AEM2is NOT quiet.

AEM3 is barely below 140db and has a much higher pitch than an AEM5.

AEM4 and AEM5 are similar in tone as they share the same baffle stack.

I'm a big fan of the AEM2 on the Holland & while it is noticeably louder than the 12th, it's also noticeably lighter & shorter which is just the benefit I was looking for when I swapped collars out to run it. The AEM2 & 15th sound very similar in performance to my ear & neither bothers me to shoot w/out hearing protection. YMMV

Good info, thanks. May pick up the adapter & swap back to the M5 collar for more versatility.

anyone using an adjustable gas block with theirs? Needed with 18" barrel?

I use one on my sbrs and 16" but have no experience with the AEM5 on a 18"/rifle length gas.

Thanks

Have shot on both 16" and 18" and feel like an adjustable would be a waste. Obviously there are a lot of variables upper to upper but I would save the money.

Thank you both. That is helpful. Found one locally just have to decide on it. Not 100% sure I would do a true clone for it but trying to decide.

I too love the AEM2. Mine is on a 14.5 larue stealth and it's quieter than I thought it would be. I'm building an 11.5 that it will share time on but I need Ron to make me a custom mount so I can use my fortis extended carbine fsb cutout rail.

If anyone is looking for an AEM5 check with Tar Heel State Firearms.

Also, has anyone purchased a complete Mk12 upper from ADCO, PRI or HCS?

I think I saw that Hansohn has AEM5s too.
I'm way to bad with money to save and buy a complete upper correctly profiled BA barrel and A2 stock in hand for my Mod 1 build

They've had them listed, but I can't seem to find them on their website anymore. Good thing Because I might be tempted to pick one up right now

Nice thread, I'm getting on board the train.

I have a Mk12 with an AEM5 and am looking to build another rifle which can use this can. I've been collecting parts with the Larue BuilAR offers and should take delivery of an upper and 13 inch rail.

What's the best option for 16 inch barrels?

I used a ballistic advantage 16" government profile stainless barrel, it came profiled for the ops 12th collar. It should be described as such on their website.

A few guns. An AEM3 and AEM5. The MK12 is using a White Oak Armament barrel and long collar, the 16" Recon next to it is using a Daniel Defense barrel and M4 profile collar, both with brake mounts.

The second image is a KISS build using a Ballistic Advantage 16" Midlength barrel and ADCO AE Comp and M4 profile collar.

Bottom is an older picture of my 11.5" BCM upper. Used to have a KMR10 and low pro gas block before it was suppressed, more recently rocking a PRI Front Sight Gas Block and KMR7. Can mounts to an ADCO AE Comp sitting in front of a Collar Adapter Extender to clear the PRI Front Sight Gas Block...which is a little bit longer, but necessary...it's still shorter with the can mounted than the 16" guns.

If you already have an AEM5 collar, there is really no need to swap to an AEM2/AEM3/AEM4 collar to use your AEM2 or AEM3/OPS 15th model. There is an adapter the goes over the AEM5 collar that allows the AEM2/AEM3/AEM4 to mount to it.

Good info, thanks. May pick up the adapter & swap back to the M5 collar for more versatility.

Ahead of the story, I just wanted to say thanks to Ron for taking time out of his day(s) to talk at length on the phone. Much thanks to Steve from ADCO for his help as well.

If there is anyone in the thread that wants AE or Ops Inc setup pictures included in the post (that I haven't already talked with) please repost the image and I'll have it added by Monday. I'll credit you with your user name.

Thanks to you all.
