Here is one of my builds. A registered SBR chambered for 5.56mm.
It sports a 10.5"  chrome lined barrel. Overall Length 25.5 inches. The barrel was originaly a 16" from Bushmaster.
ACE Ultralite stock, Yankee Hill Machine flip up rear site, EOTech 512, Trijicon Tritium front site post.
The lower is a special edition GeorgiaCarry.org lower from Double Star Corp. with a Hogue pistol grip. The upper
is a Bushmaster flat top. The flash Suppressor is an old AR-15 three prong that works just fine.

Here's my first full build.
Started with a CY6 lower from Sully at Defensive Edge (Territorial Gunsmiths, LTD.), with the Sully trigger guard on it.
RRA lower parts kit with JP 3.5 pound trigger spring kit
Flat top upper with the "square" forge mark, M4 feedramps, topped with an MI SPLP BUIS.
CMT M16 bcg.
Sabre Defence vanadium alloy, chrome lined 1x7 M4 profile barrel with "F" fsb.
Daniel Defense 7.0 Omega FF rail system.
Was going trying to go all OD green on the furniture, but I must have messed up when I ordered the pistol grip.  Thought I ordered OD, but this is what came.  I'll be switching it out and you'll see this on on the EE or I'll just do a Foilage build
I know the Magpul mag is foilage, too, which I'll also fix, when the opportunity presents itself.
For now, this is my KISS gun.  If I add any optic, it'll probably be an Eotech or something simple like that.

Don't we have a great hobby!?!?!

Very first build back in April 2008:  Bushmaster Lower, forget what kind of upper, Vltor Emod Stock, Magpul MIAD Grip, Troy f/r flip up sights, EOTECH, LaRue 12" hand guard, Noveske 16" Bull Barrel, Tango Down Vertical Grip.  Paint:  KG Gun Kote Full Dark Earth, Brown, Grey, and Black.  I baked it a little too long, and the FDE turned out pretty much brown on it's own.

http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk240/mnicholas77/M-4%20Stuff/CIMG0578.jpg

Second build late in 2008:  Bushmaster Lower and Upper, Vltor Clubfoot stock, Magpul MIAD Grip, Troy f/r flip up sights, EOTECH & EOTECH flip to side 3 time magnifier, LaRue 9" hand guard, CMMG 11.5" barrel, Spikes Tactical Fake Can, Pentagon light, LaRue FUG vertical grip.  Paint:  Krylon Camouflage special with tan, green,  and black.

http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk240/mnicholas77/M-4%20Stuff/CIMG1181.jpg

Third build February 2009:  Actually completely broke down and sandblasted my first build.  I didn't like the bull barrel since it was so heavy.  Bushmaster Lower, still don't remember the upper, Magpul CTR stock, Magpul MIAD grip, Troy f/r flip up sights, LaRue 12" hand guard, CMMG light car 14.5" barrel, Noveske Pig flash suppressor, Tango down QD vertical grip.  Waiting to get an ACOG to repalce the EOTECH on the original.  Paint:  Earth yellow, and earth red.  Paint is much flatter and earthy dirty toned in real life, not a good picture.

http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk240/mnicholas77/M-4%20Stuff/CIMG1547.jpg

I used the corn broom/pine needles method for painting in the camo...

LMT MRP CQB Length - Piston - 16 inch barrel
PRI / MSTN QC Brake (works great)
LMT BCG
PWA Preban lower in mint condition ($$$$)
Geissele DMR high speed trigger, tuned and installed by ADCO
WOA LPK
Magpul MIAD
Magpul UBR
LaRue FUG
LaRue sling (awesome modular sling)
Surefire G2 (soon to be 6PD) with Malkoff M60 235 lumen head in a LaRue Offset mount.
Magpul XTM rail covers

It still needs iron sights (waiting on the magpul MBUS)
It still needs optics (I bought a 1.5-4.5 and 2.5-10 weaver classic extreme from this thread on the liquidation sale at natchez, plus I have an eotech in a LaRue mount on my other AR ... I'm waiting on a LaRue SPR mount to try out my new glass)
It still needs a bipod (the new LaRue BMR-S bipod is on the way)
It still needs a big tac latch charging handle replacement ... using the small stock one sucks.

Things I may change ...

Since watching the magpul dynamics DVD and trying out some of the methods suggested, I find I shoot better and have more control using the grip method they suggest, where the thumb of the support hand stays on the same side of the weapon as the rest of the fingers, aka not holding the grip like a broom handle.
This means that my offset mount on the right side of the gun is essentially useless, as my thumb will no longer be there to activate it ... so I likely will be replacing the offset mount with the new larue inline mount and placing it on the left side of the weapon.

The MIAD's built in improved trigger guard ... I dunno, the FDE color looks a bit funny to me there, but this is purely cosmetic and I really can't justify another $20 to get a metal improved trigger guard to replace the built in MIAD one.

The sling setup I will have to shoot some and see what I like.  I have 4 possible holes to use ... not sure which I will ultimately stick with.

Besides that, this rifle is complete and operational.

The PWA lower and LMT upper lock up like a vault, absolutely no wiggle or jiggle, and the two finishes match nearly perfectly (rumor has it that PWA turned INTO LMT, or something like that, so I guess it would make sense).
The geissele DMR trigger is sick, I'm very happy with the install from ADCO, I tried to install it myself and did not like the outcome ... ADCO told me that I had a broken part that Bill Geissele replaced, so maybe that was the problem.

I dunno, overall I am incredibly pleased, as this is the first AR I have truly built from 100% top end parts, picking the components from the ground up.

