My buddy and I are looking for some shooting medium-long range competitions in New Mexico to get into. Nothing too insane like the Sniper Adventure Challenge...but maybe a diet  version would be cool. We live down in Clovis but driving to ABQ or Raton is easily done. Neither of us have ever shot in a competition before and I think it would be a great way to learn a great amount and better our skills. We are getting pretty tired of punching paper at 300yds at the local range. I am going to try to make it to a DNGC Outback Match or Raton Sporting Rifle Match this summer, but any other inputs and events are more than welcome. Thanks in advance fella's.

Capitan
The Service Rifle guys there are very helpful. I have not shot any of their F class events.

Zia
I Have not shot at any of their events.

Probably more in the line of what you're looking for. This is in the competition area of the Hide, and it usually has a good selection of upcoming comps.

ETA #2: TBAC team challenge

I think they hold some kind of matches at Roswell, but not sure.  You can search the internet and find the details or else find the phone number for info.

Seems like I heard Capitan was going to drop high power, but still run Class F, if that;s what you'd like.

I'm honestly not too sure what I want to compete in. Just something that I can learn from and push myself farther than punching paper at Patriots 300yd range. Any suggestions?

Sept in Pecos, TX Course of fire.

It isn't a "sniper" match, but will present it's own challenges.

What kind of rifle are you wanting to compete with? Do you want to do some movement between stages, or set up on a firing line and shoot groups at distance? What is your tolerance for expenses?

I shoot Zia and del norte almost every match

They are both a ton of fun.

Both are very welcoming to new shooters

The Raton sporting rifle match is a great time as well. Very tough when the wind is switching
