Ok, this is a spin off from  SpinOff

RTP area ARFCOM'rs unite!  Dyslexic ARFCOM'rs untie!

Let's plan on SSI or DRPC in January after the holidays.  I and/or Xring can host at SSI, Wolife's offered DRPC.  Doesn't matter where to me.  I'm pretty flexible, I work M-F and can shoot on  a Saturdray or Sunday.

SSI = Shooting Sports Inc, just off 401N just before Louisburg.
DRPC = Durham Rifle Pistol Club  is off I40/85?

Chime in!

ETA date time at top of thread:

1) DRPC per the poll
2) Saturday, January 8th
3) 10:00 am

Would enjoy the chance to meet some more of you guys.

I'm in.  DRPC is actually in Mebane, about 15 minutes west of Durham.  I think there are other DRPC members here that could help bring the "non-member/member ratio" up a bit to make the DRPC folks happy.

added a vote for which place, and I actually voted for DRPC.

Added a vote for "either," and January 8 is good.  The only problem I would forsee with DPRC is that they have a limit to the number of guests you can host.  Maybe three per member?  Either way, I know there are a couple of other members here that could help out with that, if they're available.  If it turns into a large group, then we could probably get permission to turn it into an event.

SSI doesn't have a guest limit, but there's a practical limit. 5-6 max at the 100 yard range, and 3-4 in a separate pistol pit.  As a host I'd be responsible for all the guests and couldn't watch more than that.  It's unsupervised an no range officers or anything.  Everyone there has to think and act like a range officer.  The 100 yard range has 3 bench positions but lots of room to the side of the covered bench area where you could shoot standing or prone.

I have been wanting to check out DPRC for some time in hopes that it is worth the membership cost.  Keep us posted!

Thanks

Hot damn! I should actually be there!

Well, it looks like I won't be.....

I'm down for either, neither are close to the beaches.  My record so far is 229 miles (one way) for an ARFCOM shoot, so RTP is no problem!    Hopefully I'll have a new upper configuration for my X-Ring Precision lower...

DPRC rules allow for a member and one guest to shoot or a member to act as RO while two guests shoot. Since I am technically a collector and not a hardcore shooter, I would be happy taking two guest.Apex,NC

I'll be glad to host two.  CarbineMan is a member out there, so maybe if he's free he could host a couple?  I'll see what I can do about finding more.

If there's too many people I'll show up anyway and sit out, just want to meet some fellow ARFCOM'rs, I have a place to shoot anyhow anytime at SSI.  Need some shooting buddies!!!

As a practical matter, I really don't think it matters.  I doubt anyone would get all bent out of shape if we had an extra guest or two.  I'll happily just serve RO duties.  Do you want to meet somewhere at a specified time and head over to the range?  It might be easier that way then to have everyone try to find there way through the back roads.  How about the parking lot at Mace Sports?  It's within 5 minutes, and a good place if anyone wants to pick up some ammo, or a last minute rifle or two.

We could leave there at 10, and if there are any stragglers I'll send out my cell number and you can call me to open the gate.

FYI, the big rules of the range are that there's no 50 BMG (does too much damage to the berm) and no Full Auto.  You can have legally owned FA weapons, just set on semi.  Suppressors are welcome, as are any other legally owned NFA firearms.  No exploding targets.

Post a map to Mace sports, ok by me. use http:;/maps.yahoo.com, save pictures as, host the pic, then hit the URL button on the ARFCOM reply screen, or just paste the URL for the completed in map.

Here is an idea...how about an informal service rifle match? Garands, AR's, M1A's etc.
That would give us all something to do.

Wow, I almost missed this!  I just happened to poke my nose over here today.

I am a member of DPRC, so I can bring in two more visitors.  As noted above, this doesn't get policed very hard.

They have a brand new clay target thrower on the general purpose range.  But rifle shooters get first preference, so no shotties unless the rifle shooters clear off the GP range.

Is there a preference around which range to use?  There are four.

Okay, I went back and read all the replies, some notes that might help.

If you haven't been there, DPRC has four ranges, from far left to right:
  1. General purpose range, target stands at 50 yards and meters, and 100 yards, about 10 concrete shooting benches on a concrete pad under a roof, plus a clay target thrower at the left end.
  2. Pistol range, fifty positions under a roof, target stands at 25 yards and 50 yards, two long benches in front of all shooters (25+25) on a concrete pad, lots of equipment benches beind the shootes plus benches to sit (I like to shoot my carbines here because it's a very comfortable setup.)
  3. Pistol Pit, range is about 20 yards very high berms on three sides, can be cramped if there's more than 3-4 shooters there; no bench.
  4. HP Rifle range, 4-5 shooter benches under a roof on a concrete pad, 20+ yards of room in the open to the right for more shooters, berms at 100 yards, 200 yards and 300 yards.
The parking lot at Mace sports is small, so if you want I can supply a map and directions to the club from I40.
