Got laid off in October from a shutdown and just relocated back to Alaska and looking for work. Things aren't looking too great, everything is pretty thin right now due to oil $$$. Anyone here know of any leads? I've been applying for entry level work/ laborer. Experience is in scaffolding for just under 2 years, 1 year maintenance tech, and some roustabout experience. Pretty open to whatever is going to pay a good hand. Any help towards the right direction would be much appreciated at this time.

I don't have any experience in the field, but check the websites for Doyon, Petrostar, etc.

This is one of them, and the Alaska Job Bank is another.

Good luck.  If you have no history of being on the slope, you don't stand much of a chance of getting a job up there.  The slope was always my plan B, but with the drop in oil prices it is a non-starter.

Even if you know people who hire people, it is a no-go.

Even my BP and Conoco friends are sweating every day now, wondering if they will have a job at the end of the week.  One of them is in project management, and he is taking retirement in a couple months to just break the stress.

My new plan B is leaving the state.  Work here - the kind of work where you make bank - is getting really scarce.

There is a Shut Down coming up at the Tesoro Refinery in the Kenai area, I think Peak has most of the contract work, I can get more information if you'd like, the offshore work in the Inlet is dead and there's not much going on up North, I've got a few buddies up North that are close enough to retiring they want to get whacked.
Alaska is a lot like it was in the mid 80s when it does comes back it will be with a vengeance.

I was working on the slope for ASRC, got laid off on the last shutdown. Unfortunately even if you know people there aren't too many jobs to choose from and most companies up there are just trying to stay afloat. Its pretty much how the industry goes... Thanks for the info

Might not be the pay you were used to, but there are some seismic companies working up here.

Tell ya what electricians , carpenters and actual rig operators I know are getting laid off. You getting a slope gig with stability and no TWIC card or Cold weather training courses might be tough

I forgot this, and I get  semi-daily email from them :   http://www.alaskapipelinejobinfo.com/alaska-north-slope-jobs-resources.html

I am a poor fit for nearly all of them, so I have it going to junk mail.

Dan Sullivan just told the Alaska Legislature that in addition to the huge upgrades at Greely, Clear was also going to see "hundreds of millions" of upgrades in the near future

He did however start to say something about the F35s being here soon and corrected himself to say maybe they will be here in the next 3-5 years

You would think if the 35's were coming that soon they would be redoing hangers now for them, just like they did for the new raptor hangers on JBER....

What is a TWIC card?

I'm "on hold" for getting my 1st slope job due to Conoco Phillips putting a hiring freeze in effect.

TWIC

Never heard it called that before and I've lived here 50 years.  I thought a TWIC card was a slope thing.  Why not call it a driving record or driver's extract??

It's more of a security risk assessment if your working in a security controlled area.

Most Slope jobs aren't going to require a TWIC card that I know of. Down in Kenai on the shutdown for Tesoro is an actual refinery so a TWIC card is mandatory. It isn't hard to get, usually take 2 months for it to show up once you apply if your job is requiring it.

Last we heard out here, F35's will touch down sometime in 2020. They will be putting up new hangers starting as early as next year. The plan is to have 2 squadrons, around 54 planes, and 2500+ more people to the base.
