"No Way Out" with Kevin Costner has the most surprising ending of any movie that I have ever seen. I was rooting for Costners character the whole movie and at the end of the movie I hated myself for not realizing that he was the enemy. Is there a movie with a more surprise ending?

Let me rephrase my question. I'm not looking for a movie that merely has a surprise ending. Those are a dime a dozen. Is there another movie where you spend the entire movie rooting for what is revealed at the end of the movie to be the antagonist, and you think to yourself "how could I have been so fucking stupid"?

Not probably exactly what you're looking for, but the end of Godfather II. When they're about ready to throw Michael out of the family because he joined the Marines, you see what a bunch of scrumbags they all were.

Fuck The Mist.

They took a pretty good, classic Stephen King story and fucked the ending all the way to hell and back.

In the book Click To View Spoiler, but no...they have to make a worse ending for the movie.

The ending of the novella sucked. It didn't really have an ending, it just... ended. Heck, even Stephen King liked the ending of the movie better.

The "bad" ending was on purpose-they wanted to end it in a way that would prevent a shitty sequel. Remember Pet Sematary 2? People would bitch about a happy ending in a Stephen King movie too, this prevents a bad sequel. The possibility of it ending that way was also suggested in the original story, there's a line something like "when the time comes I'll find another way for myself". Take it as a warning to never give up, the character did and look what happened.
