With that F.H on it you could put a real stock on it and be better off. Um.. He stated exactly why in the text you quoted. Not hard to take off though is it? Dremel a shallow weld and pop it off. I have never removed one... maybe it is harder than I think? EDIT; the way I am thinking, that the 16" upper was on a a lower or is an extra upper. Subsequently: A. There is a conventionally stocked lower sitting around with no upper that is much better suited to the task of handling all that flash hider weight ..or B. That extra upper that has no home would make an awesome pistol upper without that 4.5 " of flashhider. I say all of this with all due respect to CV23. But in the tradition of AR15.com , why not have one of each |

With that F.H on it you could put a real stock on it and be better off. Because I already had this upper on a carbine and the FH is welded on to be 16" legal. It is on loan to the pistol lower for now. I can now legally build a 10" upper now that I have built a pistol lower.....plus I can, if need be, carry this 16" pistol in my vehicle loaded with my CC Permit until I build a 300AAC/BO pistol upper....to be honest....it will always be fired from my shoulder anyways. I thought about buying a SBR but the paperwork is not worth it.....I have found a alternative that will work just fine. Thanks Sig! I did find a 300 BO 10.5" barrel already that soon will be mine. Also picked up a Wilson Combat complete bolt & carrier on sale at Wilson....very nice, Mike. |

Pipe insulation and zip-ties cost about $5 for way more than I may actually ever need. Also, because I know everyone was waiting with baited breath: She's cycling proper, now. Stepped the gas port up incrementally from it's factory .063 until it would lock open on an empty mag at .086 firing Fiocchi 55gr .223. Also had to replace the extractor spring with a black one and added a crane o-ring for good measure. I'm hitting the range tomorrow and can't wait to get to know her better! |

Isn't your red dot mounted incorrectly in the mount?

Some people prefer installing it that way to prevent the control knob from being banged around. It has no affect on function...

You know what...i didn't even think of rotating it. I figured the knib was to go on bottom to protect it. I tried rotating it as ya'll suggested MUCH better. It was a PITA to adjust the red dot with knob on the bottom. Granted its exposed now, but reality is its a safe queen that gets the occassional rounds fired through it. It is, however, now my favorite home defense weapon now.
Thanks for the tip, guys! I feel kinda dumb now... So.. What do yall think of the gun?? Be honest. |

It's legal. Good for watching out, though. I'm sure there are some lurkers here more knowledgeable than I, however, so I ask the question: is this the minimum OAL, tip of the receiver extension to the end of the muzzle threads or is it the OAL at the time of the VFG being on the firearm, to include any removable muzzle devices? |

Where are you guys getting this info? The ATF reg I read states that mounting a VFG to an AR pistol constitutes an AOW, thereby requiring a federal tax stamp. The MAGPUL AFG is an approved accessory to be used on the AR pistol. There is a problem with this statement. "If the OAL is greater than 26" it becomes a "Firearm" when you attach a VFG. It's legal." The problem is that it is a "firearm" to begin with, regardless of OAL, VFG, AFG, etc. The main problem here is identifying the firearm. Is it a pistol, SBR, or AOW? There are some distinct differences between each of these. |

I think it falls into no mans land.......once over 26" (this is with the permanent parts, you cannot count flash hiders, etc...unless they are perm attached.) they consider it unable to be concealed...or something to the like. It doesn't have a stock, so it isn't a rifle......they call it a "Firearm"......I believe basically because it no longer fits all the other classes....therefore it is ok to have the front vertical grip.
Again......to the best of my knowledge........ |
