Because no one reads tacked threads. Far better to BUMP it.

We strike tomorrow.

This is a good law and public support should be heard.

I called early.

It will be taken up next year at the earliest.

The man on the phone for the subcomittee on crime, terrorism and homeland was very nice.

I will call tomorrow too.

This is excellent! We must push for this tomorrow. I'm trying to let as many people know as possible. BTW, is there an e-mail address we could use tonight, and then call tomorrow? I mean some people may not be able to place a bunch of phonecalls but could fire of a few e-mails. I assume that would be helpful as well. If someone posted an e-mail contact already, I probably missed it but the thread needed a bump anyways.

I don't have an email contact.

Doing both is a good idea.

I'm sure a Google search can turn it up.

CRC, thanks! I found it myself about 2 seconds before I read your post. Anyway, it gave me an idea to write a template letter. I know that it's best to roll your own, but some of us may be too busy/lazy to do that, in which case I'd much rather that they type their name at the end of the sample letter than not send one at all. Please critique mine:

============================= BEGIN SAMPLE =============================

Chairman Jim Sensenbrenner, Jr.
Committee on the Judiciary

Ranking Members
Committee on the Judiciary

NOVEMBER 8, 2005 HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE
Secure Access to Firearms Enhancement (SAFE) Act of 2005 - HR 1243 IH

Dear Chairman Sensenbrenner and Ranking Members:

I am contacting you in support of HR 1243, which was introduced in the House and proposes to establish national reciprocity for the carrying of certain concealed firearms. This is an important step in the right direction for all law abiding citizens. Its introduction signals the understanding that lawful self-defense is an important part of keeping our streets safe from violent criminals. It also recognizes the reality that the majority of states have already been working on and passing concealed carry laws and signing reciprocity agreements, and that these efforts must be elevated to the national level. I can speak for myself and many people I know that this issue is near and dear to the heart of many Americans, and determines how we vote on Election Day.

Respectfully,
XYZ

Well, I called. A live person answered (female) but when I stated why I called she asked me to hold and transferred to a voicemail box to record my message. Honestly, this is what I expected given the volume of calls they probably get today. I think they'll just tally the FOR and AGAINST messages and not listen to anything beyond that, so it's best to keep it short and sweet (and polite). Now a couple more calls...

CRC,

Just a humble suggestion: Maybe it would grab more attention if you added something like "NATIONAL CCW BILL Firemission" or "SUPPORT NATIONAL CCW" or something to that effect. I'm afraid a lot of people simply glance over the thread not knowing what "SAFE ACT" means...

I skipped over it a couple of times before finally deciding to see what SAFE ACT was. I'm glad I checked it out now.

Honorable Mr. INSERT YOUR REP HERE,

I am writing to request that you support
H.R. 1243, the “Secure Access to Firearms Enhancement (SAFE) Act of 2005.” as introduced by Rep. John Hostettler (R-IN). It would
allow individuals licensed to carry concealed firearms in one state to carry
them in other states, without obtaining any additional state gun licenses.

Sincerely,
