It's an ACOG TA648MGO308.  Basically a 6x ACOG that weighs too much.

OMFG 2.5lbs (page says 39.3oz) for an optic?!?! Weighs too much is right.

ETA1: vtmac, your rifle is looking pretty sweet. What length barrel are you thinking about putting on it?

ETA2: breaking down the name of that 2.5lbs optics, the TA648MGO-308, it makes a little more sense. Feel free to correct any of my ASSUMPTIONS

TA = Trijicon ACOG
648 = obviously 6x48
MGO = Machine Gun Optic (this is a guess but it makes a LOT of sense given the size and power of the scope)
308 = obviously the 7.62mm cartridge

Thus the MGO, I could see putting that scope on an MG but not an AR.

ETA3: looking at the ACOG product list, yes, MGO does stand for machine gun optic

My 6.8 build is finally a reality. Been wanting to do this for a couple years now. I gathered up the parts for the upper and had Rainier assembled it for me.  Assembled the lower yesterday myself. Undecided as to optics at this point. Also need to allow the wallet to heal. Will post a range report after I have a chance to take it out. Hopefully that will happen next Monday.

Upper:  Noveske 18" stainless 6.8 SPR barrel (mid-length gas)
            Smith Vortex FH
            VLTOR MUR 1A upper
            DD 10. Lite Rail
            Troy sights

Lower: Noveske N4 stripped receiver
            Stag/CMT LPK
            Geissele SSA trigger
            MOE grip
            Magpul UBR stock kit

Regards, GeorgeWA

The rifle is going to be another dedicated 22lr SPR (Squirrel Population Reducer).  Mega Monolithic rifle length upper w/ matching billet lower.  Wilson TTU-2 Stage trigger, Magpul peripherals.  Ultimately it will probably wear the T-1 and no bipod but cant say for sure.  I have a barrel coming from Adam at Ballistic Advantage, 16" (will look like a 14 1/2") stainless Lothar Walther barrel with Spike's bolt assembly and YHM QD Phantom for the stealth squirrel eradication missions.

Yeah, Scope is a beast.  I bought it originally for a LaRue OSR but gave up on that so sat it on a shelf and moved on until I can find or build a rifle for it.

As I understand it, you are 100% correct on the acronym breakdown.

Just finally got around to slapping the glass on top of this (it's been sitting around for a week but I've been busy). Think it's finally done. Better pics to follow, but obligatory crappy cellphone pic for now (no feet, sorry).

http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff84/duffieldew/Junk/IMAG0040.jpg

Haven't gotten it to the range yet with the glass, so I'm not dead set on positioning yet, but...

Full Specs, just because:

Spikes Lower
VLTOR Rifle Stock
Giesselle SSA
MIAD
Larue Stealth Upper
CLE Turned Lilja SPR Contour Barrel
Troy TRX Extreme 13.2" forearm
Troy BUIS
Vortex FH
Atlas Bipod on a LT Mount
Nightforce 2.5-10 x 32 Mil/Mil in an LT mount.

Don't even want to think of the $$$$ if I actually added it all up at once.

I am far from a legal expert, and don't know how the gun is registered, BUT..

Assuming that is an AR-15 "Pistol", a VFG turns it into "AOW".  Is the magwell-hold-grip a loophole/work-around?  Or...?

..just curious

Superior Arms lower purchased a couple years ago $100
DPMS LPK $60
Smith & Wessom M&P new and unfired in the EE $500
MOE Stock and Grip $FREE.99 since they came off my Noveske and I was going to take them off anyways.
ACOG $FREE.99

The lower doesn't like PMAGS.  They're just a little too big and don't slide free at all.  They're actually kinda tough to shove in there in the first place.
This will become a California Compliant upper using a Bullet Button and 10 round magazine thanks to CalGuns.NET

Colors ARE different between M&P and SA lower.  MIGHT bug me but right now what bugs me more is finding a case for this and my shotgun.

My very first build, inspired by some members here and their earlier posts.  Special thanks to you guys who helped me ID some of the parts.

PS I know I'm still missing the rear sight - and the huge scope was only temporary until my EOTech shows up.

She's chambered for 5.56 NATO @ 16" barrel - note that the gas tube needs to be "mid length" for this barrel size.  Rifle is too long, carbine is too short.  Also, the lower is stamped ".223" but I had no problems feeding both 5.56 and .223 through it.  The only issue was a poorly made loose fitting clip that caused the bolt carrier to lock back mid cycle.  A small tap on the bottom of the clip freed everything up and got the next round ready to go.  Lesson learned - Don't cheap out on the clip!

Why the hell did you use a carbine rail on a middy?

clip?? are you talking about the magazine? clips feed ammo into the magazine. the magazine feed rounds into your rifle. unless you have been jamming paper clips into your rifle.

Welcome,

1. Magazine, not clip.
2. It doesn't matter what the lower is stamped.  It matter what your barrel is chambered for.
3. You need a 9" (mid length) rail for that barrels gas port location if you want to cover the gas tube (which for obvious reasons would be a good idea)

Do lots of research and not cheaping out on parts the first time are two extremely valuable lessons to be learned quickly..

My first AR; just finished assembly. Haven't shot it yet, still waiting for loctite to cure. Build total came to $625. I was somewhat hesitant to go with a 20" H-bar setup, I was worried about the balance being too front heavy. I'm actually really happy with the way the rifle balances. Still haven't decided on optics, so the irons will do for now.
