My latest email from Cavalier states that 3 boxes of slug would be needed for the Shotgun match. I wonder how many brave people we'll get for the shotgun match.

I'm looking forward to this match and seeing everyone out there.

I had a good time today and it was great to see everyone from ARFCOM who made it out. Now I just have to wait and see how I did.

Don't complain too loudly......it means you get to shoot for free at the next match!

Hope you and 9x19 had a good time, it was great seeing you there.

It was great fun, free is always GOOD!  Bonnie loved it, now she knows why I like IDPA so much.  Well hopefully I can make the next one, I don't know how fast they'll take to get the surgery their going to do (I'll be in the Hospital a few days and in a neck brace 6 weeks ).  I'm shooting in the classifier at Black Creek on the 12th, going to do CDP and SSP.

That was the first match I've been to in quite a "long" while and I had a blast. I'll be there more often now, and Tim my firing pin stayed where it was supposed to this time "in the gun", heh heh. Thanks to Sam and Tim for gettin' me back out!

Templar,

How many rounds will be needed for the carbine side match this month?  I have 3 other people that are going to use my M4gery so I need to know so I bring enough ammo.  I'll bring my FAL too.

TIA

Not too bad, came in 11th in SSP (Beretta 92 Elite) and 3rd in CDP (Ernest Langdon 220ST).  I think my 92 Elite needs a new slide stop, its not locking back after the mag is empty (it did that to me at the range too) on Saturday a few times and costed my 3 seconds on the SSP 3rd stage when in went forward empty and I had to rack the slide to chamber and round when I thought there was already one in there.

That was a lot of fun. I am glad that I didnt lose too much from not shooting a handgun for 6 months.

I got to fire my 1911 that had word done on it and am happy with it. I also got to fire one stage with my sig before it sucked up lint that looked like a chewed up shrek 2 ticket (note to self to clean sig mags that stay in pocket.) Finally, it was nice to fire the carbine in a tactical course where the targets were not shooting back.

Anyway, the sig fired great last night at the range. I can imagine that 220st langdon special mentioned earlier is fast if this little 229 fires the way it does with only part of the mods on it and half the size and weight.

It was fun as always and I will be catching you all again in about 7 months.

I have been looking at the perfect thing for those side matches when I get back. I have been looking at the 6.8rem spc and it would seem pretty simple to setup an AR with that. I would get the desired bigger hole in the target and better performance with those traps with plastic Templar likes to setup. Only thing I got to do is wait for them to start mass producing the ammo to the public oh yeh and get out of iraq.

Guys, don't be intimidated by the idea of shooting the Commonwealth Cups, it's just a big match and people are only competeing against other shooters in their classification and division.

Novice and Marksman are welcome!!

Hey, at the Cavalier classifier I just moved from Marksman to Sharpshooter in ESP.....

by a very, very wide (ahem, 3-second) margin.....

(but anyway) using my CZ75B which I'm gonna bring to the Cups and kick some butt !!!

.......probably my own

So, y'all come on out and see yahoo's like me totally humiliate themselves. We'll be EZ-2-beet !!!

Isn't it true that in IDPA you're never moved down in classification? Despite how you might do in any number of later classifiers? Not sure I ever understood the thinking on that.....

Anyway, glad I made my goal of getting ESP-SS (even if only by 3 seconds) in time for the Cups. I'll be a lot smaller fish in a somewhat larger bowl.

Is the light railed Wilson CQB legal for IDPA?

Is this month the carbine side match?

Quoted:
As I understand the Rule Book, NO, no light rail 1911 is legal, as it adds weight to the dust cover.

This only covers 1911's in .45 ACP, those shooting Custom Defensive.

This from the Latest Rule Book:

"NON-INCLUSIVE list of EXCLUDED modifications:

·                    Heavy barrels, cone barrels (over 4.2”) and/or barrel sleeves (factory or aftermarket)

·                    Porting of barrels

·                    Compensators

·                    Add-on weights, weighted magazines, tungsten guide rods, extended dust covers

·                    Sights of non-standard notch and post configuration

·                    Extended oversize magazine release buttons

·                    Trigger shoes "

So....there ya go.

Dam that sucks. Looks like I should have ordered a non-light railed CQB.

A call probably will be necessary.  I consider the light rails to be extended, weighted dust covers....pick up a Kimber TLE II with rail and a standard TLE II and you will immediately feel the difference in weight.

I think that this is one of the things that they are addressing with the new rule book that is long overdue.  I personally don't think that it should be a problem to use the light railed 1911's, but the guys that started IDPA were so intent on it not turning into IPSC with the special weighted "race gun" 1911's, that they eliminated a whole lot of guns without meaning too.  All the new Glocks and a lot of Berettas and SIGs have light rails, but on these guns, they don't extend the dustcover any and they don't add a whole lot of weight (except for the stainless SIG's, but a lot of that is because they are using stainless steel frames rather than aluminum).

I'm certainly not the final word on this, but I will tell you that if you showed up with a light railed 1911 at a local match, it probably wouldn't be much of an issue, but at a major regional match, it would be.

I'm just going to go ahead and give the IDPA a call tomorrow. Thanks for all your help.

Did you get any word from IDPA Headquarters?

I called the IDPA and was told Joyce had just got out of the hospital and to call back on Monday. I also called Wilson Combat directly. I was told the Wilson CQB w/light rail is too heavy for both the SSP (Stock Service Pistol Division) and CDP (Custom Defensive Pistol Division). The weight limit is 41 oz. with an unloaded mag installed in the pistol for CDP. Wilson told me one trick to make the CQB legal is to remove the extended mag well for competition in the CDP class. This removes just enough weight to keep the pistol legal and is no big deal. IDPA divisions and rules are very new to me and at the moment I'm very confused. I'm going to call the IDPA back Monday as instructed to get this straight.

You could probably remove some metal from the frame under the grips too.

The last time I shot a match up at Cavalier was 10+ years ago.

Did they change matches from IPSC to IDPA?

What holster rigs are currently allowable?
Are you still allowed to use the other ranges after the match?

thanks
