Just saw the Weaver Classic Extreme 1.5-4.5 x 24 w/illum reticle for $250.00 at Natchez. I'd buy one, but I live in AL.

vewwy tempted...
These any good? Weaver Classic Extreme 2.5-10X56 30mm Tube Illuminated German #4 Reticle Reg $926.88 Sale $269.95 Mike |
im considering the Millet DMS. it would be around $230 shipped.
so i am interested in how these scopes compare to the DMS. |
I grabbed a 2.5-10x50 Extreme with the illum.German #4 today. I work in a gun shop that carries Weaver scopes. The glass is very clear/bright. This is a really good scope for $259. I can't get one this cheap through the store.
I ordered one of the 1.5-4.5x with the German illuminated #4 reticle. I am going to put it on my Bushmaster A2 using an ARMS #2 mount and their #22 QD rings.
This is an exellent scope, and a steal at $249! |

That's a HUGE discount. There has to be a reason for it . . . The descriptions say "new for 2007", so I assume they have new models coming out... Mike |

Mike I believe this is probably the case since SWFA doesn't even list them on their site any more. Too bad, from what I hear they were very good scopes for the money. Quite popular with the 3-gun guys. |
These were good scopes for $400, so I'd imagine they're a great value at under $300.
Weaver's Glass is good to go. Japanese lenses I believe. |
I gave in as well and ordered the German #4
Can't beat the $266 shipped when it retails for $450 at other places Weaver ETA: Prices just went up $20 for both the 1.5-4.5x24mm |

I got mine (1.5-4.5x24) today, I must say I am impressed with it so far, especially for the money. The glass is bright and clear and the build quality seems to be very solid.
Ordered the 2.5-10X50 on the 7th and received it earlier today. My first quality scope and I am very pleased with it. The glass is very clear. My invoice had the scopes original price at $878.66 and I paid $259.95. One hell of a deal! Now I'm just trying to find the right butler creek flip covers for it.

Illumination is NOT day time visible.
My 2.5-10x 56mm arrived today. But I am pleased with the illumination. I want night-time illumination. On setting 2, it is very faint, the illumination is within the thickness of the crosshair as a tiny speck. When cranked up to 8-10, it becomes a dot about the size of the crosshair intersection. A little blooming in darkness. Higher settings are meant for dawn.dusk. Does not overpower in any way which is perfect for low light situations. If you want day-time illumination, this is NOT the scope for you. Get an Accupoint and you'll have a triangle shaped sun for your reticle. Got to love Trijicon, they are BRIGHT. |

No pics of the reticle, will try to do it for you though.
Here is a link to show what style the reticle is... 1.5-4.5x24 German #4 |
Both mine are in, I bought the 1.5x4.5 and the 2.5x10x50. I also have a Bushnell 4200 1.25X4 sitting at Cabela's waiting to be picked up. I might not keep the Bushnell but I will compare it with the Weaver before making up my mind. The Weaver classic extreme seems good to go. The reticle looks unlike the above link, it is a German #4 however. The comparable Bushnell just went up a hundred bucks at Cabela's, I am sure happy about jumping on the Natchez Email I got.
He is right that the reticle image in the link is not exact, but close. The actual reticle has the heavy portion of the 'duplex' extending in closer to the crosshair center. This is the same style, just not the exact measurements.

I ordered one after the $20 price increase 2.5x10x56MM with Duel X . What concerns me is the weight 25 os? Oh well for $289.00 what the heck
What's the difference between 50mm and 56mm , is it just brighter ? And weighs 2 oz more.
Sure is heavy . |
The difference is 6mm
6mm on diameter equates to quite a bit more lens surface. The most important factor in brightness is glass/polish/coatings quality. The better the glass, the better they are polished, the better the coatings - the more light. I've had 24mm objectives that were brighter than 40mm objectives due to the superior glass. With the 56mm objective, you can still have a 5.6mm exit pupil at 10x. Which helps YOU see as much of the light that's coming out of that scope as possible. At 6x, it's putting out 9.3mm exit pupil which is larger than your pupil can dilate. Lens quality is pretty good. I'd put it on par with the Nikon Monarch line or Bushnell 4200. It's around there. It's not high end quality like Zeiss or IOR optical quality, but it is a definite step up from scopes like the Burris FFII, Super Sniper, Leupold VX II .... |
Mine came today. 2.5x10x50. Slightly smaller than I thought. I played with while waiting to pick up wifey from the doc. Keep in mind that I have never actually bought a scope before (have mostly cheap Tascnells that came on used guns, and one Nikon Pro Staff that came on a .22). Do have a couple of Aimpoints. This was a very sharp and bright scope IMHO. I have a feeling that the other scopes will be jealous....lol There was a little brassing on the battery cover. Hmmmm. And the box is pretty cheap looking for what was selling for $569.99 2 weeks ago at NatchezSS. Hmmmm. Now to buy mounts and flip up caps. I MIGHT buy another one.

Mine came on the UPS truck this evening. I really like this scope. I have already mounted it on my Bushmaster. The mount is an ARMS #2, the rings are ARMS #21 STANAG. http://www.myhostedpics.com/images/Mannlicher/weaverona2close.jpg I sure like this setup. I just might scope my goverment carbine instead of placing the Weaver Extreme on a dangerous game bolt gun. Have you used the carry handle adapter and Stanag rings already? |
I just got suckered in mean ordered mine.
Now I have to figure out an affordable flat top mounting unit. |
has anyone ever tested out the 2.5-10x50 yet? Does it hole well?

This is my first go'round with scoping a carry handle AR. I have used ARMS products though on a couple of flat tops, as well as on my M1A rifle. |

Weavers new top of the line optics just showed up on the webpage. There are some ill. reticles in the lineup. http://www.weaveroptics.com/optics/riflescopes/superslam.aspx

Got my German #4 1.5-4.5x24 also. Optically, definitely superior to the DMS-1 and at least as good as the Bushnell 4200, possibly better. Very well built and surprisingly compact.

I just snatched a 1.5-4.5x myself - I think this is going to prove to be a really good deal.
Hey, anybody purchase flip-ups for them yet? If so, can you tell me what sizes you bought? |

I too picked a 1.5x4.5 up. sadly since I am one the other side of the planet it will be a few months until I can play with it. Hopefully by then all of y'all will know the proper cap sizes and anything else that needs to be worked out.
I have high expectations, as I have always been pleased with Weaver in the past for optics under the Leupold level. |
I couldn't resist so I ordered a 2.5x10 with the German reticle. I'm going to go broke reading these forums! No wait, I'm already broke.

If you look up these scopes on MidwayUSA's site it shows cap size.
I have a one of these as well - it's been a great scope so far.

Anyone know how the battery life is on these and what type they use?
Looks like a great hunting scope for my 6.8. |

It uses CR2032 I left mine on for 24hrs on setting 7 out of 11 and was still going on strong. it was still visible when pointing directly at a lamp on setting 11, I didn't notice a decrease in brightness. |

Thanks, you pack of rat bastiges are DIRECTLY responsible for me having just ordered my SECOND Weaver Classic Extreme, this time a 1.5-4.5 (last week it was the 2.5-10x56!). Now, to go out back and route through my neighbor's trash for food scraps or perhaps some wood or cardboard to burn in the fireplace to warm up my Alpo Beef Stew for supper....... .....aw crap, it's only money, right?
