I've taken the test 3 times and still haven't been hired in the Personnel Board. I currently work for two fire departments outside the PBJC. There's no telling who will be grading his "interview" (I say it like that because you get to write down your answers and speak them into a camera).
The advice I've been given is: 1. Safety comes first, your safety, then your crews, then the public. 2. Use chain of command. If you have a personal conflict with someone go to him first then your officer. 3. Rat other people out. If you see somebody doing something illegal/unethical always tell your officer. Thanks but this is just the first phase.
I ran into a guy yesterday at Hoover Tac that made it all the way to actual interviews with B'ham FD and did not get hired. |

get him through the personnel board tests and on the list. don;t let him get discouraged if bham doesn't pick him up. it's competitive and the AA bs with bham is insane. i have a few buddies that work there and they swear they'd never get hired today.

For example there may be 5 people ranked #1, 7 ranked #2 so on and so forth. At that ranking only Birmingham would get his name. You need to be in the top 15 to get a call from any other department. But Birmingham has made some positive changes, it's a really good place to work. |

Good stuff. Congrats we train a lot with FD on the guard side. Absolute professionals. From their instructors and coursework, I've learned a LOT.
