Is it wrong to post this to the Colt gallery thread?

Is there a mag? I'm thinking of the cops popped it out and cleared it they would've locked the slide back.

The dude was minding his own business enjoying a recreational marijuana cigarette. Had the cops not swarmed all around him he probably would have taken a nap and gone on with his life. Now he's taking a dirt nap and he has no life. He may be a felon in possession of a firearm but we wasn't doing anything that warranted getting deaded.

Even if that is the case, when a cop says, "drop your weapon" what do you do?   Jump out of the car holding it?   I mean that must be some seriously good weed for that to seem like a good idea

Getting busted for a joint means he knew that he was also going to get busted with a firearm as a felon.
He knew he was going to jail, and pulled his gun like an idiot.

Not much more to it than that.

Failure to comply is the common thread in all these cases. You're absolutely right that these knuckleheads turn mildly bad situations into extremely bad situations by their refusal to submit to authority. I get that.

But damn, maybe at some point the cops should just say "Fuck it, it's not worth killing the dude over this." Correct me if I'm wrong but years ago didn't the police seriously curtail high speed pursuits over minor shit because it wasn't worth the risk? Maybe a similar mindset needs to come into play before escalating minor violation encounters into deadly force situations. Yeah, the guy has a gun. Maybe they could just back off and watch the dude for awhile instead of taking it to the wall.

I'm just thinking out loud. This is not a well-thought out position. I could be wrong. It just seems so pointless and stupid.

Seems like what the world really needs is a more effective non-lethal weapon. Put the phasers on stun and deal with it later . . .

This pretty much sums it up. Instead of burnin his herb at home or somewhere that's not exposed to risk of being seen, his dumb ass decided to burn in his car in an apartment complex parking lot. With his record, getting caught with weed and a stolen hand gun equals more prison time.

Hardly. I'm 56 years old. Haven't smoked ANYTHING in more than 25 years. Definitely too old to be messing around with pot. I'm good with wine and whiskey.

As for stealing a dollar from me, I'm a pawn broker. I don't get upset over dollars. I don't mean that to suggest that's too small an amount to worry about. It's just that I've learned to adopt a "It is what it is" attitude about shit.

When you are a convicted felon is possession of a pistol and the cops find you smoking a joint it's not "it is what it is".

I'm sure it's been discussed here but this is my opinion based on the body cam and dash cam footage: I did not see Keith point his gun at any officers and honestly I didn't even see the gun in his possession but the angles weren't the best. I see a post above mine with a photo of a handgun, presumably Keith's, so it does look like he had one.

What was the call for this gentleman, or was this the case where officers were in the area for something else and suddenly came across Keith and saw he had a gun?

So much more to say but it honestly looks like the officer who fired, fired too early. Not necessarily saying it was unjustified but it seems as if he was a little trigger happy.

That being said, it's always difficult to asses a situation you were and have not been a part of. And as we know, hindsight is always 20/20.

At the end of the day, someone lost their life and a family lost their husband, father, brother, son, etc.

CNN and local papers said the non-uniformed officers saw him with a gun WHILE smoking his blunt. Then got vests and additional uniformed officers to confront him as a man with a gun and blunt.

They never said it was out and waving it so i could imagine he had the exposed ankle holster while smoking. In one of the videos you can clearly his holster.

The officer doesn't chose to escalate to deadly force, the druggie pulling out the gun does.
If someone had invented a foolproof nonlethal, they'd have make roughly all of the money already.

But I bet if someone stole a dollar from you, you would be screaming like a little girl if the cops said, "lol it's only a dollar, we ain't doing shit."

Derp

When you are a convicted felon is possession of a pistol and the cops find you smoking a joint it's not "it is what it is".

I can't imagine being stupid enough to do that but generally, in encounters with police I fall into the "yes sir, no sir" camp. The "smart thing" to do when the cops surround you in your car with a joint and gun is to offer your wrist and talk to your lawyer. I don't believe anybody is claiming the dude was a genius, though.

Truth be told, he'd probably get a slap on the wrist and not see any time. Regardless of whose perspective you look at this from, it wasn't worth anybody getting killed over.

The officer doesn't chose to escalate to deadly force, the druggie pulling out the gun does.
If someone had invented a foolproof nonlethal, they'd have make roughly all of the money already.

Seems like what the world really needs is a more effective non-lethal weapon. Put the phasers on stun and deal with it later . . .

Seems like a product worth spending some time developing. There's certainly market potential.

Did we ever find out why they pulled him to begin with?

Some cop saw him smoking a joint in his parked car. Cop left and rallied the troops and they came back to bust him for the crime of the century.

Even if that is the case, when a cop says, "drop your weapon" what do you do?   Jump out of the car holding it?   I mean that must be some seriously good weed for that to seem like a good idea

You make more sense than 87% of GD.

Cultures of liars is the real systemic problem.

I hope it ends one day.  I'm tired of seeing the police vilified.

Well, now we know who our resident militant pothead is.

"He was only breaking the law, law enforcement should've left him alone."

But I bet if someone stole a dollar from you, you would be screaming like a little girl if the cops said, "lol it's only a dollar, we ain't doing shit."

Was just about to post this, almost word for word.

Not to get off-topic, but what the hell is a 'blunt'?

I thought they were called 'joints'?
And no, I'm not THAT old.

They were at the complex serving a warrant on a different person when they encountered Scott.

blunt is a emptied cigar refilled with marijuana, much larger that a normal joint.
