You guys can keep all your shiny new bolt together wallet guns.  I just finished this retro XM177E1 Commando SBR build on an 80% Nodak A1 partial fence lower and a 10" pencil barrel.  Most of the remaining parts are original Colt.  It was very challenging to find all the old parts from the 60s and 70s to put this together correctly.  After I refinished it I spent a few minutes giving it that "been there, done that" post battlefield look.

That is a cool gun Cammer.  It's nice seeing a faithfully reproduced retro.  What jig did you use for the 80% work?

Agreed! Nice retro build! Looks good, I like the patina you gave it. But, did the older guns come with tear drop assist on them?

This was my as cheap as I felt safe going precision/ tactical rifle. I ran with budget in areas that I was ok with and went mid range on items I felt were critical.
Ran about $867 before optics. Oh tghe scope used was a early 1970s era Weaver steel tubed blued hunting scope. 4-12 variable on Wal mart rings (getting as real scope soon)
Beginning

End

$35 Anderson blem lower
$30 Anderson blem upper
$12 upper parts kit
$64 Black Rain Ordinance LPK - could have gone cheaper but was impulse buy in LGS
$22 buffer tube and spring
$22 JE SOPMOD stock - honestly its pretty damn decent
$85 GunTec Mlok free float (bought from SKD) Its light, it free floats, its mounted solid, what more does it need to do?
$38 Geissele Super Gas Block - bought on EE - I don't like the YHM ones, this one went on perfectly
$9   rifle length gas tube
$45 Ultimate Arms Gear Troy Claymore copy Muzzle Break  - sorry I aint buying TRoys shit and I like the blast being directed away.
$89 Bushmaster BCG - honestly they are just fine, nothing special, nothing bad
$189 Giessele SSA-E
$249 White Oak Armament 18" Stainless  rifle length gas SPR profile barrel - loctite bedded (yeah Ima  cheap ass)

I "broke it in" by firing assorted factory 5.56 loads to get the scope dialed in then ran about 40 rounds to get the feel for everything and test function. Ran a patch of CLP through it and took a  break. I fired 5 more rounds then went to work on lead development by launching 69grn SMKs with varying charges of Accurate 2495 (love this powder, reliable and very clean burning). After settling on a powder weight I liked I shot 5 groups of 5 to confirm that it liked it and I didnt need to dick around with powder charges anymore.

100yds groups on that load were .457 to .559

Considering there is considerable slop between the upper and lower, I was happy as shit with those results and will try them again when I remember my friggin accuwedge.

Thanks.  I used the Modulus Arms HD jig.  I like it a lot.  It's very secure and exact.  Very easy to use with a router.

Thanks.  The upper is from a late 60s demilled M16a1.  It had some nice normal wear marks on it.  After I finished the lower I just put some wear on it to make it match the upper.  Yes, the tear drop assist was the only assist used until some point in the late 70s I believe.  Perhaps until the A2 uppers came out.

My first AR-15, which is a pistol for HD, including putting together my first lower:

1) PSA upper complete, 10.5" 5.56, Lightweight M-LOK 9" w/4150 steel melonite barrel, 7:1
2) PSA BCG - Nickel Boron
3) PSA charging handle
4) Aero Precision Gen 2 lower
5) ALG Defense ACT TRIGGER, FTG
6) Magpul MAG416 grip
7) Magpul MAG015 Trigger Guard
8) CMMG LPK, builders kit
9) KAK Shockwave Buffer Tube Assembly & Blade
10) Magpul PMAG 20 M3

Almost complete, except for iron sites (flip-up) if needed, and sling.
Recommendations are welcomed.

Thanks for your advice.
I actually ordered a Primary Arms Advanced Micro Red Dot,
model MD-ADS.
I first ordered the PA Micro Red Dot, but the Advanced model has approx. a 50,000 hour battery life compared to 1000 hours, which is a big deal. I can leave it on, and be pretty certain the battery won't be drained whenever I need to use it. I'll change the battery annually though.
Lower third would be around the top 6th hole from the end of the barrel?

Lower 1/3 means when you look through the optic no matter where it is mounted on the rail, the red dot sits above the line of sight of your irons. Google "Lower 1/3" Cowitness".  "Absolute cowitness" means the red dot will line directly up with the iron sights. As for the enhanced model, you did good. 50k hours is great. Just dont mount it that far forward on your rail and call it 1/3 witness.

After building my Uncle his first AR, and him getting "hooked" on the platform. He wanted another in a different caliber....and wanted us to build "twins"....since we shoot/hunt together.
After going over all available calibers, he still wanted to build in 300 blackout. This was solidified by the rounds versatility, and inexpensive to reload.
We do not "run" supressed, so I have my apprehension with the round...for the moment. Once our glass gets here, I may enjoy the 300...that is TBD.
Regardless, I couldn't possibly resist adding another AR to the stable...SO....one of the two 300's.

First AR15, and first build. Nothing fancy or expensive, just a budget pseudo-dissipator, with a low-profile gas block.

Aero lower
Brownells upper
Brownells B-Tac barrel
PSA lower and upper small parts
Magpul furniture, ACS-L stock
YHM folding front sight, HK hood

And a Bulgarian AK-74 brake to irritate the purists. Gonna take it out this weekend and see how it runs.

