When I received my lower, I gave it a good wipe down and liberal application of motor oil I had lying around. Wiped it off after several hours of soaking and it looks great. When I took some photos to show my buddies, the photos didn't look anything like it does in person... |

I'm going to do my upper and stock in that, so hopefully it'll look nice. |

Just a real light coat of Italian Gun Grease tactical oil. Applied and left on over night, quick wipe down and the finish has stayed the same as in the pics. I just couldn't believe how much of a finish change there was from the flat grey it started as. But I think it looks sharp with this dull brass look almost gold.

I figure I'll hold off on oiling anything up until I get the Q1 upper. That way I can see what (if anything) may be needed to try to match up the colors. I can pick up the lower from jail on the 29th. Strill trying to decide if I want to go with a PredatAR or a Stealth barrel.

Wait no disrespect to you I was just surprised at the serious color change after a good oiling. I believe after all I have read is that depending on the lubricant used it could take on a couple different finishes. From a grey to a gold tone. Or even just a darker look. I am kinda excited to what mine comes out as when I get around to coating it down. I certainly want to be sure to use the same lube for all exterior parts. I never expected a rifle finish to do this. LT is full of surprises. I like it. Apologizes if I came across as rude or condescending. I will certainly post mine when I finish it to be sure.

If you need my order number to put me at the bottom of the list, let me know, I'd be happy to wait. Thanks |

So many decisions,
what lower parts kit to use? |
|
|
[#13]
The lower does stain pretty easy from handling it and lower parts kit pieces at the same time.

Are there quality LPKs made with the exposed controls in compatible (or at least varying) colors? Black is ok but it will kind of jump out on an RO receiver. It'd be nice to have less contrast.
Or is that a job for cerakote/gunkote? |

Thanks, I'm reviewing them. Those V7 pieces are a bit pricy...

That V7 stuff is expensive as all get out but it's nice. The guy running the company left Noveske to do it his way with top quality materials, reliability, durability and lightweight in mind...but as you've noticed, no real care for pricing. That's why I also listed the DS Arms products. |

I've been thinking about comparing a burnt bronze selector to the RO to see how they pair up. |

I've been thinking about comparing a burnt bronze selector to the RO to see how they pair up. To be fair, I'm not complaining about LaRue prices, or about specific 3rd party prices. We're getting a great deal on these LaRue items, and I got a lucky start by winning a LaRue gift card a few years ago, and another break when using it buying the Stealth 1.0 upper, barrel (on sale), and accessories got me on the BuildAR list. I probably wouldn't be in the LaRue pool if not for that (other than doing the contest each month). Just economics and little or no previous investment in ARs; I was more into American wood and steel milsurps. Sheer chance. I'm staying on the list. But until/if LaRue makes RO small parts available for individual sale (if ever), there are no entirely correct parts for Stealth 2.0 users, and there aren't a lot of pics showing the various third party parts installed on said RO receivers. Spending a chunk on expensive parts only to find out they look wrong, or even bad, sucks. Better to stay with black in that case. Post pics of the burnt bronze selector on the RO, please! And if you don't mind fill in what kind of oil you used on the RO parts since reports of varying color results based on type of oil are out there. Wangstang, thanks for the background on the V7 guy. I'm not in an immediate rush to buy lower parts since my Q1 upper is still backordered but if time comes and I can afford them (and hopefully someone has already posted pics of how they look on an RO build) they are in consideration. |

No need to explain. I'm trying to do this on a shoe string budget and I won't be spending money on V7 parts unless I run up on one heck of a deal. I did use some of their gear a couple of years ago(They were brand new) for a lightweight build and the parts were outstanding as well as the customer service. I'd be happy to use them again if my budget could afford it. Wes |
