I had such a good time at the last one, I will be heading back up this weekend again.

Good to here Gunnut!
We're actually going to be providing two Remington 2 3/4" Slugger .12 ga. slugs per shooter, but if you feel like you might want more or have your shotgun sighted in for something else, by all means bring what you like. If any other ARF.commer wants to try his or her hand at the shotgun side match, just bring out a box of birdshot (#6 or smaller size) and I'll loan you the use of my Remington M870 Police to shoot. Hope to see everyone there! |

Well, had another great shoot. There were three very well thought out and challenging handgun stages and the shotgun stage went well if I do say so myself.....
VAGunnut made it down and brought another ARF.commer and Kogashuko made it out as well. Allways good to see the bretheren out shooting. I want to thank VA-gunnut and Templar for helping me on my first time out. Good job Tim on the shotgun match.
It is a great way to learn some gun-handling skill that are often overlooked. I carry often and this is good training for real world situations. (OK the six swinging headshots were pushing it ) I urge you to make it out to the match if you can. |
PVFD, it was great to see you out there.
This stuff is kind of addicting, isn't it? Next month I'm designing a rifle side match, so bring out your AR, AK, FAL, M1-A, what ever, and have some more fun. I'll also try integrating some pistol stuff into it as well. I'd like to do a 3 Gun match every month, but that's too much work, so I am making myself happy with 2 Gun matches! |
Wish one of these was going on when I was back home on leave. From what I've heard you guys have a great setup.
Even though it was a little warm, I think everyone had a good time. It was also good to see some other faces from the board again.nI am already looking forward to the next one. Hopefully it will be cooler next month.
Cliffy, the match will be on August 24th!!!
We had to move it up a week because most of the safety officers will be in W.Va for their State IDPA match on the 31st. This is the only month at Cavalier that the match is NOT the last week end of the month. Again, the match in August is on Sunday the 24th. Hope to see you guys out there! |
Is it possible to shoot just the side match?
I probably will not be out of work till 1am and will need to be in at 2pm tomarrow. |
Koga, i honestly don't know, but it would probably be OK. Plan on getting there at 9:30 and you can shoot the whole course and be out of there by 11:00 max.
Today turned out to be a beautiful day for a competition. I think I did pretty well, but I won't know until they post the scores.
Sadly, I shot my SAR-2 better then my AR in the Rifle match. |
Here are the results for 9/24/03.
I had to go home early and could not shoot, so it was a little disapointing for me in that respect, but I was glad to see everyone out, we had a lot of people. VA Gunnut did great in the side match with both his AR and his AK, he was more accurate with his AK-74, but was a smidgin faster with the AR and it was VERY close between the two. Does that mean that all stages are limited, or is he talking about something else? I wish I could have made it...it's been a while since I've been able to make a match. |
Chim, he's talking about someone who doesn't want to do a magazine change with retention or a tactical magazine change, and instead, blows ammo downrange so that he can reload from slide lock, which is considered "gaming".
I was wondering where you've been man! |
Wish I coulda made it out. My 9am - 1230am shift about killed me so I elected not to come out when I had to be back in again at 2pm the next day. Oh well, I will be practicing all three for rolling thunder in november. I think that it will be cool because I feel I am doing much better now. After my match tonight I am begining to get much more used to the matches. For example, I feel I am able to shoot the targets without a long concentrated aim and fire like I had in the past. It is more a thing where I am using the sights to help but not do all the work. If anyone knows what I am saying.
I realize Templar is out of the country right now, but is anybody else planning on going this week? Is it still on? I have this Sunday off and was planning on making the drive.
Shotgun side match right? |
I haven't heard if the day has been cancelled or not. I am planning on going this Sunday. I doubt there will be any side match this time, because they are supposed to be running their classifier instead.
Oh crap, is this the classifier? I haven't shot IDPA since the last one in the snow and sleet where I totally lost my friggin' head and botched it. Oh well, now is my chance to redeem myself out of the Marksman category.
Yeah, this is the qualifier. This will be my first one, so I am curious how I will make out in the end. I should be getting there between 9:30 and 10:00. I hope to see you there.
Today was another great day for shooting. I had a good time, even if I am upset at my self. I shot the classifier twice. I needed to shoot below a 120 do get the expert classification, and on my first try I shot a 123.27 and then a 120.41. I guess I will just have to live with being a Sharpshooter for now.
Hey, I'm just glad to be Sharpshooter. The last time we did this was in the sleet and snow and I totally lost me head and ended up Marksman.
This time was much better. At 136, I'm Sharpshooter and fairly happy. I've been trying to overcome a flinch and mostly succeeded. I did have 4 complete misses and at least one of them was due to severe flinch. I also had my first ever failure to eject with me 1911. In 14 years of owning the gun, it has NEVER jammed until Sunday. I cleared it quickly enough that it didn't have a big impact on my score. Did you ever get the results? |

