I've posted my CAV15/Mega/Noveske build before, but its paint job pretty much turned it into a new rifle.

I just got done with my 300 AAC black out build. Here is a list of parts I used.

SOG Lower $119
White River Armory 300 AAC Blackout Upper $360
M16 BCG $129, Double Star LPK $69 6 Pos Stock

I got a few parts on sale and I actually got all the upper parts loose and assembled them my self. Total build price was actually $700 as I used a Blem upper and Blem bbl.
I got the parts at my favorite shop here in town. I started with a basic scope but dumped it for a EO Tech 512. Here is the grouping at 50 yards on a rest but not in a vice. I forgot the lead sled.  I used Freedom Munitions 147 gr FMJ.

I understand that stock requires mods to the buffer and bolt carrier to work.  Is that correct?  Are you happy with reliability so far and have you had an opportunity to try it suppressed (and/or with subsonics)?

the NEA stock does use a proprietary bolt carrier , it comes with the stock.  the carrier is the buffer also , it uses regular carbine action springs that are cut down a few coils.  it has been dead nuts reliable so far , mostly with 5.56 uppers in 7" , 10.5" , and 11.5".  everything from herter's steel cased to mk 318 mod 0.  with the blackout upper i've only been able to shoot super's (barnes 110gr tac-tx).  as soon as i can find some subs i'll be trying those out , my sdn-6 is still in nfa jail so i haven't shot it suppressed yet

Well I got around to Duracoating my hunting 300BLK AR in my usual 2 tone FDE scheme. I did notice I overlooked 2 parts by the time I cleaned everything up, going to do the CH and BHO in the morning. Of course the bipod is for shooting off the truck hood and bench only.

DPMS Lo-Pro upper(slickside) and lower, assorted manufacture spare parts bin FCG w/JP springs, JP LMOS BCG/captured spring buffer, AR-Stoner ultra light weight barrel, Leupold 1-4x20 1" hog scope, ACE Skeleton stock, JP mid length tube, Lancer 10rd mag.

Could you possibly show this gun next to one with a regular stock? I'm curious as to how much shorter it is.

here is a pic of it with a 7" 5.56 upper , the blackout upper is about 1" longer up front .  notice the height of the grips for comparison.  as pictured with the 7" upper it's oal is 20 7/8" with the stock collapsed. the sig and 11.5" don't have their stocks fully collapsed.

from left to right : 12.5" ar-10 , 10" sig 556 , 7" upper with the NEA stock , 10.5" ar 15 , 11.5" ar 15

with the stock fully extended

length compared to the sig 10"

1iviper, thanks for that. I will definitely have to look into one of those stocks. I've been wanting to make something that is super short and still function properly when the need arises unlike that folding stock out there that you have to open up before firing. Looks like I may need to find a shorter 300Blk barrel to shave a few inches off the 10.5" I have now and leave it be like it is now with the UBR stock.

Edit 1--- BTW: Great looking guns.

Edit 2--- I just noticed that's an SLR rail you have installed. How you like it and anything you can say about it? I've been looking at options for a rail system for another build and I like the looks of theirs because I don't need full rails on the sides and am not paying what Wilson wants for their rails like that.

thanks man.  the SLR rail is pretty nice.  my intention was to cut it up into a pistol fsb rail for my 7" upper but i liked the rail so much i cut down the fsb instead  the machining is very nice with no real sharp edges , very "soft" or smooth to hold.  the rails install very easy with no special tools needed.  they have a new key mod rail out also that looks pretty nice.   for the price they're hard to beat , i just wish they had built in qd sockets but there are plenty of sling attachment options out there.

I honestly didn't know the difference until someone told me! The controls on the left make more sense to me anyway, I know thats NOT how aimpoint does it though. Thinking about it, you can adjust the brightness with your weak hand while still shouldering the rifle.

yes , with a vfg and sling it works out well.  function is not impeded with the stock collapsed.  the left adjustment bar comes close to covering the safety but i've had no problems manipulating it with the stock closed.

That is the Magpul UBR stock without the stock part attached. After he SBRs it, he will then attached the actual stock part to it.

ETA: And let me say this. The UBR is a rock solid stock and very well built. It does have some weight to it, but it is still a great stock.
