My two favorite rifles:R1 along with my Egyptian FN49. The lighting in my house sucks and this is the best picture I could get. The R1 is built on an IMBEL receiver.

Edit: I can't resize the picture without losing a lot of the quality, so here's the link: R1 and FN49

Yes that is hardened plastic on the exposed barrel. My dad accidentally grabbed it with his glove. He laughed at it.

He's black and tan...  I think the camera just made him look a little different.

I thought mine was big at 103 pounds.

180?  God Almighty.  Mine can knock over or break anything..  Yours can probably accidently goes through a wall.  I hope yours is not as clumsy as mine.

He's clumsy inside the house, especially with smooth floors. Think demolition derby
Years ago when he was going through the terrible 2's he got mad at the dripping hose bib in the back yard and broke the water pipe, had water gushing down the neighbors driveway. When I came home I found him in the corner of the back yard with his paw over his head. I was so pissed I didn't yell or scream or even punish him, believe me I really wanted to do more, I just shook my head and fixed the plumbing, he didn't move and watched me the whole time. That was the last time he did carnage again. I was told that dogs don't know between right or wrong...

Sorry for the thread hyjack.

Whats that cross looking tool by the pistol grip?
Belgian Front Sight Tool - Link Never used it, came with the carbine and it was already sighted in.

Dan,

Best of luck with the CA/FAL, I know complying with CA laws can be a challenge. Start a thread if you want to let us know how it shoots and talk about the challenges of building a FAL with the state AWB restrictions. I would definitely be interested in the story.

I love animals, man.  Cats and dogs make great friends, and deer, pigs, and cows make great dinner.

Here's a contradiction to all the lovely FAL's on here, my dirty old 1962 Australian built, Ex-New Zealand Army L1A1.
Not much blue left on the old girl. She has a new gas tube, otherwise original.
Still shoots very well in Service rifle matches, and can occasionally do OK in 3-gun.

Rumour is our SAS boys have been using them (New ones of course) in Afghanistan for that extra range compared to the current mouse guns...

Recent project: Imbel on DSA.  My first FAL build, first try at Duracoat.  Bubba'd the barrel flats pretty good, but otherwise pleased with the result.  Runs good so far. Duracoat colors are desert beige and matte black.  Please note matching flashlight (it's tactical).

StG58CP; 18", no carry handle cut, Belgian muzzle device. Added Imbel handguards,  Schneider Machine folding cocking handle. Removed the bipod. Looked like a dead ringer for a 50.63 (minus the finish), but the grip angle was bothering me so I put the FN M249 grip on it; which was a HUGE improvement (and adds some storage).

Well here's my first FAL - a CGW built Imbel FAL with 18" barrel:

And from the "just got it today" lineup an PAC/IAI Imbel M444 (which I refinished w/ Duracoat - Matte Black/Steyr AUG green).

I originally refinished if for a buddy looking to sell, then he ends today asking if I want it - along WITH the Tasco Super Sniper scope...$600  Finally I'm on the receiving end of a "awesome deal!"

Yesterday ended up being beautiful. Nothing better than being up in the woods blasting away... .

Another shot showing more of the scenery:

I think you'll love your carbine... I know I love mine. This is my first FAL and honestly I couldn't be any happier so far. I am still waiting on a free float handguard and SAW grip (backordered from DSA).

I think I'm gonna love it!

You'll want another one.   Trust me.  I was told at the range the first day I took my Predator out that I was going to love it and I would want more of them and so it has come to pass.  I'm laying out the cash for a carbine.  Someday I may pop for the SPR but they really need to get some specifics out on a rifle that expensive.  For that money I expect some solid numbers on accuracy,

Anyway I digress.  That's a nice rifle and a lovely setting for shooting it.  I seriously love the platform and I think I'm starting ot like them more than ARs
