Speaking of diet, another one of you Louisiana arfcommers (Midcap) sent me a package the other day with some Slap Yo Mama and Tony Chachere's. Haven't tried the SYM yet, but Tony's is really good stuff. I tried it on my chicken and rice last night. Probably going to have eggs and sausage for lunch and put some on it. Still feeling a bit jelly-armed. The bigger handle on the 55lb kettlebell is far easier to swing than the 50lb-er with smaller handle, but I'm getting gassed faster at 6,000ft than I do at 600ft elevation. I need to spend more time at home, I'm getting altitude headaches when I visit the family. BEAST MODE. Awesome. Thanks, but apparently it was a one-time deal. I came down with a stomach bug last night and missed my flight out of town, went to bed early and slept in, then decided I wanted to try the gym anyway since I don't want to get 500 swings behind on a week where I still need to travel. My first set was with 185lb front squats, 20lbs lighter than I usually use and it took me just over 30 minutes to complete it. Then a 10 minute rest and 25 minutes to complete the next set with pull ups. At least I'm not behind for the week. Hey KaiK, have you tried the big clean complex again lately? It seems like a good barometer of conditioning. I should have timed myself on it 5 weeks ago and logged which weights I used so I could compare after the 10KKB. I'll try to squeak the big clean complex in this weekend or early next week. I didn't even wear knee sleeves today for my front squats and the knee feels awesome, so it's time to get back to cleans and those spastic barbell throws that I call a snatch. Did you ever try the 200# one? Yeah, it's really not suitable for swings. I did 4 or 5 swings and only got it about half way to parallel. It might be interesting to do sumo high pulls or something with it, but for the most part it collects dust. It even sucks for suitcase carries, too big around and hits my knees. |

I don't think you need to get something that big to parallel. Just the fact that you get it going is good enough. At least that's what I read in the super heavy kettlebell blog article I found. |

I've never tried more than 200 from the floor, I might be able to rack it by now, but I'm not going to try till I can end up on my ass and bleeding in privacy I can probably front squat around 300, so my clean is REALLY sloppy and lagging. Hand/grip strength and wrist flexibility is a huge part of it, I can now keep a full grip on the bar in the rack position, I couldn't do that before the swings. I was stretching really well when the forearms were tight. |

Yeah if you can FS 300# you can clean way more than me, especially since I have been going backwards on all my lifts.

Just got into these swings, they're pretty fun... at least at the weight I'm doing. Started with the 44lb, but looking to move it up. For those that have climbed the ladder, would you suggest moving to the 53 or straight to the 62 (or higher)? I have a tendency to overdue things before the tendons and ligaments have a chance to catch up... I was doing one arm swings with the 44 and man, that felt great. I'm definitely enjoying the variation, thanks for posting and keeping this thread alive to inspire.

I'd like to have a 70lb-er now that I'm done, but I think they are pretty scalable anyway. For example, if you've only got a 44lb then you can do get-ups, one arm swings, cleans, etc. You can also focus on longer sets and go for speed compared to swinging the bigger ones where you swing slower and fewer. In other words, you can make life suck with the 44, 55 or pretty much any of them. I'll eventually own a selection of them I think. Probably not the 208lb one, that's a bit stupid. |

I did a few single arm 62# swings switching hands at the top. That was murdered on the hands.

|
Finished on Saturday. Best time was 30:13. Couldn't beat the Reign in Blood challenge of 28:58, but I am going to rotate the workout into my weekly program. It got boring as hell near the end. Used the 55# bell. Going to get a 62/65# and see how that goes. Definitely much improved conditioning. Maybe I lost a little fat, I don't know. I'm 6'2" and fluctuate between 175/180 and weighed in at 178 on Sunday. Then I ate Super Bowl food and had beer. Oh well. Cool workout and well worth the effort.
ETA: I did this because I tore a disc at L4/L5 back in March of 2015. No deads, squats, or axial spinal loads of any kind for eight months. It was a bummer. This workout really helped me strengthen my core and I am going to very slowly bring deads and squats back into the routine. I am not a beast like the rest of you dudes and only started lifting about two years ago. Best dead was 315 and best squat was 205 with the goal of a two plate. Going to start with the bar and light bumper plates and go slow, slow, slow to focus on form. |
|
And I am......DONE!!!
Finished in 4 weeks and two days. Feels good to be done. Helped my core a bunch, and upper body strength too. I lost a little waist, but overall condition is better. Glad to be done. |

Any of you guys have any lower back problems with this? I'm not sure if swinging fucked up my lower back or if I did something else, but I could barely get out of bed for 3 weeks and then I'd spend an hour stretching so I could do anything. Today was the first day I've been able to get back into a workout and I did a p90x workout. Feel good still.
Been to the chiro twice a week since it got bad and going again tomorrow. I never noticed anything during the workouts, but woke up one day and couldn't move. Only got to about 4000 swings. |

I found that when the weight was always on my heels, no matter where I was in the swing, I had no problems. When I felt the weight bearing on the ball of my feet, I was using my lower back as the hinge point and not my hips and there was pain. My lower back sucks (see above) and I finished the whole workout and feel great now. No problems. Hope this helps. |

View Quote It was hard at first...all those swings made my lower back really tight and I needed a lot of yoga and stretching to promote recovery. Not the same as injury though, and it didn't take too long before I was recovering much quicker even as I was working in heavier bells. I've had back problems in the past though, (almost 40 year old broad with arthritis and degenerative disk disease) so I'm careful about weights and form...I don't go all KaiK right out of the box, LOL. |

OK. So even though I finished the workout last week, not meeting the Reign in Blood Challenge of 28:58 or less was boring into my head like that little sand lobster thing that Khan inserted into Ensign Chekov's ear in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Today, that little sand lobster is dead and has fallen out of my ear. I finished it in 27:43 with 50 bench presses with a buck twenty five on the barbell as the strength exercise. Then did a 5x5 bench set at 165. http://ih0.redbubble.net/image.88039819.8707/flat,1000x1000,075,f.jpg View Quote Niiiiiice. That's really hustling to get done that fast. |
