Has the SIG Mosquirto been improved to where it's actually worth buying?

I love my mosquito, works fine. I always shoot CCI mini mags though.

Seems to be about the same risk as buying a P22... Only you pay more for the Sig.

It really is a shame, because I wanted one pretty badly even before they came out.
I saw some pics and a review of the pistol on the SigForum before it was released IIRC.

I bought one of the TB models when they first came out and have never had problems.  Gun is run 99.5% of the time with an Outback II and I have roughly 10k rounds through it.  It is my primary range gun since it's so fun and inexpensive to shoot.

Buy with confidence.

So I guess things have changed with the SigMos and we've all been touting the same old lines?

Maybe I should start parroting what JCUS said about the S/N range and see if we can't get any guineas to buy a few... Hopefully they'll report good things.

If not, I may end up with one soon enough and I'll post an AAR.

Neat pic, catching the slide in action.

The suppressor certainly doesn't help any...
Now I need to reconsider the Pac-Lite upper and look into the Mosquito again. Would make a nice platform for the AAC Pilot.

Just what I needed, another tough decision.

I just bought one from Jason and I've put 250rds through it with all sorts of ammo, golden bullets actually suprised me!  CCI minis and Stingers are good too but cost a little more.
I also have the P22 and have only had a few problems in the begining but as far as accuracy between them my vote is for the Sig!

Good luck with your new pistol!

Well, a Mosquito followed me home from the gun show today.  I decided I wanted a .22 pistol, but previously dismissed the Mosquito due to price and the problems I read about online.  I had pretty much decided on a Buckmark.
BUT, lo and behold, what did I find?  A NIB plain jane Mosquito for $269 plus tax.  I just couldn't resist.  Can't wait to try her out.
Oh yeah, the serial number is in the A061XXX range.  Hopefully it won't have any problems.

Field strip it and lube it up right out of the box.(Sig BARELY lubes it from the factory)

Most problems occur when fired straight out of the box.

Use CCI Mini Mags for the first 500 rounds.
I like federal bulk pack or Federal American Eagle.

Mine didn't like Remington bulk pack.

Accuracy is good and it is hitting on target now. I shot offhand at distances 40-140 yards, and it appears to be sighted in as my other pistols are. (I'll shoot some groups on paper from a rest at shorter distances soon). This was a relief for me, since I really didn't have a back-up plan if the taller front sight didn't fix the problem.

The only failure was on round (1)93, when the slide didn't close all the way, preventing it from firing. I pushed it forward (it went very easily), and then it was allowed to fire with another trigger squeeze.

That brings our failure rate to 1.5%, or our success rate to 98.5% in the first 200 rounds fired in this NIB & unmodified Sig Mosquito.

I notice the green dots aren't really very bright. Not sure if they're really all that useful, or if I'm just too old fashioned to notice them. Not a negative in my mind, but not a big positive either. (my fuddish background probably wouldn't allow me to appreciate them anyhow )

All in all, my admiration of the little pistol jumped further up again today, as I find myself liking it much more than I ever thought I would. Super smooth, extremely comfortable, and overall, a handful of fun!

I may order another one, in the threaded version, if this one continues to shine.

Glad you posted - Mine was shooting high with CCI too & i did'nt realize i had a taller front sight in the box Guess i shud look closer when i buy a new gun
Also got two extra Mags from AIM for $30 ea

I'm still running anywhere between 500-1000 rounds through my Mosquito per week with no problems.  It's run with an Outback II and Rem Sub-sonic.  It's my primary range gun since it's cheap to run and a ton of fun.

That said, I just got a Charger and had the barrel threaded last weekend.  It's a tad more fun with the hi-cap mags.

I bought a Mosquito 65XXX serial number Monday.

Ive put about 300+ through it so far and had 1-2 FTE in every mag. I have lubed the gun to no avail.

The ammo was Rem and Federal bulk pack...

I love how the gun feels but damn thats shitty reliability.

something.....interesting i found with mine:

i took it to the range along with my 226 and a lady friend. she liked the Mozzie and the mk12, but more on that later. i loaded the mag, chambered, aimed at target and pulled trigger. pow.  pulled trigger. click. tap, rack, pow. click. again, tap, rack, pow. click.
thought to my self " every other round bad?  not with my luck. so i went to "workstation" and guess what?? the slide safety was on. it fired every other round with the safety on.  so i flipped it off, and emptied the mag.  i'm used to pistols with no safety, so i didn't feel unsafe with it, and didn't check the safety before i started shooting, but it made me think. can't wait for the .22 kit for the 226.

"no mechanical safety is 'safe'"

"well, this is my safety sir" Hoot from BHD, wiggling trigger finger

I picked up a Mosquito today at the gun show.  It's a 63xxx gently USED gun.  It came with two mags and cost me $340 out the door.  You can't tell it's even used, and obviously a more recent serial #.  I can't wait to get out and shoot it.  So question....

What recoil spring are you guys using?  I'm wondering if you guys who are having trouble with the slide going back into battery fully aren't using the light spring???  They come with a light and heavy spring - which ones are you guys using with WHICH ammo.  I plan on using CCI's, so which spring should I have in?

Bought a Skeeter a few months ago.  Great gun.  Just clean it an break it in properly and you will have a reliable and fun gun.

New skeeter owner here.  New reverse 2-tone SN F012XXX.  Didn't clean it to start with.  Ran a quick 100 CCI mini-mags through it at the range (with the installed "white" spring)...not one problem at all.
DA trigger is smooth but long and strong.
Single action is a long, light take-up, then a crisp break.  Accuracy so far is just so-so, but I've got to spend more time with it and different ammo makes.
Got it for $320 including tax and transfer out the door.

I finally bought a Mos about a month ago.  Mine seems to feed and eject fine, but the trigger sticks in the rear position and I have to push it forward manually to reset it.  There is spring tension because when I start to push it forward it pops the rest of the way forward.  I've cleaned and lubed as best as I can but it still does it.  I guess all the new ones aren't trouble free.

I have the special edition digital desert tan. Mine does well with minimags and federal bulk. I did take it apart and polish some things inside. It helps the trigger a lot but nott the weight of pulll to much. I  do ewnjoy shooting it as it is cheap and fun to shoot.

Yes!

I have a Sig Mosquito Sport with the extended barrel, I have NEVER had a failure,  I shoot Bulk Federal Copper Plated Hollow Point's from Walmart.

NEVER shoot lead bullets with out a copper plating.   But why would you anyway when the Federal Bulk Pack's are soo cheap..

I have also shot CCI Mini-Mags and CCI Stingers out of the Mosquito, again no issues with any of them.

Just make sure if you get a Mosquito that you get one that comes with 2 springs, the white one (Softer Spring) should be installed from the factory.

Kind of old thread, but I just traded my buckmark for a Sig. I carry a 228, nightstand and glove box guns are 226.

Figured it would be best to try to keep them all consistent, and my wife will practice more with a 22.

So my questions are, I got two springs. One longer and one short. Which would be the best for subs since it will also be suppressed 99% of the time.

Also are there any sites to show the modifications listed to make it more reliable.

The buckmark was one of my favorite guns. I really hope this is reliable

Trade a lovely Buckmark for a Sig .22?   Not me!  Have owned them both and I can't forget the joy of the day I got rid of that Sig.  I would trade one Buckmark for ten of the Sigs. But, YMMV.

I have owned mine for three years and shoot it often. Never had any trouble, but always shoot CCI Stingers.
