In FDE worth it for $499?  Would mostly be a range toy.  Already have plenty of Glock mags.

That is pretty high for a Sub 2000.  I got both of mine for $349 at my local dealer last year.  The most I would pay is $399 for an FDE one.  You can get a Nickel Boron finished Sub2000 for mid $400s.
