Pretty sure, I just checked it again and got a little more out of it, but I won't know for sure until I shoot again.

Ordered.  Thank you.
If you decide to go with different foam, this was posted here and I did this as well.

Amazon Product
  • 57mm (2-1/4") thick x 24" x 48"
  • Easy to peel away layers
  • Cuts easily

Although I still can't get the damn thing zero'd at 100yrd.

Razor is at max and it's still 1.5 mil high.
Interesting.

Just 1.

The way I laid the rifle I had to cut completely through the receiver/stock section and tapered up towards the muzzle.

If you go back a few pages, I have a post of how I did my case like this. I switched the foam out with Kaizen foam, which was about $25 for a sheet.

ETA: Didn't go down far enough to see somebody else had recommended it!

question for you guys, I've never had a barrel that needed "breaking in" and frankly my process has been to shoot the crap out of a new barrel. This hasn't led to any lack of accuracy or whatever over the years.

Going to shoot the PVA barrel this weekend and is there anything special I need to do or just zero it and start shooting?

I asked the same question of Josh @ PVA when I got mine. Here's his response...

"Shoot a half dozen rounds, lightly clean. Repeat. Break in is complete. Then shoot it. Done."

Don't know if this is exactly the right thread for this but here it is one way or the other. Decided that I would load up all the different ammo that I have and do a little chrono session today. Hopefully this is of interest. Here are the results. Rifle is my Gen II RPR in 6.5 Creedmoor. Patriot Valley Arms 26" match barrel with Mad Scientist brake. The chrono is a Caldwell Ballistic Precision and the data is being collected on my iPhone using the Caldwell app. After today's session, there have been 196 rounds total through the PVA barrel.

Here's the setup.

As far as today's groups go, once again the Federal American Eagle grouped the best. As usual my disclaimer is that I'm just learning so some of the lesser groups could very well be me and not the ammo but there is a definite pattern of the Federal having the best groups.  The 140ELD, 120ELD are close behind at .5 MOA with Prime and Black more like .75 MOA.

Hopefully this information is useful.

Good results. Your shooting 6 shots each yet 3 shot groups. To really tell how your ammo is performing, 5 shots per group normally tells me a lot more.

I would clean it really good before heading out to make sure you get everything out from the machining process. Shoot it 10-20 times, run a few patches with some copper solvent on it. Done

Just how I normally do it

Scope looks fine cosmetically, not sure if there is a way to test it without it being mounted? Kinda wonder what was wrong that they had to refurbish it in the first place

Morning range update.

The PVA barrel freaking shoots.

5 shot .5" group using the Hornady AG 140g.

Just cleaned the know your limits rack at 500y.

Off to 1k.

Per the magnetospeed I'm averaging 2602fps out of the 20.75" barrel.

That seems slow...I had a 18" Criterion 6.5 Creedmoor Rem-Age barrel that got 2664fps with Hornady 140gr Amax Match ammo.

.285 G7 for that Hornady 140gr HPBT worked great for me at long range, FWIW.

I should of also noted that's the first 10 rounds put through it.

Shot 150 rounds today. Need it to settle down a bit and see what it can do again at the 300 round mark.

My new RPR in 6.5 CM just arrived yesterday.  I'm hoping to get to the range in the next couple of days, but for now I'm playing with it, getting a preliminary setup for everything, zeroing my scope and so on.

The manual says there's a 5/64 wrench in the bolt shroud for adjusting the trigger, but doesn't say a word about how to open it.  I've got to assume it's in the back where there's something like a cap but that cap doesn't seem to want to unscrew or come off.

So I'm sure I'm missing something, but I don't see how to get that off.  Does it unscrew like a conventional right hand thread?

Thanks for the kind words. I played around with quite a few different lay outs. I had also saved pics of other's cases any time I ran across one that I liked. I took what I liked from all of that for my lay out. I considered adding a Berry box for ammo but decided against it.

When I just redid mine with the new foam, I debated putting ammo in it but decided against it as well.

In doing so I forgot to layout my suppressor in it.

I have managed to avoid ordering the rifle, but I do have a nice scope that is destined for one. Going for the delayed satisfaction route, since knowing me once I have it I will just start looking for another rifle
Currently practicing with a precision build AR since I am still very new to long range precision shooting.

Added the Vtab to the stock today. This thing is an amazing piece of machining. Works great. I could never quite get comfortable with the stock in the prone. Being able to move the butt pad higher is really cool. No affiliation. Just think it's a great addition.

One followed me home today. I was about to bid on gunbroker but asked the local shop what they could get one for and he says

"We have one sitting in the back that is on sale from the distributor and you can get an extra 10% off because it has been sitting here so long"

It was too long to fit in the rotary display cases so no one ever saw it.

I saved enough I was able to get a Cricket for my kids and still pay less than anywhere else.

Agree. I had 1.26" on mine and they work with a 50mm objective but barely. Better off higher. More clearance and better/easier cheek weld. I have 1.45" Vortex Precision on mine now.

This.  Unlike a regular bolt action with a drop-comb stock, it's best to think of this rifle as being like an AR10.
That straight buffer tube and stock really raises the eye position, even with the cheek rest bottomed out.
Personally, I wouldn't go with anything lower than 1.4".  If you're planning on a cheek bag/pad, you'll likely want one even higher than that.

[Last Edit: ENGCPT] [#47]
This may be a dumb question but my primary long range shooting exoerience is limited to punching holes in paper and deer with different ammo for each task.  Precision was usually 5.56 bthp and deer was usually 7mm mag 150 grain Remington core-lockt.  Will match BTHP ammo work for deer?  I know it is kind of the gold standard for match ammunition.

I would like to keep ammo the same so I'm not always re-zeroing but I don't know what the ideal "precision/performance" round is that I can also use for deer.  Does such a round exist in 6.5 creedmore?

Thanks in advance

Put a bullet into the vitals and deer will die...be it a match bullet or not.  Plenty of deer have been cleanly and ethically harvested with a 168/175 SMK.

If you are concerned about "penciling through", I'd recommend using an Amax or ELD-M...the 168gr ELD-M is a *great* bullet for a 308 as is the 140gr for the 6.5 Creedmoor with a long history of very positive results on medium game.

It's the Wiebad Mini Stock Pad. Really nice addition. It's some sort of suede like material with a bit of padding. Secured with 2 velcro strips and a center strap underneath.
