Sorry I did not see your post earlier. Below is a photo of the paint and mesh that I used in the process. I first applied a krylon khaki base coat. I went through and just sprayed portions of brown and green with the mesh. There was no real rhyme or reason in my pattern. All in all the process took about 30min. I cut the mesh out of an old bug net my son had.

Paint is krylon khaki, krylon woodland light green, and rustoleum earth Brown.

Sorry I missed the question, but it was mostly rustoleum deep forest green with a little army green.

Aervoe earth yellow base.  Two/three coats.
Krylon brown through the mesh.
Aervoe woodland green on top to break it up.

It should wear in nicely.

I'll take better pics hopefully this weekend out in some better environments.  This was just some quick teaser pics for myself after clearing em.

Rustoleum and Krylon paints with a final clear of Testor's DullCoat which i've found to be the best clear coat option for these camo schemes.

Just got this done tonight. Not 100% happy with how it turned out. Mostly unhappy because nobody had the colors I wanted to use in stock and I'm kind of inpatient. It was meant as a test for the pattern itself. I am finishing an 18" 308 shortly and wanted to do it in something different. This gun is my guinea pig so see if the pattern pleased the eye in general. Overall I think it looks rad, but would definitely change up some of the colors I used to try to achieve more of a Highlander theme. Also this one is posted for you RTUtah. Your nagging posts made me spend money on spray paint and stencils. Its been a while since i had a rattle canned specimen in the stable so this was long overdue. Stencils were bought from a meber on here also...BlownDeadline. His pics are in the Kryptek thread, and are badass. Pics...

Just had a very specific idea of what I wanted it to look like and while it was close it wasn't right on. It was just getting to the point that paint was going to start getting thick if I kept trying to get exactly what I wanted. I'm not going to strip it off and redo it or anything like that, but now I know what to do when I paint my 308. Main thing was the other brown I used was more of a red brown and I was looking for a brown in between the dark brown and the tan. Greens seem to be spot on though. It was fun to do that's for sure.

I've been inspired by this thread, and am ready to take the plung on a rattle can camo job on my 300BLK.

Before I jumped in fully, I decided to test out my technique on a PMAG.

Like most of you, I sprayed the entire mag wiht ultra flat khaki to start, then laid over some long blades of grass I pulled out of our garden.  I over sprayed with ultra flat olive drab, and with ultra flat dark earth brown.  I removed the grass and did a very light dusting with some gray primer.

I thought it turned out ok for the first try, so will probably venture into doing the full rifle now.   Any tips on how long it takes the spray paint smell to go away?  I plan to deer hunt this fall with the gun (in pistol form according to state law), so hopefully it won't still smell like fresh spray paint then.

Took the plunge and rattle can'd my truck gun.  Yep, your eyes aren't fooling you...that's an ATI 2nd gen polymer lower that I'm running.  Figured I'd paint something like that to pop my cherry and then work up to some of my nicer guns, including my 300BLK SBR.

Colors:

Rustoleum Khaki Base
Krylon OD
Rustoleum Dark Earth
Dusting of Rustoleum Flat Gray Primer

Used some weeds from our garden to break things up a bit, and also used the "splatter" technique by just barely pressing the nozzle to get it to sputter out droplets instead of a fine mist.   My goal was breaking up the outline more than actually trying to match a given terrain.  Here in Indiana we have a pretty broad color spectrum...from reds, oranges and browns and greys in the fall and winter, to all sorts of vibrand yellows and greens in the spring thru early fall.  This pattern should be good for fall hunting season as most of the trees in the woods at ground level have more of a brown / gray look to them, especially with the shadows of the canopy.

Thanks!  Probably give that a go this weekend.  Hunting season is < 2 months away so want to get it painted and get that "new paint job smell" off of it.

So...real question is how much to mask off on my Aimpoint in LaRue M68 CCO mount.   Just 'fo and paint it all, or mask off the logo on each so if I ever change optics I have better chance of resale?

Personally, i just close the caps, cover any light bezels, plug the barrel, and paint away.

If you want to be able to remove it easily, dont paint anything made of rubber.

Best of luck to you!
