Generally, yes, but also consider what rear sight (and its height) that you need/want to pair it with.

Reading Millet's Dual crimp installation directions might also be key in considering which front sight to use. http://www.millettsights.com/downloads/dualcrimp.pdf

Look at https://kcskustomcreations.com/meu-soc-variations-and-price-list/ and he discusses when Millett's tenon and dual crimp sights were used, and how they were installed by PWS

FWIW, it might also be worth asking kcskustomcreations what it would cost to send in your slide and have him install his Millet-clone front and MEUSOC rear sights.

As a sidebar, my 1987 Colt Combat Elite is getting something of a MEUSOC inspired makeover. I've been gathering parts and tools, like a .315 tall narrow tenon Millett serrated front ramp, as well as a few of the "PWS2112"-made rear sights .

I just got in a Strobel Front Sight Installation and Removal Tool (works for wide and narrow tenon) from Midway, and when I've finished, might be up to doing something akin to the AR-15.com "Tool Loan" thread.

Thanks! This one will be a variant 2, Springfield slide with cannons to rear of eject port, gov frame, Clark’s/kings, etc. Havent found a rear sight yet but stumbled across this front sight and remembered they were .225.

ETA: Valor will be doing this build. Love the variant 5 he did for me.

What are my options for recerakoting a non decommissioned USMC marked slide M45a1? The FDE cerakote finish is pretty worn and chipped in certain areas from use and Im looking to get it looking like new again. I know that the initial cerakote on these, decommissioned, and contract M45a1 guns were contracted out in H-199 Desert Sand by Giovanni at Liberty Coatings by Colt. I spoke with briefly with him and he stated that the markings on the right hand of the frame (colt markings, serial, UID, cage, etc) were laser engraved black post cerakote by Colt. What would be my options for keeping the laser engravings intact as I don't want them filled in with cerakote, or would I be able to get them relasered post cerakote over the original engravings after cerakote?

I asked about using Aluma-Hyde on the previous page and didn't get any responses. I'm just going to go ahead and do it my Loaded barrel and bushing.

I just can't seem to find the matte black in stock anywhere. A month or so ago I had the idea and signed up for Brownell's "notify me when in stock" deal and seems to never get restocked.

Even went on ebay and they have every color available EXCEPT matte black.

Anyone here that has used it to do their barrel/bushing or other small project and have the can sitting around collecting dust want to sell it to me? Please PM me. Thanks.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, if you have a better suggestion, let me know.

Hey fellas,
I'm looking to trade a Springfield V2 slide with KC Kustom sights for a Springfield V4 slide.  I have it posted in the EE.

I have a V1 setup already and looking to add a later variant.  If you don't mind passing along the info to anyone interested.  Thank you!

Can anyone comment on the KC ambi safety?

The pics of real King's 201-A I see look VERY different than KC's ambi on the right side lever.

I can't comment on its correctness in how it looks. But functionally it is a quality piece. Perfect on the tolerances. The sleeve that the two pin halves fits into really does a fantastic job at keeping both sides moving in tandem. I've only fit one other ambi safety before and it was of a different manufacture so it didn't have a sleeve and the two halves weren't perfect in moving together when engaging/disengaging.

FWIW, I think he's just reselling EGW's King's Style thumb safety. https://www.egwguns.com/1911-parts/frame-parts/?frame_components=923 I used their "HD 1911 Ambi Thumb Safety Slim Paddles Stainless Steel" on rebuilding my latest Combat Elite, and I agree with your assessment about it's quality and functionality over other brands.

Agree that it is EGW's. I was doing a stainless build along with my MEUSOC type build and didn't like the stainless ambi I originally bought as much as the KC style. So I went hunting and discovered the patented sleeve design in stainless on EGW's site. Mo better.

I could only speculate on that one. But again it is a quality part. I was able to install it and I'm a hack. It was only my 2nd BTGS fitting.

One thing of note; if you go with his front sight it must be soldered in place. The tenon isn't long enough for staking. And soldering is the correct way for a MEUSOC. KC is very good to communicate with via email. He is/was amenable to just installing the front sight.

I couldn’t help myself but to stick the slide on this. Can’t wait to finish it.

Side note I was looking for the barrel and found the PN from the TM, but can’t find that PN on bar sto’s site. Is it a different PN now?

