[ARCHIVED THREAD] - AR Beginner Question

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about getting an AR15 variant as my first rifle. I have shot .22 rifles on numerous occasions but never owned my own. I was wondering if you guys could recommend any books or good links that will help me learn more about the rifle and the different things I can do with it. Also cleaning, regular maintenance, etc.

I'm just trying to learn as much as possible as I can.

feel free to buy books if you want but you could save some money and just read the sub forums here. If you look in each subforum, there are usually FAQs stickied at the top. read the AR15 FAQs at the top of this forum first. theres also a sub forum for maintenance and cleaning with a few FAQ threads as well. plenty of info on this site alone

All of the suggestions listed so far are good. Make sure you look into what is legal in your state.

When I got my first AR I thought I should buy a manual but you really don't need one with all the resources here and other places online.
