I don't know if that's 100% true. I went to check out the shop with my gf at the time and her sister and they were setting up for a shoot. They asked us if we wanted to be extras but told us we would have to stick around for about 3-4 hrs before they even started filming and couldn't leave until they were done. We said fuck that. They definitely cherry pick attractive people for the background though.

Was no line to get in when we were there. Everyone else is right, the place is really small. It's about 48% museum, 50% gift shop and maybe 2% pawn shop.

Not just smaller than it looks on TV, but WAAAAAAAAAAAAY FUCKIN' TINY! You walk in, the place is maybe 40' deep, 15' wide and has a little L shape to it that gives it an extra 150 ft sq. Inventory sucked, only thing interesting was a Super Bowl ring, but even still. Nothing truly "neat". I think the "cool shit" comes in but it is staged and they never sell it to those guys.

No stars, had to walk the who fuckin way in Nevada heat, took the bus back because it was a long as walk from the Tuscany Hotel (nice place btw). You can drink beer on the strip too, $1 beers as you walk the strip is cool. Puked in the hotel, overall a decent trip.

Every time I went to Vegas the line was always very long to get inside to see the pawn shop, so I never got a chance to see it.

I meet a group of friends in Vegas every year.  One guy is from Boston.  As soon as we got in to the hotel he started excitedly telling us about a tour of "Porn Stars, ya know the tv show."

I never watched it, but hey, I'm game for anything involving seeing porn stars in Vegas.

So, we go on this tour of Kounts Kustoms, some fish tank place, a toy store, a baseball card shop and, to my disappointment, a pawn shop.

Apparently, in Boston pawn is pronounced porn.  Don't be fooled like me.

And, for the OP, each place had one of the little stars present.  Most were just a means to get you into their gift shop and buy stuff.  Maybe if I watched the shows I might have enjoyed the tours more.

I would think "porn" would be pronounced "pawwwn", like "Bawwwston".

Pawn stars was a huge disappointment.  One little corner of actual pawn stuff and the rest of the store is dedicated to show memorabilia.

I swing by Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash whenever I'm in Red Bank. Kevin Smith is there a lot and they are always filming there. But when they are filming they close the shop to the public and you can only get in with a pass. I've never met him.

I wouldn't waste a minute of vacation trying to go to the pawn shop but I did run into Chumlee and Corey at the Golden Gate Casino downtown.

They were just playing blackjack at a $50 table in the "High Limit" area and nobody seemed to notice them.

No Antwon at the door either.

My wife goes to a convention in Vegas every year. She & her boss stopped by the Pawn Stars Shop years ago & Antwon was behind the counter instead of providing security. Her boss brought the original Seiko watch mint in box & she had a vintage 50s handbag made of folded cigarette packs. Antwon made no offer on either  She said they film on a set designed to look like the shop & half of the actual store is all show related merch like shirts & mugs.

Where did you here that?

When they are filming they will announce it locally in Las Vegas, you can go to the store and apply to be in the 'background".

I was stationed in Vegas years ago and I drove past that pawn shop millions of times.  I like looking around in them because as they say, you never know what you'll find.  But in the case of this pawn shop I never went in because it looked like a dump and the area is pretty damn sketchy.  Then imagine my surprise years later when I'm watching TV and see they made a show about it.  It was cool to watch a few times, but I always thought, "Why in the fuck did they make a show in that dump?"

Long before Pawn Stars was a show, a documentary crew shot an episode at the pawn shop. They wanted to see who comes to a pawn shop in the middle of the night. Rick was running the shop that night.

Rick describes some of what they sell. He was very non-celebrity like. Just a regular Joe. The camera pans to a pile of "Nazi daggers" that he was pricing.

It was from that experience that Rick pushed to have a show based on his shop. He did this for years to no avail.

The thing about the Nazi stuff is that on the show Pawn Stars Rick claimed he never deals in Nazi memorabilia. Obviously a lie but true now that he had a syndicated show.

I went there a few years ago with a friend so he could pick up a Chum Lee bobble head.  As we walked in one of the production crew grabbed us and told us they were closing to shoot an episode.  We asked if could grab the bobble head real quick and she asked us if we wanted to be extras.  10 minutes later they were shooting.  Rick and Corey were buying a cocktail napkin drawing by Charles Schultz that he had given a waitress.  It was shot on the floor of the store, not on a sound stage.  As soon as they were done Rick and Corey went in the back, they opened the store and an assload of people came flowing in.  We bought the bobble head and GTFO. Whole deal took about an hour and 10 minutes.

We met Chumlee a couple years ago at the store, second time we visited. Got a few pics. He seemed considerably more intelligent than he acts on the show, so it was pretty clear he's faking it on the show.

Didn't meet anyone recognizable the first time I visited.

Tip: apparently locals don't have to wait in the line to get in like the tourists do, so if you know a local you can bypass the line with them. I think they have to show ID with a address nearby.

The shop is in a shit part of town. It is very small inside, even after the expansion. I was there once before the show started and once after. The expansion is literally just there for them to put of shelves and racks to peddle their show merchandise. They have a couple of the items from the show on display and refuse to sell any of them.

I've run into all of them at one point or another around town. They were never at the shop. Rick is a weapons grade shit bag. Chum Lee is not as dim witted as he makes himself out to be, but he's no Rhodes scholar either. You should see the money he spent on his "girlfriends" birthday about 2 years ago, it was a comical shit show. Corey is about the same. Ask the 2 of them how they bought a bag full of oregano in high school thinking it was weed.

The old man is exactly how he is on the show. Spaced out and completely lacks a GAF. He's at least cordial to speak to, the rest are just shitty people who think they are better than you.

It may not seem like it but Vegas is pretty small. You get to see a lot of famous people around. I've run into Mike Tyson at work and the grocery store, Flavor Flav at Wal Mart and the bowling alley, and Nick Cage at the gym and the Japanese restaurant. All 3 of these guys were very nice and would talk to you no problem. Nick Cage pretty much likes to be left alone but he's nice about it.

I wouldn't piss on Bruce Willis if he was on fire.

Edit: Desertw0lf and I live fairly close to Floyd Mayweather. He's exactly the way you think he would be.

I grew up less than 4 miles from "Hardcore Pawn" (American Jewelry & Loan). It's a complete ghetto shithole. Went in there a couple years ago and didn't see anyone from the show. They have enough fur coats to give all of PETA a heart attack simultaneously.

Only redeeming quality is that it's in walking distance of White Castle.