From KC's website under Generation/Variant 1............."A Bar-Sto “semi-fit” barrel and bushing were used exclusively at this time."  No idea about part number but I just ordered a semi-fit from BarSto the other day.  3-4 month wait.

I've wondered the same thing.

It also confuses me that they have Springfield Armory and Colt style barrels listed as options.

Will a standard Government style 1911 barrel not be compatible with the Springfield slide I will be using??

The Springfield-compatible barrel you linked is a ramped barrel, whereas the Colt-compatible is not. Your frame is going to be cut to accommodate the ramped barrel so the non-ramped barrel won't work. Disregard, I didn't see the ramped/non-ramped option list.

Please pardon the necropost… this goes all the way back to 2014

But, this image was originally posted to note the use of an SA slide with vertical cocking serrations. However, I believe I am also seeing a C&S style hammer, rather than the traditional commander “ring” hammer usually seen on early variant MEUSOC pistols (note the early sites).

Curious folks’ thoughts on this…
Am I seeing things that aren’t there?
Could it have been built up hat way, or a repair?

It doesn’t look to me like the grip safety has “cupped” any part of the hammer ring… so perhaps that is the older Wilson/Clark style safety?

Thanks!

Yep, that style of slide definitely seems to be rare.  There have been some photos of the older style guns with newer style hammers and even thumb safeties.

MEUSOC pistols were no different than other small arms in US military, they got rebuilt numerous times before deemed unserviceable. When the pistols went in for rebuilt, available parts in the logistic system were used. Armorers make no distinction of new style / old style that is only meaningful to us civilian collectors.

If you flip to the earlier pages of this threads, you will see Wilson or Nowlin barrels were also used. Even the stop-gap SAI Professional Model/Custom carry were later flow through the rotation and rebuilt with different configuration (front cocking serrations/ removal of magwell etc). Also when King's 201A went out of production, Ed Brown ambi's were used in old style MEUSOC pistols when they need to replace worn out safeties. SAI Operator slides were used at late stage of the MEUSOC pistol saga. Here you go, there were lots of things happened during the pistols service life.

Help me build out my slide.

I've been slowly gathering parts to eventually send out for build.  A while back I picked up an older, stripped, Springfield slide.  What quality components should I pick up?  I read that the Springfield firing pin is a different size compared to a Colt.  Is this true and I need to find a SA specific firing pin?  What about the firing pin stop and extractor?  I've got a Bar Sto barrel on order.  Thoughts....

Thanks.

Funny, I was just looking at firing pins for SAs.  I believe the older slides with the cannons behind the ejection port use a standard GI firing pin. You could just try a standard pin and see if it fits.  This one should work on the newer (post 2000?) slides that uses the small titanium pin.

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1005665865?pid=321415#reviews

Alternatively, if you are sending the slide out for any kind of work some smiths can just ream out the firing pin hole to accept a standard GI pin.

I like EGW stops and Wilson extractors, but you might want to ask your smith what they like to use.

$100 for the rear and front sight install (silver soldered in place)
$150 repairkng frame after the silver soldering

$50 for rear

These were 2017 prices (he hasn't raised the cost of parts since then) so I'm not sure if they're still accurate.

How much are they asking?
Link Posted: 2/10/2023 7:39:46 PM EDT
[Last Edit: mlin] [#40]
$3,800. It's been there for a few months. Even though it is technically a custom pistol and built by former 2112 working at C&H Precision, it would be hard to swallow by most not familiar with what it is about. Also the first impression I got was the gun was either never lubed (unlikely) or the owner had been ignore it for quite some time. No a good presentation for the asking price.

KC's charge $3,500 to build on your own frame. So the asking price is not high if you factor in the USGI frame the seller had on the build looks in excellent shape.

Regarding the KC King’s safety, it is aesthetically a bit different but functionally superior. The right side is designed in a way where it is a mirror image of the left. The king’s right side looks different from the left. The KC paddles are also a bit thicker.

EGW did start selling a king’s repro, but that was relatively more recent. I do suspect they make the part for him, and decided to make it available on their own site.

If the aesthetic bothers you, you can always sculpt the right side of the safety to look like a king’s. I did it and it turned out pretty ok.