And here is this one... My MK18ish build as a pistol while waiting on the Form 1.  I really didn't do a whole lot of research on this, just like the classic look. Not sure how accurate it is (as far as looks, not authenticity). I did use KAC parts where I felt important.

Im pimping this out today on the pic threads...

Noveske Gen 1 Lower
Larue MBT Trigger
Knights Arm Co Ambi Selector
Various CMMG Lower parts
Local Gun Store random Pistol RE, Maybe Guntech?
Also have KAC Ambi Mag Release ordered

PSA Premium CHF FN 10.5 Barreled upper.
Changed Handguard to a KAC RAS
KAC Forgrip
KAC Rail Covers
BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle
Matech Rear BUIS

Got bored of "plain" black rifles, and a few weeks ago decided to build something fun without a budget. I wanted to go with a 14.5" (pinned/welded), keep it under 6 pounds with optic, but not make any reliability sacrifices to save weight. So its a light build, but I only cut weight where I could without giving something up. And although I had no budget, I didn't set out to just throw the most expensive parts at it that I could. Every part that went into the gun was hand picked to be exactly what I wanted, nothing overlooked.

I went with San Tan Tactical receivers because I liked the aggressive looks, and despite being billet, weren't THAT much heavier than a forged set. They were a bit heavier than is listed on their website, but still not bad.

Lower

AXTS Talon Ambi Safety
AXTS Enhanced Takedown/Pivot Pins
Geissele SD-C Trigger
V7 Buffer Retaining Pin
V7 Lightweight Buffer Tube
V7 Lightweight Castle Nut
MFT Minimalist Stock
Phase 5 Sloped QD End Plate
Spikes ST-T2 Buffer
Sprinco Blue Buffer Spring
Tactical Link PDW Grip
Tactical Link Titanium Grip Screw

Upper

Ballistic Advantage 14.5" .223 Wylde Hanson Mid-length barrel w/ .625 pinned gas block
Spikes Gas Tube
SLR Helix 13.7" MLok Handguard
SLR Synergy Titanium Mini Comp (extended)
SLR Carbon Fiber Rail Panels
SLR Grey Aluminum Crush Washer
Odin Works B1 Handstop
Strike Industries Lightweight Forward Assist
Strike Industries Ultimate Dust Cover - Capsule
Cryptic Coatings (Toolcraft) Mystic Black M16 BCG
Agency Arms Raptor (AXTS) NiB Charging Handle
Holosun / Primary Arms 503G Red Dot w/ ACSS Reticle
SLR Red Dot Mount

Total weight: 5 lbs 13.5 oz (without mag)

All in all, stoked with it. I swapped out a few parts, kind of had trouble figuring out what grip to go with. I like the Magpul MOE grips, and because of the receiver's unique angle on the trigger guard, it was really uncomfortable. The Tactical Link PDW is a little better, but I'm not totally satisfied with that either in that regard.

The only thing I'd probably really do differently is NOT use a titanium compensator. I picked this comp just to try to save a little weight, and give it a unique look, but should've just went with the standard version. I had a find a guy on Craigslist to do the welding, my gunsmith wouldn't weld titanium and others in town hadn't done it either. In the end, I paid a smith to drill and pin it, and then took it over to the welder I found on craigslist to tig weld with titanium. It worked out fine, but was one extra step (and $30 cost) that probably wasn't worth it.

This is my first 14.5" AR, and I think its a HUGE difference in feel of the rifle. It's worth the hassle of pinning/welding (if not SBR'ing) for sure.

I went with San Tan Tactical receivers because I liked the aggressive looks, and despite being billet, weren't THAT much heavier than a forged set. They were a bit heavier than is listed on their website, but still not bad.

Looks Great. Nice selection of parts. I've used alot of the same ones on some of my builds.  I just picked up the TL Grip, but have yet to use it. If you dont like that, I'd suggest a BCM.  Since you are doing a no-expense-spared build, you may want to try my absolutely favorite grip.  They just feel so awesome in the hand.  Executive Ordnance.  The one that feels best to me is the stealth shaped G10 panels.  They are spendy, but to me, worth it on a build like you just did.  I have 4 of them.  But my next fav is the BCM.

Nice! Yeah I looked at those online, I'm not 100% in love with the looks of them plus they add a little weight, but in the end I think I'm going to give them a try. My local gun store is stocking them now, so I'll probably go fondle them when I get back in town.

Just put this one together for a buddy.  He chose the parts primarily from instagram pics.

I cut, threaded then pinned and welded to get the brake set back just right in the handguard.

Yes, I realize the front MBUS is backwards. Just making the most of the little top rail space. Built this pistol from scratch. Had a FDE SB-15, but decided to try the Shockwave Blade. Looks good. Works well. Had the adjustment screw get loose once. So a little dab of blue loctite will do ya. Hasn't had any more problems.

This Ghost Gun lower was Aero Precision's response to CA. Senator DeLeon's ignorant comments about untraceable "Ghost Gun's" and how they can fire 30 rounds in a half second from a .30 Caliber Clip. Ha ha ha. Note the [D] for democrat I presume, in the safe position, ".30 caliber clip in the fire position and /Half Sec in what would be full rock and roll if I had select fire parts. Jerry Miculek actually did a funny video on You Tube with a ".30 caliber clip". I don't know how to do links, but if you google Jerry and .30 caliber clip you'll find his speed drill video. Funny shit! Guys got a good sense of humor.