It's a preban to boot ... it's probably the nicest AR I've ever seen or felt in person.  Very happy.

Just finished 2 custom builds for my wife & teenage daughter.

I found out that a good way to get your female family members more interested in shooting is not only to get them their own guns, but paint/DuraCoat them in colors & schemes they like.  My wife & daughter LOVE theirs!  We shot these for the first time today & they shot flawlessly.  Now they're bugging me to go every weekend!

Daughter's AR15:

- Superior Arms lower receiver
- DPMS parts kit
- Custom Pink Camoflage paint on 4-position collapsible stock, pistol grip, and handguards (DuPont paint & clearcoat)
- Blackthorne upper receiver & barrel
- Young Mfg Phosphate-coated AR15 BCG
- Tactical Latch & Extended Bolt Catch added
- DuraCoat "Lars Larson Commie Pinko" coating applied with airbrush throughout, clearcoated with DuraCoat Matte Clear

–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Wife's AR15:

- Superior Arms lower receiver
- DPMS parts kit
- 6-position collapsible stock
- CAA pistol grip
- Cavalry Arms handguards
- Blackthorne upper receiver & barrel
- Young Mfg Phosphate-coated AR15 BCG
- Tactical Latch & Extended Bolt Catch added
- DuraCoat Cobalt Blue, CavArms Blue, White, Yellow coating applied with airbrush throughout, clearcoated with DuraCoat Matte Clear (supposed to be a lightning bolt to represent her favorite NFL team)

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––-––––––––––––––––––––

Say what you want about Blackthorne products, but these represent 2 of the 4 Blackthorne upper receivers & barrels I've purchased and used in the last year, all without any function/firing problems.  Each one headspaces out just fine, and the only issues I've had are with: (1) the fit on a lower receiver, and (2) the rear peep sights are installed backwards.  I've installed 3 Blackthorne uppers on Superior Arms lowers, and all I've had to do is file down the rear of the upper receiver slightly.  However, on the 4th upper, it went on a S&W lower, and there were some considerable fit issues.  I even tried to test-fit my broken-in Bushmaster A1 upper receiver on the S&W lower, and it wouldn't fit very well either.  So, I had to do quite a bit of careful filing on that upper to get it to fit on the S&W lower.

As for the rear peep sights, I've had to disassemble the windage assemblies, flip the peep sights (day vs. night peep sights), and re-install them.  On the 2 uppers I DuraCoated, I had to disassemble them anyway, so no big deal.  But on the other 2 uppers, it was an unnecessary exercise (and I broke 4 1/16-inch roll pin punches in the process!! GRRR!!).

I needed these uppers for a good price as training guns, and I've gotten quite a bit more out of them than I paid for.  I'm very happy with Blackthorne uppers, even though I know I have to file down the rear of each upper receiver to fit.  If you aren't happy about having to do this, pay more to get something better.  If you don't mind a little work in order to save some $$$$, then I'd recommend Blackthorne uppers & barrels.

I had to completely break down each one to prep for DuraCoating, which gave me a chance to inspect everything thoroughly.  I left the FSBs installed as I didn't want to deal with the tapered pins, but removed the gas tubes & barrels, sight assemblies, forward assist, etc...  The A2 flash hiders were indexed & torqued properly with crush washers, so I left them on.  After DuraCoating, I reinstalled everything, using Moly Grease on all threads & all sight assemblies.  Everything torqued to specs just fine, and headspaced perfectly.  The only issues I had were with the weld springs; they were TIGHT as motherf**kers!!  I got a padded Handguard Removal Tool, and it helped with installing the handguards.  If you don't already have one of these, I highly recommend one!!  At first I thought they were ridiculous, until wrestling with these Blackthorne weld springs when trying to remove the handguards for complete disassembly; I bought one right away and now swear by it.

Went out today to break these in and have the wife & daughter fire THEIR new AR15s; I test-fired a few rounds with NO problems, ran a bore brush down the barrels & then some patches, fired 5 more rounds each, brushed & patched the barrels, then broke them down for inspections.  Headspacing still guaged perfectly, and there were absolutely NO problems at all (fed great, extracted fine, shot excellently!).  Good to go!  My wife & daughter shot them for the first time and had a great time; they had them zeroed in no time.

Now my wife & daughter want to go out every weekend & fire their new AR15s.

Just finished this one:

SPECS:
- ADS matched upper & lower, OD Green
- DPMS lower parts kit
- Young Mfg Chrome BCG
- Titanium firing pin
- Extended Charging Handle latch
- MagPul MOE OD Green Stock (MilSpec)
- Non-Rotating Pin Set ("Anti-Walk")
- Hogue rubber OD Green pistol grip
- DEZ Arms 16-inch H-Bar barrel, with M4 feed ramps (to match upper receiver)
- Yankee Hill Machine rifle-length lightweight free-float tube, with end ring
- Yankee Hill Machine low-profile gas block (set to proper 1/32" backspacing)
- Slip-Over flash hider
- MagPul rail covers (Black, OD Green, Flat Dark Earth for a sort of ACU/digital camo suggestion)

I stripped & DuraCoated the remaining parts WW2 OD Green and then applied Matte Clear over everything to match the OD Green ADS upper/lower receiver set.  The Non-Rotating/Anti-Walk pin set was easier to install than standard trigger/hammer pins!

The sad thing is that now I have to sell it!  The wife declared that we have more than enough AR15s and spare parts, so the excess guns have to go... oh well!

I think this is going to get a small light and become my truck gun.
