Ok, this is a spin off from SpinOff
RTP area ARFCOM'rs unite! Dyslexic ARFCOM'rs untie! Let's plan on SSI or DRPC in January after the holidays. I and/or Xring can host at SSI, Wolife's offered DRPC. Doesn't matter where to me. I'm pretty flexible, I work M-F and can shoot on a Saturdray or Sunday. SSI = Shooting Sports Inc, just off 401N just before Louisburg. DRPC = Durham Rifle Pistol Club is off I40/85? Chime in! ETA date time at top of thread: 1) DRPC per the poll 2) Saturday, January 8th 3) 10:00 am Headcount cancellations in 01. Assault Rifler 02. Glock-23 03. Wolfie 04. u352 05. Sigurd 06. SlimHazy 07. Sounds good.
Durham is closer for me ,I think. I could possible make it to either one. Would enjoy the chance to meet some more of you guys. 32-KCOLG... Sorry.... GLOCK-23 |
I'm in. DRPC is actually in Mebane, about 15 minutes west of Durham. I think there are other DRPC members here that could help bring the "non-member/member ratio" up a bit to make the DRPC folks happy.
Lets firm up a date, Saturday, January 8th? Hope it's not freezing cold by then.
Count me in. I am a DPRC member and I will actually be off that weekend.
-JR |
Added a vote for "either," and January 8 is good. The only problem I would forsee with DPRC is that they have a limit to the number of guests you can host. Maybe three per member? Either way, I know there are a couple of other members here that could help out with that, if they're available. If it turns into a large group, then we could probably get permission to turn it into an event.
SSI doesn't have a guest limit, but there's a practical limit. 5-6 max at the 100 yard range, and 3-4 in a separate pistol pit. As a host I'd be responsible for all the guests and couldn't watch more than that. It's unsupervised an no range officers or anything. Everyone there has to think and act like a range officer. The 100 yard range has 3 bench positions but lots of room to the side of the covered bench area where you could shoot standing or prone.
I have been wanting to check out DPRC for some time in hopes that it is worth the membership cost. Keep us posted!
Thanks |
I am a certified instructor I could do the range officer duties.

Hot damn! I should actually be there!
Well, it looks like I won't be..... First two weeks in Mexico, second two bouncing between RTP and Fall River. Sheesh! |
I'm down for either, neither are close to the beaches. My record so far is 229 miles (one way) for an ARFCOM shoot, so RTP is no problem! Hopefully I'll have a new upper configuration for my X-Ring Precision lower...

wolfie and you can both host 2, you have any club buddies that cou ld host the rest of our crowd? If not then we'll just have to take turns or something
I'll be glad to host two. CarbineMan is a member out there, so maybe if he's free he could host a couple? I'll see what I can do about finding more.
Slim, you can crash at my place and drive the next day.
Let's get this decided by a week from tomorrow. I'm leaving for Michigan until the week before we're planning to do this, and will be away from the internet for most of that time.
so far looks like:
1) DRPC per the poll 2) Saturday, January 8th 3) time: how about 10:00 am? |

Too late for this?
Looks like it might be full from a member/guest perspective. |
if we have too many non-members we will just break the shooters into groups.
-JR Edited (can't spell my way out of a paper bag). |
If there's too many people I'll show up anyway and sit out, just want to meet some fellow ARFCOM'rs, I have a place to shoot anyhow anytime at SSI. Need some shooting buddies!!!
As a practical matter, I really don't think it matters. I doubt anyone would get all bent out of shape if we had an extra guest or two. I'll happily just serve RO duties. Do you want to meet somewhere at a specified time and head over to the range? It might be easier that way then to have everyone try to find there way through the back roads. How about the parking lot at Mace Sports? It's within 5 minutes, and a good place if anyone wants to pick up some ammo, or a last minute rifle or two.
We could leave there at 10, and if there are any stragglers I'll send out my cell number and you can call me to open the gate. FYI, the big rules of the range are that there's no 50 BMG (does too much damage to the berm) and no Full Auto. You can have legally owned FA weapons, just set on semi. Suppressors are welcome, as are any other legally owned NFA firearms. No exploding targets. |
No, come on out and shoot. |
Post a map to Mace sports, ok by me. use http:;/maps.yahoo.com, save pictures as, host the pic, then hit the URL button on the ARFCOM reply screen, or just paste the URL for the completed in map. |

They do have a thrower, it's one of those manual jobbies, but it'll work. I could bring my 686E. And I know Assualtrifler has a skeet gun or two.
I'll bust some clays too! will bring a Beretta 682 Gold Sporting with ported barrels :-)
How does this sound 7mm08 AR 10, .243 AR10, 6.8x43 SPC M4, Side Charging handle lothar walther .223 SPR,Savage .300 win mag lothar walther,.308 Savage tactical X Ring Custom. .223 M4
Just a few tots I can bring all built by yours truely I am looking forward to someone elses ideas and evaluations. Red |
I'll bring a LE6920, a Beretta 682 shotgun, and probably my Colt Sporter Lightweight...and ammo! If anyone wants to see some green label Colt AR15's too, I could bring a couple along as well.
Here is an idea...how about an informal service rifle match? Garands, AR's, M1A's etc.
That would give us all something to do. |
Wow, I almost missed this! I just happened to poke my nose over here today.
I am a member of DPRC, so I can bring in two more visitors. As noted above, this doesn't get policed very hard. They have a brand new clay target thrower on the general purpose range. But rifle shooters get first preference, so no shotties unless the rifle shooters clear off the GP range. Is there a preference around which range to use? There are four. C_M |
Okay, I went back and read all the replies, some notes that might help.
If you haven't been there, DPRC has four ranges, from far left to right:
C_M |
That sounds like a pretty good idea. I'll have my SA58 broken in by then. |
What would we use for targets/stands?
I see now I gotta go get more ammo. GLOCK-23

I'll have to check my schedule, that is if you don't mind a VA member coming down. |

Any Arf.com members are welcome. A: you have to not be a nutballhave-JR
Apex, N.C. P.S. Lottery states should try to bring winning tickets to share! P.P.S I am sure some N.C. folks would spare an extra bedroom, couch, or floor for visiting long distance visitors.Edited for spelling...Hey it's a poor damn man that can spell a word one way! |

About two and a half miles depending on how fast you drive. It's about 5 miles off of exit 154 on I-85. |
