those from some guy in TX (^^^^^^) and it works quite well. I'd suggest that the OP send him a message.
