Anyone bring home some venison this weekend?
Didn't see one deer all weekend in 16 hours of hunting. |

No, life got in the way of hunting this weekend I've got Thursday through Monday of next week off work, so hopefully I'll have some venison in the freezer soon.

Last weekend all I saw was does and zero bucks, too bad it wasn't a doe day. BIL shoot a decent 17.5" wide 8pt.
Last Friday I saw a spike, 8pt, 6pt and two does that snuck behind me. All bucks got a "grow pass" but damn I wanted one of those does. Tuesday of this week I also saw a real nice 8pt just on the cusp of being a shooter. Tall, decent mass but only about 15" wide...... next year he'll be a nice one. Rut as of last weekend doesn't seem to be in full swing yet. I am hoping this Fri/Sat it's going nuts w/ chases everywhere |
|
Tagged out in bucks the first week of muzzleloader, two 8's. Have taken a coworker out a few times since, we haven't seen much.
|
|
got 2 in Sept. back at it wednesday after work, and thompson wma on saturday
|
|
Didn't kill one, but did have one run into the car the other night...
Saw them coming across the cornfield, stopped, f***g doe still ran into the fender, somersaulted around, pushed in the fuel door, then ran off. |

Post a pic of the 8 pointers. Thanks. Got both out of the same stand. The bigger one came out 10 minutes after I sat down, the other about 30 minutes after. Didn't know that either was that big when I shot them.

Definitely should have let that second one walk it's tiny and kill a doe instead ...... Sorry just thinking out loud.

Venison vittles! View Quote That looks tasty! Who do you use for a processor? I'm going out Thursday through Monday, and I really hope I'll have more luck with a shotgun than with a bow. I'm curious who you might recommend near the Sterling/Ashburn/Leesburg area (I'm assuming I'll need to drive a bit farther west or north to get out of suburbia to find a processor). |
|
I never looked in that area but closest I know of to Leesburg is Linthicum Custom Slaughtering there is also one off RT15 & Braddock Rd but don't have any info on it, but will post it when I do.

Second deer was older and bigger bodied than the bigger racked deer. Smaller 8 was 5.5, bigger 8 was 3.5. On my farm, you shoot em when you see them. Rare to see a buck in the open during the daylight. The smaller 8 was spotted in that field twice over the summer/fall. No one had ever seen the bigger 8. |
|
No luck so far. I've not seen a buck on my food plot game camera in at least 3 years, day or night. I haven't seen a doe during daylight since I jumped two while heading to a stand during archery season-like an idiot. Hunting on a tiny patch of land is unforgiving of mistakes. I doubt I'll see anything more on my property till next spring, unless the neighbors start running dogs through the dense forest across the road. There's too many houses around now, and they've cut off the paths that the deer used to take from the large heavily wooded cover areas to get to my tasty food plot (clover, mixed greens and turnips this year).
Off to the barren wasteland of the local WMAs for me.... |

I looked at the initial picture and thought, Hey that looks just like the wrapping my butcher uses. Then you said it was Mark. He did my doe a couple weeks back too.
