Read your post and had to check it, you were right. The screw was a bit loose and I tightened it but it´s still not sitting flat against the frame. However, it´s better now and chance to lose it on the range is much smaller so thanks for the tip.

I notice that 629-1 isn't pinned and recessed. Is the origional 629 (no dash) pinned and recessed?
Also,is there a particular "dash" of the 629 that has minimal issues with timing, etc., problems, yet doesn't have a lock? I once owned a 29-2 and would like another, probably in 6" or 6.5", but I would also like a 4" 629 for camping/backpacking and for the 629 might give up pinned and recessed to gain action strength . . . |

I believe the only 629 that was P&R was the very first version, prior to the -1, or as you said, the "no dash" model. I have a friend who has a 629 that is not P&R, but is still a wonderful gun and shoots like a dream. I'm not sure which "dash model" numbers had issues, or when they started adding the retarded Hillary Hole. I'm a big fan of P&R Smiths, so that's what I usually look for and wait to find. |

In 1979 while a LEO I traveled to Springfield, MA. to attend a 2 week armorers school at the S&W factory. We were taught how to find and fix problems with revolvers then we worked on revolvers built by a previous class. We then built revolvers for the next class.
These carts have about 300 revolvers, the paper tags are the critique by the instructors for us the fix.

After a long, long time, I got me the retro revolver bug. So gots me this almost new (but dated 1970) model 15. A model 10 H.B. is arriving to me as I write this. Retro is cool. |

Thanks for the link, I too would have used the solids. Winchester has a new "Razorback" ammo out that supposed to be a super penetrator for large hogs and other large tough critters. I'm curious how it would behave although I wouldn't want want to be the first to try it on an elk. Belated congrats on the elk
