You would have to go  really wide.

Holy crap that thing is expensive for what it does.  I'd bet if you loaded it with 5 and 10lb plates it would swing ok, it'd be narrow enough to not require you to squat down each swing.
Rogue, NY Barbell, MDUSA all have nice wide handles.  Even the Walmart ones have a pretty good handle.  Just stay away from CAP for sure, not sure of other brands that suck.

I'm now 1/2 way through the 10,000 swings.  I was supposed to have a rest day today but since I was 250 swings behind I just did those without any weight lifting and did a short, slow run.

It's boring but I'll finish it.  Especially boring when I can't do a lot of the heavy lifting I'd like to, yesterday I did 50 of the ab-wheels and that has me pretty sore today.  Next week I'll work in some 50lb goblet squats and see how the knee likes them and maybe some slightly heavier squats the week after that.

Just be awkward.

I just wrap my hand around it all the way.

Yeah. I'd rather go with the weird grip on the bell than that thing. That thing looks like an injury waiting to happen. Besides, after 2,000 swings or so, you get used to it.

Stop dieing.

I did 6 sets of 50. Then I got bored and ran 2 half miles.

This was after deads, and rows.

Yeah...Lift and twist is dumb.  Knew it was gonna happen.  Did it anyway.

Using one hand at a time makes it easier to use dumbbells to swing them.  The solid ones work better for this because they're smaller diameter.

You can also secure a bit of webbing around one side of a dumbbell, grip the webbing, and that orients it to make it easier to swing.

Or you could just do dumbbell snatches.

Fucking Dan John, I cussed him many times doing overhead squats.  Evil genius bastard.

The swings are getting really boring, especially since I can't supplement with any lower body work for another two weeks which is the end of the 10k.  I've decided to make it a race just to keep my head in it, I'm trying to complete all 500 swings and 100 supplemental lifts inside 30min.  To make it I'd have to shave 1:30-2:00 off each set and not take a break between them.  On smaller lifts like dips and back extensions I think I might be able to get it.

Today I tried goblet squats with the 50lb bell just to see how the knee would like it.  It was ok, hurt some near the end but just uncomfortable, not really pain.  Glad I didn't try heavier front squats.  I also tried to not set the bell on the ground for the entire set, go straight from swings to squats to swings.  That sucked, I didn't make it very far

I also ran 2.5mi on the treadmill.  When I started this I was WAY out of shape from just focusing on my squat, but in 3 weeks I've gone from fighting for a mile after swings to breezing through 2.5.  Great conditioning exercise.

Ballsy. I like rests. I can usually knock out the 10, 15, and 25 swings and lifts in a row for the first three sets, but by 400 and 500, my old ass needs a little time. After Friday's workout, I did two sets of 10 calisthenic Tabata intervals with the wife. Heart rate went up, but I never got winded. I am digging the conditioning, too.

Breaking 30:00 is going to be tough.

Today I did the swings with 50 165# bench press and 50 105# strict press and I felt like I was pushing really hard, only a 3:30 rest which was what it took to strip the bench and wash it, then find a bar and set up for strict.  Finished it in 40:34.

Dang.  That's a full 10 minutes to shave in 10 days or so.  Other lifts are simply faster, but still.  Ten minutes....

I'd better plan on two scoops of C4 that day

I also did two miles on the treadmill, those are getting really easy.

Kicked off week 5 this morning.  Home stretch!  Working harder this week too...I swapped in my 45 lb bell for the second and fourth sets of swings and used my 55 lb one for the goblet squats.  Still finished in 45 minutes even using the heavier ones.  Even in four weeks I've dropped body fat and my endurance and grip are much improved.

I pushed about as hard as I could today, made a new PR for both one set and overall, but I'm still nearly 8 minutes off my goal.  That's a lot to make up in 10 days or so.  Lifts today were pull-ups and 45lb back extensions, which are about the fastest lifts I can do too.

Just tell him ammo so he doesn't suspect the worst- that you're a crossfitter.

I'm home this week and there's a 208lb-er here.  As soon as the crossfit class it out I'll try it.  Keep an eye out for the rehab go fund me.

ETA- I tried it.  I did 5 swings but only got them about to a 45 degree angle to the ground, so maybe half way up.  It might be good for sumo lifts or something, but I really don't see the value in owning one that big.

Oh yes, endurance and conditioning are much improved.  My grip is stronger.  I didn't take any "before" weight or measurements but I dropped some body fat...my pants are loose on me and I can see a little more definition here and there.

I tried the "Reign in Blood Challenge" today.

1. Put on Slayer's Reign in Blood.

2. Try to do the workout in 28:58, the total run time of the album.

3. Did very strict pull ups and finished in 33:23, thought my heart would explode, got dizzy, almost puked.

4. Can't wait to make another run.

Soooooooo close!

If I left out the rest I missed it by 8 seconds, but really I missed it by just over two and a half minutes.

250 swings with 50 165lb bench presses followed by 250 swings with 50 105lb strict presses.  Still feeling a bit jelly-armed.  The bigger handle on the 55lb kettlebell is far easier to swing than the 50lb-er with smaller handle, but I'm getting gassed faster at 6,000ft than I do at 600ft elevation.  I need to spend more time at home, I'm getting altitude headaches when I visit the family.

Thanks, but apparently it was a one-time deal.  I came down with a stomach bug last night and missed my flight out of town, went to bed early and slept in, then decided I wanted to try the gym anyway since I don't want to get 500 swings behind on a week where I still need to travel.  My first set was with 185lb front squats, 20lbs lighter than I usually use and it took me just over 30 minutes to complete it.  Then a 10 minute rest and 25 minutes to complete the next set with pull ups.  At least I'm not behind for the week.

Hey KaiK, have you tried the big clean complex again lately?  It seems like a good barometer of conditioning.  I should have timed myself on it 5 weeks ago and logged which weights I used so I could compare after the 10KKB.  I'll try to squeak the big clean complex in this weekend or early next week.  I didn't even wear knee sleeves today for my front squats and the knee feels awesome, so it's time to get back to cleans and those spastic barbell throws that I call a snatch.

BEAST MODE. Awesome.

Not for a couple of weeks. Last time I ran out of gas on 135#. Probably the diet.

Speaking of diet, another one of you Louisiana arfcommers (Midcap) sent me a package the other day with some Slap Yo Mama and Tony Chachere's.  Haven't tried the SYM yet, but Tony's is really good stuff.  I tried it on my chicken and rice last night.  Probably going to have eggs and sausage for lunch and put some on it.
