Just got a pretty good deal on GunBroker for the rifle

Picking one of these up on Friday in 6.5, a gen 2. Thinking of cutting down barrel to 18, 19, or 20, and installing either a 15 or 18 inch MI hand guard depending on which one I settle on. Will be shot almost exclusively with an Omega on the end. I have used long 22-26 inch barrels in the past, I'm really looking for something more compact and handy.

A couple of items for thought:

It was absolutely worth the decreased velocity for the increased handling and shorter length for hunting with a suppressor and still had PLENTY for 1000 yard steel banging. For me at least, cost. A new barrel costs 400-500 bucks. I can cut this one down for 125.
Also, I already have a 700 with a 22 inch 6.5 barrel. So it's not like i'm new to the cartridge, or to long range. I have enough time schlepping my current boomstick around to know this is what I want to do. I shot mammoth with it this year and finished tough man division. Lots more schlepping vs 1K plus shots. |

Components are always going to cost more over the life of the barrel. |

Can anyone help me out with ring height? RPR with a Midwest Industries rail and magpul PRS stock. Optic is a SWFA 3-15. Would .97-1 inch rings be good or do I need higher?

Took it out for the first time today. Is there a way to remove the little safety in the middle of the trigger? Or would this be unwise
What bullet weight does everyone's rifle seem to prefer? I got some Hornady 120gr & 140gr and it seemed to like the 140 better. But I only shot to 100yards today, so not sure about once I get to stretch its legs ETA: Thank for ruining cheaper scopes for me BTW. The Viper PST is so much better than the Diamondback I have on another rifle |
|
|
I believe the only way to remove the trigger safety is by replacing the trigger assembly. There is though, a trigger shoe that can be installed. Sold by Delta Team Tactical Titanium Trigger Shoe

Mentioned to one of the guys at the local IDPA match (who coincidentally is a FFL) that I really wanted one of these in 6.5 Creedmoor. He says if I can find one, Ill sell it to you at $20 over cost because Ive got none in stock.
Lo and behold, my phone rings this morning and its him. Needless to say, I own a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5CM now. And yes this is a tag. |

Postal,
Did you have to mess with the barrel at all to install the rail? |

Mine qualified, and I filled out the info to get a replacement shroud. I don't want to think about a round not going off, then going off when I raise the bolt handle.

Looks like I'm filling out the recall too.

My RPR chugs along quite nicely no issues at all.
Although I have lost the tool from the back of the bold shroud. Mine is a 308 with a 24 inch barrel. What I have found is that firing Sierra 195 TMK's I consistently get 1/2 MOA. My reloading recipe is Powder: Varget 40.5 grain (or else ADI powder 2206H) Brass: What ever is lying around Primer: What ever is cheapest Bullet seating depth: What ever will comfortably fit into the magazine I have to admit I love my RPR and yes it is also my hunting rifle. |

Anyone here put on a LRI bolt shroud? Any must do mods/upgrades?
ETA: Any good data books out there? Only ones I see seem really overpriced. Also, what all goes in them? |
