Any word on about what length the rail system is on this puppy? From the pics and videos, I have seen both a mid length and a rifle length rail system. The pic on Colt's website appears to be about rifle length.

Kinda like LMT with their MRP. Considering that Colt's catalog and website show the longer version, I'm inclined to say that's most likely the one. I'm not sure how likely it is that they'll have an SBR available in the SP901, maybe if they come out with an LE901 they might |

I just called Colt to see if they are planning on releasing the SP901 in multiple colors at the beginning or if it would just be black. The girl on the other end of the phone told me they didn't have any information on its release

I wish they'd lose the quad-rail. It looks kinda bulky to me. A full top rail with modular rail panels for the sides and bottom would probably cut a half pound at least.
Otherwise I really like the design. |
|
|
I've got the 6940 with the monolithic thingie.
Big rail up front looks like it should be heavy. Nope. Light as a feather. Definitely lighter than a 6920 with one of the aftermarket bolt-on jobbies. I had to hang extra shit on the gun just to get enough weight on it so it wouldn't vibrate like a popsicle stick. |

I wish someone would come out with that for ar15's. |

Anyone heard what the roll mark is going to be on these bad boys? I hope they do like they did with their new SP6920s and not mark them SPORTER...
Also any word on any of these being factory SBR? |

I sold most of them and went back to skinny handguards and MOE handguards, But, since I do not see myself running and gunning with 7.62 not as much of an issue, I suppose. Either way, this is going to be the only time I am going to jump on first run production of anything. |

According to the ammoland.com article the buffer must be swapped for caliber conversion. Didn't early reports claim no buffer/spring changes were necessary?
Not a criticism, just curious. |

I don't recall anything saying it was a single buffer system, although that was my biggest question from the get go.
Not a surprise but I will admit that I thought Colt had worked with VLTOR and had come up with some awesome hybrid buffer that worked for both. I am a little disappointed, but when I say "a little", I really mean it. To me the 901 is a .308 gun and that's it. The whole changing calibers thing is not appealing to me at all. I already have my 5.56 guns. I don't need another. As long as the weight and balance is good and the accuracy is what I would expect from Colt, then this gun will sell like crazy. Especially at the price Colt is MSRP'ing it. In the end, I feel like we the consumers are the most fortunate here. |

Mine will stay a dedicated 7.62 for sure. I have plenty of 5.56 Colts to play with so I'm not concerned with the buffer.
Just checked into our room in Vegas...will play with this thing more on Tuesday for sure! |

Here's a couple of videos about the 901 from the shot show. The second one answer the all important question of how it all works.
Colt LE901 Intro LE901 .308 to 5.56 conversion Also, Colt's facebook page says the 901 will be available in March . |

I definitely agree that people with multiple ARs are pretty lucky. I'm still in grad school and have limited funds. I have one 5.56 AR and I have wanted a .308 AR, but without the huge price increase. I have definitely been contemplating the .308 LMT, but I'd rather get the Colt.

I'm just going to go ahead and say that I officially am saving my pennies for this. I need a new laptop, which will necessarily be a higher priority, but I'm going to squirrel away a little each payday until I can afford one of these. Probably by the time they're available in either tan or digital desert, at this rate...

I dont know where you are even getting info about a hybrid 901 all we have seen is a refrence to a hybrid 6940 from over a year ago, adn that was for a 556 gun the hybrid is barely more then a myth and has no plans of being made right now and as such is not relevant to this thread. I suggest asking the colt rep on facebook about news of the hybrid or starting another thread on it and asking the colt rep here that posts names Brent. since this thread is for the SP901/CM901 I will not be updating it with info on a vaporware gun that wont be made until the distant future if at all man |

Moral of the story is.. Colt can be frustrating because they design a lot of guns that never see the light of day. We have a pretty good feeling that this 901 gun LE901-16S, or SP901, or whatever the model number is going to be, will in fact be made, but who knows... Until I see a civilian with a particular gun in hand, it's all vaporware to me.
