ETA - added caliber

ETA 2 - Order placed at 15:24 - ship notice received with tracking number @ 18:02

Is that the recalled Speer GoldDots that had a gel in the cavity?

I intended to post this in the Handgun Ammo section; I had multiple windows open and fumbled the ball.

I did find this thread in the Handgun Ammo section http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_5_20/167189_Speer_147_gr_HP_for_training_only.html and the same G2 comments but I fail to see a single confirmation from a purchase.

With that said - considering the price it probably is recall G2 and I will know soon enough.

FWIW -  I did order the 10,000 SR primers and 18lbs of powder so the day was not a total loss. ( 1- eight and 2 fives )

My apologies and Have a Great Day

I ordered mine from Surplus Ammo when it was on sale for $249.99/1000.  Still available here for $289.99:

http://www.surplusammo.com/9mm-147-grain-gdhp-saa-personal-protection-1000-rds-bulk-new/

It has the polymer drop (so it is G2) and is dated 2014 on the case.  Still, not a bad deal at $.30/round!

So I bought some of the 147gr Speer from MassAmmo.  The rounds have the polymer filling as shown in the pic above and have a headstamp of 2015.  I shot 2 rounds into a 55 gallon barrel of water and here are the results:

The one on the left was fired through a CZ Scorpion with a 7.72" barrel.  The one on the right through an HK compact with a 3.58" barrel.  The left expanded to 11/16" out of the Scorpion which was about 1/32" larger than the right from the shorter barreled HK.

It's the 4 layers of denim that caused the no-go.  Bullet works great as long as there is no barrier.

Magnum PI?

I would like to know who wears more than one layer of denim these days?  I guess maybe if you hit a pocket just right or a seam on a pair of jeans, it could be three layers of denim.

I shot 2 more rounds through 4 layers of denim with the same expansion results as the first 2 into water without a barrier.  I suspended the denim above the water for one shot and let the denim rest on top of the water for the second.  Judging by the holes expansion began immediately with the denim in contact with the water.  Expansion began after the bullet passed through the denim that was suspended above it on the other shot.  This was a completely UNSCIENTIFIC experiment, more or less.  There are supposedly 2 versions of the G2 ammo with the newer version expanding correctly.  These rounds appear to be the newer version by looks and expansion.  YMMV.

Here is a ballistic gel test, using FBI protocol of 4 layers of denim.  You can judge for yourself.  This test was repeated by other testers, and the result is the ammo being sold in bulk.  The ammo is a great deal, and it works most of the time.  Cops want it to work more than most of the time, though.

The old version is what is for sale in bulk.  The new version has a different skive pattern.  The old version is being sold as "training ammunition".

Anyone know of an ammo comparison site (like ammoseek, gunbot, etc) that works on a mobile device? I was at a local gun show and had a heck of a time comparing prices on my phone to what the vendors were offering.

Ammoseek has an app that you can download that makes looking up prices on a mobile device 100x easier than using their website

Yea their downloadable app does make it a lot easier, no more constant re-sizing. Anyone using anything else that works quickly???

I did not see this code when I ordered 2 cans on 5/27.  My order has not shipped so I emailed them asking if I could claim this.  I called, but they must be closed for the holiday.

That was my presumption based on my own limited personal knowledge.  With all the positive posts about it I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some key point.

It was mentioned in another thread, but I didn't see it here.

This PerFecta .308 150gr SP ammo is on clearance at Wal-Mart for $7.00/20.  Brass cased.

Even if it's still marked at the old price of $15.84, have them scan it.  Every Wal-Mart where I found it was $7.00/box.

Not my video, but it was all I could find for a good image.

Pretty sure the other thread I mentioned, an Arfcommer bought it for the $7.00 clearance price at a Wal-Mart in Virginia.

I picked up 560 rds in the last week.  Most of it had the $15.84 price on the shelf, but when they scanned it, voila, $7.00.

I went to my local wal-mart after work and they only had the 147gr perfecta... for $12.xx a box. No 150gr. And here is the kicker. They were still enforcing 3 boxes of ammo per customer.

edit;  I went to a different walmart today and they had three boxes left. They were marked for $15.xx a box but rang up for $7. Thanks for the tip.
