Tony I have an M16a1 carbine I got about 15 years ago from Kent Lamont.
It was sold to me as a factory original carbine. Serial number is 9270***.
My question is what color should the lower reciever be on a factory gun.
This one looks almost black while the upper is grey.

Thanks for you time.

Im trying to post a picture but its not working. Can I email some to you?

Yes the blue paint is there on the buffer tube. Not much left but some. Also a little on the left side by the bolt release.

Thanks.
Yea ive seen other mismatched guns around, just never really payed attention to the lower colors. I know some were grey and some greenish.
Cant find any pics of a black one like that. Just curious is all. Hopeing it wasnt refinished prior to me owning it.

Not trying to be nitpickey, but your KNS pins are backwards. The solid pin with the flat pieces on the end is the stronger of the two pins and it replaces the hammer pin. The pin that is thread on both ends and that the retaining screws go into replaces the trigger pin.

Oh my!! Thanks for pointing that out. Will fix it. Funny thing is they have been in there for years. Pretty strong stuff.

you may want to inspect hammer if the solid pin was in there it doesn't have the grove for the j spring. make sure the hammer and trigger holes are not egg shaped ( I doubt it), but just check them that's why some guys done like running kns pins they can hide faults.

do you have pictures of the whole gun? does it have a 14.5 barrel? metal stock?
I would love to have a m16 like yours.

Only pic I have on my phone. Yes 14 1/2 pencil barrel. Rubber coated alum buttstock.

Thanks for the info on the pins. I will give it a look tommorow.

So after closer inspection while turning the KNS pins around, ( thx HKILLER), Ive located what appears to me as a faint bit of the blue marking paint Colt used to show both upper and lower left the factory as one unit. Telling me it is indeed the original factory finish.

What do you think?
