Just got an email from S&W about their new offering.  Looks like a factory ported core?

That WILL be my next gun.  Bout fucking time they caught up to the G34 and XDM.

Neither of those are ported. The 5" Pro is the M&P equivalent of the G34 and XDM.

My bad, then are the slide cut outs on the Glock and Springfield only to save weight?  Guess this won't fly as a SSP/Production gun!

Yes, the slide cutouts are to offset the extra weight of the longer slides so that the same recoil assemblies can be used. S&W did the same thing with their 5" M&Ps by making the longer slides thinner than the 4.25" versions.

Guess it won't be my next gun since it's only good for Open class.

I wish they would port the 34, are these out yet?

I'm pretty sure you could toss a non ported barrel in the gun and run limited. I've heard that the suppressor sights aren't the best for just running iron sights though.

I would have been much more impressed with a G19 sized M&P.

I got to play with one at my local shop, I have owned multiple MPs, best trigger by far on an out of box MP, just picked a VP9..5 inch ported has my name on it.

It's serves no practical purpose in my collection but it's a damn fine handling and looking shooter.
