Forget the shotgun.  You better hire a squad from Blackhawk to keep the boys away!! You have two very pretty young ladies, Clay-More.  I see they get their GOOD looks from their mother!

I have 2 labs. Both are from great hunting stock. I have always had a special place in my heart for the black dogs!
However, my latest bundle of joy is an English Cocker Spaniel. This breed is a hunting dog. The American Cocker is IMHO worthless!
LOTS of the hunting plantations from south Georgia to Mexico are going from labs to English Cockers as their wagon dogs as retrievers.
They are very lovable, great with kids and mine has an awesome nose and drive to please.
Shot (mine) was retrieving doves at age 20 weeks!

Wow wedge , I would have thought you would have a "Nerf Hurder" My favorite dog of all time is the Lab. Full blood Labs are awesome. Grew up with them and have one now. Trying to talk the boss in letting me get 2 more. You know , one for each of the boys. They may just have to show up in the future. I already have a "pup tent" ( I know.. bad joke) I could sleep out in the yard with them after she gets mad. Anyway , my 2 cents. Take care

I think just about all dog breeds are COOL!

I guess my favorite would have to be the mini schnauzer. I have a pair of em and they are great companions. They are fantastic watchdogs and they DONT SHED. That is the coolest thing. We have a German Shepherd mix and she is a very good and very intelligent dog so I think I would really like the GSD but she sheds her weight in hair. My mom has a rottie that I just love. He is just a big teddy bear. I think the breed totally got a bad rap. He is a bit big though and he sheds a lot too. Some day I think I want to try out a Giant Schnauzer. Best of both worlds. For right now though I don't need a dog that can stop an intruder. Just one that can tell me he is there so I can do it.

Edit:
BTW Wedge, we have a little papillon too. She is probably over 10 years old. We inherited her with a grandparent passed. She is going deaf and blind and loseing teeth but refuses to die and is actually pretty frisky sometimes. Funny little dogs.

1. Newfoundland  (In the process of starting up a newfie  kennel.)

2. Malamute

3. Bouvier  (Yeah  I know it's a French name; Can't blame the breed for it's handle though.)

pitbulls.

My current dog is half pit half english bulldog.  I love her to death, but I wouldn't go for that combo again.  All of her health issues can be traced back to the english bulldog side.

Eventually if I have a place with enough room I'd like a blue heeler.  I think the herding dogs like that are great companions.  I would never get one of the large purebreds (rotts, bullmastifs, mastifs, etc.) as they just have too many health problems.  It sucks to see your pal and sidekick in pain or getting sick.

Heelers are great dogs! (Did you know they are born white?) If you decide to get one, find sombody down there...should be quite a few in the middle of the state cattle belt...who is using them for work and get a pup from them. Better health, smarter, and all 'round a better dog. Understand, though, that a working line dog will have lots of "drive" (energy) and needs a "job". Either you give him one or he finds his own...and you ain't gonna like the one HE chooses! (Like remodeling your back yard or maybe the sofa and chairs! Hee hee.)

Im not totally sure a heeler from a ranch is the way to go for a guy who wants a buudy/pet.

I bought one 5 years ago in the paper and she is the best looking/acting heeler ive ever seen.  On the other hand I went with a buddy to get his from a ranch and his when bored will eat rocks, his enamel on his teeth are gone showing nerves, and the vet has to remove rocks from him evry year or so.  Like you said they need a job or else.  I played hide-n-seek with mine if it was rainig and played frizzbie if it was nice outside.  After a year or so(and a few pair of shoes later) she got to point of not being a pain in the ass but during that first year I took her everywhere including Home Depot.

My wife has an English Bulldog.
My Daughter has a Corgi.
We collectively own 2 cats,
and I have three cows and a Limousin Bull.
If I had my druthers, I think I'd get a german shepherd-chow mix, meanwhile these guys are good for a few laughs.
The bulldog especially. Maybe it's because he reminds me of those cartoons.
ETA: I agree with Corgis having a big dog attitude... Sam can best be described as prissy, though. Which is also amusing.

We had to put my 14yo Jack Russell Terrier Mix to sleep last Friday, it was horrible.  We thought we could get along without another dog for awhile, but too many quiet days and nights made us realize different.  So, we are heading up to adopt this guy from a NorCal Jack Russell Rescue:

He is a 2yo and we can't wait for the terror that is a young Jack Russell Terrier!!

Other than that, when we get more space, I will be getting a Drahthaar.

My order:

1. Rottweiler
2. Giant Schnauzer

I currently have both and they are incredible dogs. Both around the 100+ lb mark and are great family / guard dogs. If we don't you they will let you know.