Welcome home Tim! Did you happen to notice the DSA group buy on the Files? I'll be expecting a call from you this coming week when my Type 2 arrives. I have a problem don't I?

Guys, the rifle side match for Oct. 26 will be a true side match, it will not be another stage for IDPA. This means that you can shoot the IDPA match and then shoot the rifle stage and it will run much more smoothly and quickly than it may have compared to the past couple of times.
Hope to see you guys out there! Tim |

Unfortunately I won't be able to make this one. Is the club having a 3-gun in Nov.?

Missed alot of you guys out there today, but we had a great time anyway, even though the pistol stages were reduced to two instead of three by some unfriendly yellow jackets!
The rifle side match was short an uncompicated, and was actually geared toward being M1 Garand "friendly", meaning if you brought an old warhorse out you could have been "competitive". One guy did, and while he was slower than a lot of other guys, he was hyper accurate and I sure as hell wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of that Garand. Lots of AR-15's in people's hands today. The next runner up as far as type of rifle used were AK's and FAL's. My three rifles are all iron sights, although optics were allowed this time if you wanted to use them. Thanks for the support from all the shooters and thanks to all the Safety Officer staff who make this program work. I hope everyone enjoyed the IDPA matches at Cavalier and next year we will start on January 25, 2004. On November 30, 2003 we will shoot ROLLING THUNDER 2003. Registration for this great match is almost full. It is a lot of fun to watch even if you do not compete. Thanks again for another great year. T. White [email protected] 804-553-1179 |

The first IDPA match of 2004 at Cavalier Rifle and Pistol will also have a Shotgun side match.
Bring a .12 gauge with you, and about 20 rounds of 00 buckshot. I don't care if you use low recoil 9 pellet, standard 9 pellet, 12 pellet 2 3/4" mag, or 15 pellet 3" mag, but it must be 00 buck. Also, a minimum of 2 slugs will be needed. The IDPA match will require at least 50 rounds of pistol ammo, minimum. Look foward to seeing you guys out there Sunday the 25th, which is the last Sunday of the month. Cavalier's website: www.cavrpc.org/idpa.htm There is a map there to help you guys get out and shoot. Email me with any questions, ok? |

Ok, the first match of 2004 was a cold one, but we had fun anyway!
The shotgun side match was 00 Buck and slugs, and I think it showed alot of people that yes Virginia, you CAN miss with a shotgun at defensive distances. Slim Hazy showed up after working all night and helped out a lot. Hope to see him back some more, along with all the rest of you guys! Next month we're having a rifle side match, so come on out and get shooting! Here are the scores from 01/25/04. Yeah, so I drove up to this shoot at Cavalier. Templar was there, along with VA Road King (?) and about two dozen other guys. I felt like Ralphie in A Christmas Story I had some many layer on and I was still gold. "Tactical" gloves seem like a good idea, but I don't remember seeing anyone that didn't take theirs off to shoot, even the BlackHawk and Hellstorm ones I saw. I tried the shotgun stage with my CVC gloves on but couldn't feel anything. I took them off and still managed to drop a round of OO buck on the ground during the reload.
Pistol was equally miserable; I missed more than half of the small plates, but once I figured out I was acutally about 8" high (WTF?) at 20yds I got a few. A few LL: Chokes ruled the shotgun stage. Barrel length didn't seem to matter as much. My OO buck spread about 1"/yd, quite a lot at 20-30 yds. Some sort of sights are key. Other than the one guy who told me he could make head shots with slugs at 25yds (yep, he did - 20" barrel w/bead) most people that appeared to have done this before had rifle sights, a vent rib, or those fiber-optic ones. Switching ammo in mid-fight is tough to keep track of. A few guys loaded the correct sequence of slug/buck in the magazine tube, and then moved around cover in the opposite direction. I did a reload each time I changed ammo, and remembered what I had even if it took forever. Pen ink freezes; Sharpies don't. I have no idea what division or class I am, I think everyone was too cold to care at the time. Certainly some things to consider before the 3-gun match at the BRD in April. |

