I am thinking about welding a trifecta muzzle brake on my 14.5" barrel. how would the brake be measured? longest prong? shortest prong?

It goes to the longest prong.

The way they test length is to close the bolt, and put a solid cleaning rod down until it hits the bolt face. The rod is marked to show the longest point on the barrel that is not removable - in this case the longest prong (after it's been pinned/welded), and the distance from the end of the rod to the mark is measured.

Trifecta mounts vary, even for the same caliber.
