Shawshank Redemption.

I saw the Green Mile before I saw Shawshank and was totally expecting a depressing ending.

"No Way Out" with Kevin Costner has the most surprising ending of any movie that I have ever seen. I was rooting for Costners character the whole movie and at the end of the movie I hated myself for not realizing that he was the enemy. Is there a movie with a more surprise ending?

Great movie.
He walks up to Sean Young and says "You're so impressed with me right now" then swaggers off.

The look on her face was perfect.

Let me rephrase my question. I'm not looking for a movie that merely has a surprise ending. Those are a dime a dozen. Is there another movie where you spend the entire movie rooting for what is revealed at the end of the movie to be the antagonist, and you think to yourself "how could I have been so fucking stupid"?

Really good movie.  Every time I watch it I'm amazed at how well written and original the story is.  The DVD has a great commentary track with the writer.

"Looking for Mr. Goodbar". Everyone in the theater sat in disbelief as the credits rolled back in the '70's, now it would probably be no big deal.

This is a great movie, that does get the praise it deserves. You really have to watch it several times to appreciate what it accomplishes and the finer points of the movie.

Arlington Road STILL pisses me off, and I've only seen it once, soon after it came out.