Slim, since you haven't Classified in rank yet, you would be considered a "Novice" at a big shoot, but we actually start everyone off at "Marksman".
The ranks and abbreviations go like this: Master=MA Expert=EX Sharp Shooter=SS Marksman=MM Novice=NOV There are 4 divisions for handguns in IDPA. Stock Service=standard double action medium calibered semi auto's like Glocks, Beretta's, SIG's, CZ-75's with the hammer down to start. Calibers for Stock Service are 9mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, .38 Super. Enhanced Service Pistol=single action semi auto's of medium caliber, like Browning Hi Powers, CZ-75's carried cocked and locked, H&K P7's, M1911's in medium calibers, Springfield Armory XD's. Same calibers allowed as the Stock Service Pistol. Custom Defensive Pistol=ANY .45ACP, including M1911's, SIG P220's, Glock 21's. Stock Service Revolver=ANY double action revolver with a barrel length 4" or less. Hopefully it won't be as cold in February, but who knows. I'm going to be introducing some new Classifications for the long gun side matches, like Open Rifle, Stock Service Rifle, Open Semi-Auto Shotgun, Stock Pump Shotgun, etc.... Thanks again for coming out Slim, hope you had a great time even freezing. |

I'm assuming this is on for this weekend right? Rifle side match as well?
Yes on both counts Cliffy, but I won't be running the rifle stage, too many things going on in my life right now.
I should be out there shooting though! |
Is their a match for March? I may be able to make it down and try something new out. I live in Centerville in NoVA.
John |
Yep, we are having our Classifier the last Sunday of March, which is where you come out and get classified in your division.
Here is the 2004 Schedule for Cavalier R&P IDPA: www.cavrpc.org/IDPA%202004.htm And a map to Cavalier: |
I'm planning on making it out to this one. I am hoping to bring some newbies out too.
No side match on the 28th? I enjoyed the shotgun one in the cold. I'd have to come straight from work again, but it might be worth it to shoot pistol and a long gun too.
Nope, no side match Slim, the Classifier is a 90 round stage and it is hard to do that and a side match, especially if we get a lot of people trying to classify.
Here's the schedule for 2004. www.cavrpc.org/IDPA%202004.htm |

I'm guessing Tim is a little busy so I will post the results this month. There were a lot of people out this time so there was a little bit of wait. The weather was great so we had a good time anyway.

I miss the monthly and weekly matches. I am trying to get my hands on an ACOG TA31F and going to do a lot of dry fire practice here for the rifle (along with some live but I wouldnt call it practice.) I just need to get my hands of an Airsoft 1911 here to practice pistol. They dont allow the real thing here so I guess I will have to do something to keep the practice up. Anyone know of anywhere that has cheap 1911 airsofts that will ship to an APO?

This weekend's Match (April 25) will not be the standard IDPA match, but will be the Glock GSSF match at Cavalier.
Next month will be a standard IDPA match at Cavalier and it will include a shotgun side match, with at least 12 slugs needed. |
12 Slugs? I think I need to find some reduced recoil slugs for that one. |
The shotgun side match will be within 20 yards or so for the slugs, so reduced recoil slugs probably won't handicap you, but you are really going to want to know how your gun shoots them, alot of low recoil slugs will shoot low if you've sighted in your gun for standard slugs.
Not trying to anyone up, but we're always looking to make things interesting. We're tentatively thinking about doing a standard IPSC/IDPA "El Presidente", but with shotgun slugs instead of pistol. There may also be a section where standard birdshot is also used. Should be a great time for everyone. |

It seems like there will be a few ARFCOM members going this month. How about we try to meet out there at the same time? Kind of a mini ARFCOM gathering.
Works for us. We'll be getting there around 9am. |
No better time then now! |
I'm going to send you an email for some info. I'm real interested into getting started. |
