1st offense.... $5,000 fine and 1-year suspension.
2nd offense.... death penalty. Actually, I'd like to see that sentencing protocol applied to a long list of felonies - white collar crimes included. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice.... DIE MOTHERFUCKER. We hear the phrase "lengthy criminal history" too often these days. And it's associated with a rape or a murder or the fleecing of investors WAY too often. |

I see at least two or three a day of the "ID ONLY -- NOT A LICENSE TO OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE" photo IDs that TN issues to those with suspended/revoked licenses. Damn near all of them drive here. Revoking licenses won't keep them from driving. Now if states passed a law that says anyone who is accused of DUII gets the vehicle they were driving seized and held pending out come of the charge (REGARDLESS OF WHO OWNS IT) then people would be much more careful. Other folks wouldn't loan out their vehicles, and people wouldn't give car loans to anyone who had a prior duii. If someone passes a breath test, and the field sobriety test, they wouldn't even be charged.
If they are convicted, the vehicle, and everything in it, or attached to it automatically is forfeit to the state. Something like that would really frighten people into better (although not complete) compliance. Nothing else seems to work. |

fuck that, that's not harsh enough. i work in claims for an insurance company, weekly i get at least one claim where someone is out driving around with out a license. they dont give a fuck. a lot of time it's the illegals from down south too.
i think they should get a choice. you lose a hand or you can go to jail for 3 months. no getting out early, no plea bargin, no good behavior, none of that bullshit. everyone always says that the punishment should fit the crime, i think it should far exceed it. |

Some countries do fines as a percentage of income which I think would be a good idea here. 10% of your annual income would be a pretty stout fine regardless if you make minimum wage or you are Bill Gates.
