Had to put down my girlfriend's chocolate lab puppy two weeks ago at 7 months. Had kidney displasia. We knew she had it for a while, and she did ok for a while, but went downhill fast over a three day span...third eye lid covering up her eyes, seizures, general apathy. Absolutely wasn't the smartest dog in the world, but pure sweetness. Putting her down was one of the hardest things I've had to do. |

Any dead dog is a good dog. Seriously, I like dogs, especially border Collies but for the most part can't stand their owners. Mostly the barking at night without anyone finding out what's wrong or to shut them up gets me the most. Other than that, their fine.
I'm a big cat person. |

You would like Ops then. He hardly makes a sound. Papillons are so quite and very cat like. When he does bark it scares the hell out of me because it is so rare. |

I agree. Here's a couple of Buster the day we brought him home |

I've had a good Great Dane and St. Bernard in years past. Big but they really were babies. My Dane and a neighbor's Beagle were inseperable. Alas, I live in the city now and don't have room for a big dog. Anybody know what kind of puppy was in the "Fluffy, He is the Destroyer of Worlds" picture. My daughter wants one of those.

If you like stock dogs that don't fear anything try a Catahoula Leopard Dog. Bread for hunting bears, lions and wild hogs but will heard anything. Loyal to the death and very territorial.

I won't necessarily disagree with you 6172crew. A working-line dog needs work...a job. But I have dealt with only work line GSDs for so long, and seen so damned many heartbreaks with show line dogs of all breeds that I have zero respect fot show line breeders as a group. Yes, I know a couple who do their best to produce really nice family type dogs, but by and large they are clueless and a detriment to ALL breeds as far as I'm concerned!
Show judges can be allowed to be "experts"n as many as 20+ breeds. Anybody who thinks that these people know what the fuck they are doing should line up to buy my swampland special in Arizona this week! Only working lines! |

Yours is the first civie HMMWV I have seen that actually seems to used as a work truck, and not some suburban showpiece. How has it held up for you? |

Thanks! Yours is great! Mine does the same thing as yours: Claims the dead center of the ottoman as his own. I've been thinking of getting a black pug as well. they are a riot to have around the house. |

German Shepard
Panzer is his name. Best dog we have ever owned. We also own a Dachshund and love the little guy. |

The Viszla are a great breed. My friend's parents used to breed them. They are a great hunting dog. |

Pug!!
I've got one and she makes me laugh every single day. The neatest thing Pugs seem to do is look like they are listening to you. If you talk to her, she will sit and pay attention to you. The whole time to are speaking she will cock her head like she is paying attention. I'm sure the neighbors think I'm crazy since I talk to my dog all the time. Her name is SNAFU. The perfect name for a Pug. Av. |

They are great to live with. They love kids, but they are big, with kind of a bull in a china shop thing with smaller children. They are protective but not really aggressive, though my older girl can get a bit growly at certain people, though any robber with a biscuit would have rule of the house. One issue is that they are definite social climbers and must be constantly reminded of their place, a thing we (ok the wife) are horrible at. There are a few disease issues, mostly epilepsy, along with bloat, hip dysplasia and OCD. Our older girl actually had two cancerous tumors removed but they were small, and it isn't that common in the breed. There are different types of Greater Swiss that you see at the shows. Ours with the blocky head and others with more pointy features. Of course I think my two girls are the most beautiful dogs in the world. If you want to learn a lot about them go to Greaterswiss.com They are a bit pricey, but nothing compared to the cost of feeding and vet bills. |
